Flashback launches for 360, includes new and original versions

Flashback, an updated HD version of the 1992 side-scrolling action-adventure title, is now available for 360. PC and PS3 gamers will be able to play it later this fall, but as of today, 360 owners can download the revamped release for 800 MS Points as part of XBLA’s Summer of Arcade. Many members of the original team, now with VectorCell, the studio behind the update, had a hand in updating the cinematic sci-fi adventure. As a bonus, the original game is being bundled with the re-imagined version. Be prepared for some brutal times as Conrad battles alien Morphs to save humanity.

Soulcalibur II HD Online announced for 360 and PS3, screens released

Soulcalibur II will soon be a decade old, and Namco Bandai has announced that they will celebrating with a new, updated version: Soulcalibur II HD Online. The download-only release will be available for 360 and PS3, and feature enhanced visuals, netcode overseen by the Project Soul team, and new online modes. The original mode set will also return: Arcade, Survival, Vs Battle, Time Attack, Survival, Team Battle, Practice, and Weapon Master. No word on if any of the system-specific characters from the original home releases will be returning (fingers crossed for Link!).

New screenshots released from vaudevillian platformer Contrast

Compulsion Games has revealed more of their upcoming platform-puzzler Contrast. Set to launch later this year for 360, PC, and PS3, Contrast has players take control of Dawn, an imaginary friend of Didi, a rambunctious and heartbroken nine-year-old, in a world inspired by vaudeville and noire. The title was recently shown at SCEA’s and Focus Home Interactive’s booths at E3, and a few shots from the demo have been released.

The quarter-destroying duo of Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and Shadow over Mystara have been brought back from the past with the release of Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara today for PC and PS3 and tomorrow for 360. The Iron Galaxy-developed double pack features both beat ‘em ups and a host of extras, including unlockable concept art, new House Rules customization options, and four-player local and online multiplayer support with drop-in/drop-out play. Players will select one classic D&D class, from the deadly warrior to the powerful mage, and go on an adventure that features branching paths, a lite RPG-style leveling system, and a new dynamic Challenge system.

R.I.P.D.: The Game to bring supernatural justice to 360, PC, PS3

Atlus and developer Old School Games are prepping a release for R.I.P.D.: The Game, a tie-in to the upcoming film from Universal, R.I.P.D. (Rest in Peace Department). The supernatural action-adventure title will be a download-only release for 360, PC, and PS3. Players, solo or with a friend via co-op, will take on the role of two lawmen, played by Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds in the film, who must protect the living from violent souls in the otherworld. The game will include an in-game betting system (e.g., who can live the longest, who captures the most enemies) as well as weapons, enemies, and locales from the film.

CastleStorm to storm the walls of Live Arcade on May 29

Zen Studios has announced that their upcoming physics-based tower-defense title CastleStorm will launch on May 29 on Live Arcade. The Pinball FX2 developer stated that the inspiration behind the design, which also includes offensive ground-based attacks, was their childhood memories of building and destroying Lego castles. To that end, a built-in castle editor will allow players to test their strongholds off and online. In addition to a 12-level, story-drive campaign, the game will also feature online multiplayer and co-op play.

Spiders’ Jehanne Rousseau details upcoming RPG Mars War Logs

Spiders has released a new video explaining the ins and outs of their upcoming sci-fi-themed role-playing game Mars War Logs. The studio has been releasing media at a trickle, and save for a revamped website, has been pretty low key as to what all players can expect when the game launches this summer. The nearly three-minute video, narrated by Spiders CEO Jehanne Rousseau, covers a little bit of everything, including the game’s origins, story, mechanics, and emphasis on consequences.
