Microsoft has released the first of three videos in a new series for Rise of the Tomb Raider. Titled Woman Vs. Wild, each entry will focus on the various gameplay mechanics that players will utilize to see Lara through her adventure against man, beast, and nature. The first installment is Harsh Environments, which highlights some of Lara’s new survival skills.

Guitar Hero Live launches for iOS devices and console

Guitar Hero returns from its five-year hiatus today with Guitar Hero Live. Developed by FreeStyleGames, the studio behind the DJ Hero series, Guitar Hero Live features a host of new modes and options. The most immediate difference from its predecessors is found in the guitar controller, which has been updated to support six buttons in two three-button rows. On the software side, GH Live has been added, offering a first-person view in front of a real crowd that reacts based on player performance, and GHTV, described as “the world’s first playable music video network.” GHTV plays 24 hours a day and will be updated weekly with new songs, allowing players the chance to play along with whatever they see or request via on demand. The channel will also offer Premium Shows for premium playable content, such as live concert footage and new music videos.

The latest chapter introduces four new characters, played by Jeff Goldblum, Heather Graham, Neal McDonough, and Ron Perlman. The squad must battle their way through an expansive noir-styled world brimming with undead to uncover the truth behind a mysterious stranger who is offering them redemption.

New Specialist, map revealed in live-stream video of Black Ops III

The inaugural stream revealed the ninth Specialist, Firebreak, and a new multiplayer map, Redwood. It’s time to roll out! Transformers: Devastation out for console, PC

Activision has released PlatinumGames’ Transformers: Devastation for console and PC. The third-person brawler features a single-player campaign that pits five playable Autobots (Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Wheeljack, and Grimlock) against an army of Decepticons. In addition to the Andy Schmidt-penned story, which expands the current Combiner Wars arc, there are also 50 challenge missions. Characters gain new abilities and talents as players progress, as well as access to more than 150 upgradeable weapons.

Activision to boost eSports presence with Call of Duty World League

Activision has created a global eSports league for Call of Duty, the aptly named Call of Duty World League. The program is being set up to encourage casual fans to try their hand at competitive play and “provide a deeper level of engagement” for current professionals. The league will consist of two divisions, The Pro Division and The Challenge Division, with the latter providing an avenue for amateurs to win a spot at the Call of Duty Championship. Activision is ponying up $3 million in prizes and has set up a team to help facilitate the league leading up to and after its launch alongside Black Ops III. Full details can be found below.

The video, titled Descent Into Legend, features footage of Lara navigating puzzles and environmental hazards as she searches for the Lost City of Kitezh. Quite a bit is packed into the two-minute runtime, including a daring escape and heavy use of a retractable zip line.

Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition, DLC now available

Destiny: The Taken King is now available online and in stores. The expansion introduces a new enemy, King Oryx, who has unleashed his soldiers in revenge for the death of his son Crota. In addition to the quest to defeat Oryx, The Taken King adds three new Guardian subclasses, Strikes, and Crucible maps, along with the new King’s Fall Raid and new armor and weapons. King’s Fall will go live at noon (CST) on Friday, September 18. New players can opt to grab Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition, which also includes the first two expansions, The Dark Below and House of Wolves, for $59.99. For current players, The Taken Ling can be purchased by itself for $39.99. A one-time character boost, Spark of Light, will be included with both in order to get players up to level 25 so that they can take part in the new content.
