Age of Wonders III: Eternal Lords, V1.5 update now available

Age of Wonders III is bulking up today with the release of the free V1.5 update as well as its second expansion pack, Eternal Lords. The latest add-on includes a new story that follows the struggles of Arvik, heir to the Kingdom of Frostling, who turns to necromancy to reclaim his power. He must choose to either fight alongside his fellow Frostlings or devote himself entirely to necromancy. The pack also adds a new class (Necromancers), two races (Frostlings and Tigran), three leader specializations, diplomacy options, cosmic events, and the Race Governance mechanic.

Age of Wonders III: Eternal Lords arriving April, plus Linux, Mac ports

Triumph will be releasing a new download pack for Age of Wonders III, Eternal Lords, on April 14. The second add-on will feature a new story, a new class, new races, and more. The new story centers on a battle between Arvik, heir to the Kingdom of Frostling, who turns to necromancy to reclaim his power. To sit on the throne, he’ll have to decide whether to fight alongside his fellow Frostlings or fully embrace necromancy. Joining the classes are the monster-summoning Necromancers, who can also convert towns to undead cities. Two new humanoid races also join the ranks, the seafaring Frostlings along with a new feline humanoid race, the fast, desert-dwelling Tigran.

Age of Wonders III gets new units, modes, more with Golden Realms

Triumph Studios has released the first expansion for Age of Wonders III, Golden Realms. The add-on includes a little of everything. In addition to the three-scenario campaign Golden Realms, the pack adds the Halfling race, wild magic, new map locations, guerrilla warfare skills, 20-plus units, 50 artifacts, and two scenarios. Additional features added to the regular maps and randomly generated maps include empire quests, mystical city upgrades, defensive city upgrades, and a new ‘King of the Hill’-type victory condition.

Age of Wonders III version 1.09 patch released, detailed

Age of Wonders III received its first patch today. Triumph Studios noted that their goal with the update was to improve performance, fix hardware-specific issues, address problems with registration, adjust balance, and improve the AI. The full change log can be found below, but some of the highlights include the ability to adjust difficulty when restarting on the campaign map, lowered difficulty on squire, guest profile settings are now saved, and tactical AI is less likely to sally when defending. Quick saves and native high-resolution support were also added.

Age of Wonders III sets out on campaign, now on GOG and Steam

The Age of Wonders series has been dormant for over a decade, but it returns today with the release of Age of Wonders 3 on GOG and Steam. The Triumph Studios-developed turn-based strategy title features online play with versus modes and scenarios, two playable factions, new leader classes (e.g., warlord, rogue, theocrat), a new tactical combat system, and an increased focus on unit specialization. Leaders will have to undertake quests, set up economies, negotiate with neighboring factions, and of course, crush enemy armies.

Age of Wonders III to be released next month, pre-order bonus live

A decade-plus after the last Age of Wonders, Triumph Studios has sent word that the third entry in the series will be launching next month, on March 31. Fans of the series can look forward to the same mix of empire building, role playing, and tactical combat as its predecessors. The latest iteration features six leader classes and six main races (human, high-elf, dwarf, draconian, orc, and goblin), along with a world map up of fifty-plus location types, turn-based combat, sieges, a random map generator, and a story-driven campaign. Both versus and co-op multiplayer is also supported over set scenarios and maps created by the random map generator.
