Activision to boost eSports presence with Call of Duty World League

Activision has created a global eSports league for Call of Duty, the aptly named Call of Duty World League. The program is being set up to encourage casual fans to try their hand at competitive play and “provide a deeper level of engagement” for current professionals. The league will consist of two divisions, The Pro Division and The Challenge Division, with the latter providing an avenue for amateurs to win a spot at the Call of Duty Championship. Activision is ponying up $3 million in prizes and has set up a team to help facilitate the league leading up to and after its launch alongside Black Ops III. Full details can be found below.

New gameplay footage released from Rise of the Tomb Raider

The video, titled Descent Into Legend, features footage of Lara navigating puzzles and environmental hazards as she searches for the Lost City of Kitezh. Quite a bit is packed into the two-minute runtime, including a daring escape and heavy use of a retractable zip line.

Destiny: The Taken King is now available online and in stores. The expansion introduces a new enemy, King Oryx, who has unleashed his soldiers in revenge for the death of his son Crota. In addition to the quest to defeat Oryx, The Taken King adds three new Guardian subclasses, Strikes, and Crucible maps, along with the new King’s Fall Raid and new armor and weapons. King’s Fall will go live at noon (CST) on Friday, September 18. New players can opt to grab Destiny: The Taken King Legendary Edition, which also includes the first two expansions, The Dark Below and House of Wolves, for $59.99. For current players, The Taken Ling can be purchased by itself for $39.99. A one-time character boost, Spark of Light, will be included with both in order to get players up to level 25 so that they can take part in the new content.

QuakeCon will be returning to the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas. Bethesda has announced that the four-day event will take place Thursday, August 4 through Sunday, August 7, 2016. Activision has released a new character trailer, an interview with Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen, and pre-order bonus details for Transformers: Devastation. The PlatinumGames-developed title will come with free downloadable content for all those who pre-order, a character skin pack and a weapon pack. The skin pack will come with three alternate costumes (Nemesis Prime, Red Alert, and Goldfire), while the weapon pack will bundle together the Dark Star Saber, the Photon Disruptor, and the twin Gold Hunter blaster pistols. RE0, RE1 getting physical release in Resident Evil Origins Collection

Resident Evil Origins Collection will bring the recently released Resident Evil HD and an upgraded Resident Evil 0 to store shelves next year. Scheduled to launch on January 19, the $39.99 set will be available for PS4 and Xbox One, while Resident Evil 0 will be sold separately digitally around the same time for $19.99 for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Capcom also revealed Wesker Mode for Resident Evil 0, which will feature fellow S.T.A.R.S. member Rebecca Chambers, with Wesker taking on the role of Bill Coen with a new look and new abilities. Twenty screenshots as well as two trailers have also gone live, one introducing the package and the other detailing Wesker Mode.

Konami releases Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain launch trailer

A new Hideo Kojima-created launch trailer has gone live for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The video runs a little over five minutes and features cutescene clips as well as gameplay footage, along with sections from earlier titles, going back to the first Metal Gear Solid. A few additional details were also released about the Companion App. The PS4 and Xbox One download will connect with the game to act as a second screen to display a separate map as well as allow access to any map at any time, and it will play all collected records and music. The app will be available on September 1.
