Developer- and Publisher-specific Articles: VanillaWare
Gwendolyn, Oswald, Mercedes, Velvet, and Cornelius have returned after a decade away with the release of Odin Sphere Leifthrasir. The enhanced remake of Vanillaware’s PS2 action role-playing game takes players back to the war-torn lands of Erion, as kingdoms battle …
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir’s character reveals end today with a new trailer and some screenshots for the chain-wielding forest witch Velvet. She is connected with royalty umpteen different ways as the granddaughter of King Valentine, princess of the now-destroyed Valentine Kingdom, older half-sister of Gwendolyn, and twin sister of the Demon Lord Odin’s daughter Ingway. Okay, four or so different ways. Velvet is on a mission to stop the end of the world, but after escaping the destruction of Valentine, finds herself caught in the middle of a war between the kingdoms of Erion. She is an agile fighter and armed with the Graveryl, a red Psypher chain, with which she can fling enemies backwards and shoot out flames. Check her out below.
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir’s fourth character has been revealed: Oswald. The red-eyed Shadow Knight is described as “the most powerful soldier in the Ringford army” and an unhinged sort that’s prone to violence. Initially on the side of the usurper Melvin, Oswald switches his allegiance to the ruler of Netherworld, Queen Odette, in hopes of attaining a cure for a strange illness. He has access to a cursed Psypher sword, Belderiver, and can call on Rising Void to create a flame that pulls in enemies. Check him out below in a new trailer and set of screenshots.
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir’s Mercedes is showcased in a new trailer and batch of screenshots. The Fairy Queen of Ringford, Mercedes is on a quest to avenge the death of her mother at the hands of Demon Lord Odin. Her position is fragile, however, as an ambitious cousin is also eying her throne. Fortunately, despite being a bit clumsy, she is an agile fighter who has allies to call upon during combat and is armed with Tasla, her mother’s Psypher crossbow.
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir’s character roster is being given its time in the spotlight with a new look at the heir of Titania, Cornelius. Unfortunately for Cornelius, a curse has turned him into a Pooka in the form of a hare. His diminutive size doesn’t stop him from jumping into combat, though, as his increased agility allows him to quickly slice through enemies, attack off of walls, and unleash bolts of electricity with the Lightning Saber. Check him out in action below.
Odin Sphere Leifthrasir’s updated crafting and cooking mechanics are highlighted in a new trailer and batch of screenshots. Potion-creation has now been expanded so that, in addition to mixing materials and items according to recipes, stocked potions can also be added to the mix. Recipes aren’t required, either, as players will be able to randomly mix items to find a match. Additional combinations are being added, too, and food will be able to be upgraded by mixing them with potions. New rest areas will also allow players to heal and buff their characters with meals cooked by Maury’s Touring Restaurant.
The first in a new series of cast trailers has gone live for Odin Sphere Leifthrasir. The debut features the Valkyrie princess of Ragnanival, and daughter of Demon Lord Odin, Gwendolyn. Gwendolyn uses her Valkyrie training and deceased sister’s Psypher Spear to attack enemies head-on as well as from above. Her powers, augmented by the addition of a skill tree, include the ability to tossing a wave of icicles and summon a swarm of spears. Check out the trailer, along with a handful of new screenshots, below.
Atlus has released a new trailer and screenshots showcasing Odin Sphere Leifthrasir’s combat and skill systems. Fans of the original will want to take note because the upcoming version will feature nearly 200 new abilities and skills. Drawing on their experience from Dragon’s Crown, the studio has expanded each character’s skillset while also streamlining the leveling system, by having characters and Psyphers level together, and increasing the fluidity of the combo system. For those who prefer the original setup, Classic Mode is being included that retains the visual upgrades but reverts back to the old mechanics.
