Assassin’s Creed officially enters the next generation today with the release of Black Flag for PS4. The latest entry in the series, currently available for 360, PC, PS3, and Wii U, transports gamers to the Golden Age of Pirates. As Edward Kenway, former Royal Navy privateer turned pirate, players will chase down Templars throughout the West Indies, raid ports, hijack ships, and meet other famous pirates, such as Blackbeard and Charles Vane. The PS4 version also supports Remote Play with PS Vita, allowing gamers to continue playing on the go using a local network via WiFi.

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag goes goooooooooooold for PC

The PC version of Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag has gone gold, according to Ubisoft. Gamers will have the chance to buy it in one of three versions: Standard, Deluxe Edition (bonus locations, items, and adventure featuring Liberation’s Aveline), or Uplay Deluxe Edition (all of the Deluxe Edition’s content as well as the Pride of the West Indies pack). The standard and deluxe editions will be available in stores and online, while the Uplay release is online only as it is exclusive to Ubisoft’s digital outlet. It was also noted that Nvidia card users will also have access to special features, such as God Rays, percentage-closer soft shadows, and temporal anti-aliasing. Several GeForce cards (list) have been bundled with digital copies of both Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Black Flag.

Privateer turned pirate Edward Kenway is hitting the high seas today with the release of Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. Set in the early years of the 18th century, Kenway must battle the Templars throughout the West Indies as he takes ports, commandeers ships, and encounters other famous pirates of the age, such as Blackbeard and Charles Vane. As with its predecessors, combat will once again be a mixture of stealth and brute force, both of the armed and unarmed variety. And when he’s not fighting, Kenway will be exploring the more than 50 navigable locations. Oh, and whaling. He’ll also definitely be doing some whaling.

Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD heading to consoles, PC this January

It looks as if Aveline will have a busy new year. Ubisoft has announced that the console and PC version of Assassin’s Creed Liberation will be released on January 14 for PS3 and on January 15 for 360 and PC. The download-only release will feature assassin Aveline’s original adventure, set prior to the American Revolution, which found her using machetes, whips, and poison darts to take down her prey throughout New Orleans and even Mayan ruins. This new version will feature upgraded visuals—a comparison below shows a scene from it next to the same from the PS Vita original—and be released at $19.99. A discount of $5 was also announced for owners of Black Flag’s Season Pass.

Flashback returns in high defintion for PC and PS3

The HD version of Flashback that was released last August for 360 is now available for PC and PS3. The updated re-release of the 1992 side-scrolling action-adventure title was developed by VectorCell, a studio which happens to also include several members of the original development team. As a bonus, the original Flashback is included as an extra, allowing players to experience Conrad’s battle against the deadly Morphs then and now. The bundle is available for $9.99.

It’s been a rocky road for the boys of South Park, with The Stick of Truth publisher THQ shutting down earlier this year, but new owner Ubisoft has sent word that all’s well in Colorado and that Obsidian’s upcoming RPG will be available on December 10. In addition to the release date, Ubisoft also revealed details about a pre-order bonus and a special premium version, the Grand Wizard Edition. Details are available below.

A new mission and gear pack has been released for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Backlist. Homeland, available today for 360, PC, PS3, and Wii U, adds two new co-op missions and a host of gear. The missions, one story related and the other standalone, will have players infiltrating a billionaire’s yacht and battling a terrorist cell in the Middle East alone or with a friend. The new gear includes new weapons, accessories, skins, and outfits: a crossbow with sleeping gas bolts, an Upper Echelon Suit offering better protection and stealth capabilities, a 4E Eclipse Suit that also adds more protection but also has more slots to equip additional items, three new lights (amber, gold, and white) for Sam’s goggles, and exclusive skins for Mercs and Spies.

The armless, legless platforming wonder returns today with the launch of Rayman Legends for 360, PC, PS3, PS Vita, and Wii U. The follow-up to Origins takes place 100 years later, with Rayman and his friends waking up from their slumber to find that the Glade of Dreams has been invaded by nightmares. His latest adventure features not only traditional platforming but also new rhythm-based stages. Another new feature, exclusive to the Wii U version, is support for a fifth player, who can use the GamePad controller to take control of Murfy.

Flashback launches for 360, includes new and original versions

Flashback, an updated HD version of the 1992 side-scrolling action-adventure title, is now available for 360. PC and PS3 gamers will be able to play it later this fall, but as of today, 360 owners can download the revamped release for 800 MS Points as part of XBLA’s Summer of Arcade. Many members of the original team, now with VectorCell, the studio behind the update, had a hand in updating the cinematic sci-fi adventure. As a bonus, the original game is being bundled with the re-imagined version. Be prepared for some brutal times as Conrad battles alien Morphs to save humanity.

Might & Magic X Legacy now on Steam as Early Access title

Might & Magic X Legacy has become the latest addition to Steam Early Access. Ubisoft has announced that gamers who pre-order the Deluxe Edition, available online through Steam and uPlay, can now play the entire first act of Legacy. By being an Early Access title, players can try the game out and give developer Limbic feedback as they continue to work on the remaining acts.
