Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth hitting PS4, PS Vita this September

Utawarerumono: Mask Of Deception’s sequel, Mask of Truth, is slated to be released on September 5. Set shortly after the events in Mask of Deception, the story follows returning characters who must create an alliance between fractious kingdoms in order to stave off the armies of the Yamato Empire. As with its predecessor, the story will play out with visual-novel-style cutscenes while combat will retain the turn- and elemental-based system. It will also feature the original Japanese audio throughout its estimated 80-plus-hour-long campaign.

First-run copy of Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception gets unboxed

Atlus is set to release their visual-novel-styled strategy role-playing game Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception next week, but first they want to show off the goods. Their latest unboxing video highlights the launch edition, which, as has become common with their releases, comes with several extras. In addition to the game, early buyers will also receive a 50-page art book with character and faction info along with a slipcase for the bundle.

Degica to bring visual novel Symphonic Rain to PC this June

An updated version of the rhythm visual novel Symphonic Rain is set to hit PC this June. For its English debut, original character artist Shiro returned to update all 100-plus pictures. As Chris Vertin, players are a student at the Piova Communal School of Music, and cause a stir when they play a magical instrument in harmony with a fairy’s singing. The game, set in a city that never stops raining, features a story written by Maoto Nishikawa, music by Ritsuko Okazaki, and multiple endings that are determined by the player’s choices as well as their performance during recitals.

Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma headed to PS4 this fall

PS4 owners recently got the backstory of the Zero Escape series with The Nonary Games bundle, and now, Aksys is looking to round out the trilogy for them. A graphically updated re-release of Spike Chunsoft’s visual novel Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma is scheduled to make its way digitally and physically to PS4 this fall. The follow-up to Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Virtue’s Last Reward continues the formula of narrative-driven puzzle solving, as players attempt to work out brain teasers and plot twists alike.

Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception’s healer, Nekone, in the spotlight

Utawarerumono’s mercenary was highlighted recently, and now it’s his sister’s turn, the child prodigy Nekone. She looks up to Ukon, while finding her brother’s nonchalant attitude annoying. Thanks to her time studying in the Imperial Capital, she is capable of serving the party both as a healer and a strategist. See her in action below.

Aksys Games to release visual novel Collar X Malice for PS Vita

Aksys Games has announced that they will be releasing Idea Factory’s Collar X Malice. Visual novel fans will get a chance to grab it later this summer digitally and physically for PS Vita. As a young police officer, players must battle an organization that is determined to cause chaos in the city of Shinjuku. The game begins after the mysterious group’s first strike against the officer, attacking him and attaching a poisonous collar. Five strangers appear to lend a hand, but who he trusts will be up to the player. A branching narrative shifts the story as they make their choices, leading to one of multiple endings.

NIS releases patch for PS4 version of The Silver Case

A patch for The Silver Case has gone live on PSN that addresses an issue with two post-game scenarios. After installing the patch, players will be able to access Yami and White Out Prologue once they complete the game. Another problem with cinematics displaying black or fuzzy screens is being investigated, but the studio suggests a workaround that requires setting the system’s language to English or English UK. All applications in use must be closed before changing the language. More info on a fix should be coming along in the near future.

NIS releases visual-novel-style adventure The Silver Case for PS4

Suda51’s visual novel The Silver Case returns today, courtesy of NIS. The HD remake updates the crime thriller with enhanced visuals and extra content. Initially released in 1999, the game tasks players with tracking down a killer that is behind a series of strange murders. Finding them will involve using point-and-click adventure-style mechanics.

After last week’s character trailer detailing Mask of Deception’s protagonist Haku, a new video has gone live highlighting his friend, Kuon. She not only rescues the amnesiac but also becomes his guardian, even naming him. Described as a “polar opposite of Haku,” she’s also an apothecary, healer, and a bit of a brawler.
