Presenting the next step in tactical military gaming, Conflict: Desert Storm
is based on the events of the 1991 Gulf War as players control an elite U.S. Delta
Force or British Special Air Service (SAS) unit that has been ordered behind enemy
lines. Gamers fight through 15 intense missions -- utilizing advanced training
and stealth techniques and a vast array of weaponry -- in order to destroy key
Iraqi targets and ultimately put an end to Saddam's reign of terror.
"With Conflict: Desert Storm, gamers will experience the awesome power of
a squad of elite commandos as they easily control each member of their four-man
team in the battle against Saddam," said Jamie Leece, President of Gotham
games. "The game immerses players in an ultra-realistic warfare environment,
placing them in situations where they must employ true military tactics in order
to complete the missions."
Conflict:
Desert Storm, based on the events of the 1991 Gulf War, allows you to lead a four-man
squad of troops from one of the best known and most feared special operations
forces in the world -- the U.S. Delta Force or the elite British SAS. Covert missions
take you through hostile environments where only your expertise in stealth, tactics
and firepower will ensure the success and safety of your men. Your missions are
as unpredictable as they are dangerous: from vital scud-hunting missions deep
within enemy territory to highly secretive rescue and assassination operations
in Baghdad itself. As the first line of defense, your objective is clear: Protect
Freedom. General Information
Coming for the PlayStation 2, PC, and Xbox this fall, Conflict: Desert Storm
looks to take gamers back to when MC Hammer wasn't broke; the concept of a white
rapper was taking shape as a hilarious novelty; and Nintendo and Sega were battling
it out for 16-bit supremacy. Yes, I'm talking about the early 90's. For some of
us, it feels like yesterday, but for others, it was ages ago and the entire Gulf
War just doesn't seem interesting to them. Helping
to remedy that, Pivotal Games and SCI are giving gamers up to 4 soldiers to command
of both U.S. and British forces as they rolled over Saddam's ill-equipped army.
With 15 objective-based missions, hard-nosed A.I. will be going for the jugular
at every turn and the expansive, realistic environments will feature heat haze,
smoke, and changing shadows as the days will turn into nights. Taking
out the enemies, whether indoor or outdoor, will be made easier with Gulf War-era
vehicles like humvees and tanks; veteran troops will also increase the chance
of survival as your troops will gain experience and improve their abilities as
missions are completed. Keeping everything in line will Cameron Space, a former
British SAS officer with Gulf War experience, but it should be noted, that 100%
authenticity isn't being strived for as their will be some embellishments to make
it more playable. Wrapping this patriotic
package up will is thumping combat sounds and graphics tailored to all the systems
it'll be released on. With SOCOM offering a more recent and intimate experience,
it's nice to see that Conflict: DS will be going a more expanded route
with huge environments and missions going over the course of an entire war. Regardless
of the system, it seems as though a formula is here that could present gamers
with a title worthy of representing the spanking of Saddam - we can't wait to
try it! [
