Official Statement

... Deathrow, a brutal fighting sport where the fastest, toughest players are victorious and the slow and weak are defeated. It combines the lightning-fast gameplay of third-person action games, adrenaline rush of fighting games and the cooperative team play and gritty roughness of rugby, offering a unique gameplay experience. The object of the game is to win matches however you can, either by scoring as many points as possible before time runs out, or by severely injuring your opponents and removing them from the field of combat.

General Information
Entering into the multi-player fray is a recent Xbox unknown, SouthEnd Interactive. The multi-player focused genre is filled with successful titles, such as Fuzion Frenzy and Hunter: The Reckoning, however, Deathrow helps to make a name for itself with gorgeous visuals, a rougher style, and team-based hand-to-hand combat that has an emphasis on brute force, instead of outlandish weapons. With over 130 different characters – all broken down into 17 teams, with their own special abilities and style – there will be various grapples, punches, and kicks to ensure that your team comes out on top. Playing for cash certainly doesn’t hurt either. Progressing up the ranks will mean that the chosen character will have their statistics enhanced with each victory and the extra cash will help lure star players to your team, and even to train your existing squad even harder.

Taking a more adult approach, Deathrow will feature vulgar language and violent combat. What helps to separate SouthEnd’s offerings from the other combat-intensive titles will be the detailed facial animations that will really show when a player is angry, or in excruciating pain. With up to 8 players, there should be plenty of cursing outside the game as well as gamers take their team through 15 varying stages that feature their own gameplay elements and design style. Team management will ensure that your team consists only of winners; whether they are sportsman by scoring the most points or grunts as they use brute force to wipe out the opposing team, either approach is acceptable and can be tailored to whoever is in control.

Set for an October release, Deathrow looks to be one of the more promising Xbox titles coming down the pipe. Whether it is the team-based play, the multi-player experience, or the sleek, futuristic characters pummeling each other into submission, there’s definitely something to watch out for from SouthEnd’s stable. There will also be little Xbox perks as well; gamers will be able to import their own music as well as enjoy enhanced visuals that take advantage of the power that MS’ 400 lb. gorilla has to offer. All I know is that come October, I’ll be looking to bust some heads..and arms..and legs..and groins..
