War has erupted across the Mediterranean and Aegean in the new downloadable campaign for Total War: Rome II, Wrath of Sparta. In the $14.99 expansion, players will be able to lead Athens, Corinth, Sparta, or the Boeotian League during the nearly three-decade-long Peloponnesian War. Each faction has their own unique units, while a Hellenic focus influences a new technology tree with mathematics and philosophy as well as the various events, which center on the regions’ athletic competitions and festivals.

Total War: Rome II – Wrath of Sparta to add Peloponnesian War

The nearly three-decade-long Peloponnesian War is making its way into Total War: Rome II later this month in Wrath of Sparta. The downloadable campaign will go live on December 16 and cover the earliest period of any Total War title to date over a 78-region map that focuses on Greece, the Greek islands, and the Ionian coast. Players will have access to new tech trees, land- and sea-based units, wonders, and heroes as they wage war as Athens, Boeotian League, Corinth, or Sparta.

The Sassanids appear in new trailer for Total War: Attila

A new trailer for Total War: Attila highlights Rome’s formidable Eastern foe, the Sassanid Empire. New features were also revealed. To highlight the other dangers of the times, players will have to contend with mutinous generals who can convince worried characters to mutiny, triggering a civil war, and limited supplies. A new mechanic, decimation, will help to bring some relief as the harsh punishment temporarily stamps out resistance in the ranks.

Sega has detailed their release plans for Creative Assembly’s Total War: Attila. The upcoming Rome II sequel will be available in physical as well as digital formats on February 17. Pre-orders are also open today, and those who put their cash down now will receive the first download pack, The Viking Forefathers Culture Pack, for free. The pack will also be available separately at launch for $7.99 and add three playable factions: The Danes, The Geats, and The Jutes. It will also come bundled with a Special Edition, along with Attila The Hun Biography by Nic Fields and a reference guide poster. Total War: Rome II gets free faction, Black Sea Colonies Culture Pack

Creative Assembly has released a new update containing a new faction as well as new for-pay DLC for Total War: Rome II. The free faction is the state of Massilia, a city founded by Greek colonists on the northwest coast of Mediterranean that has since adopted Gallic culture and combat tactics. The rest of the update includes a host of unit balance tweaks. Additionally, a for-pay DLC pack, the Black Sea Colonies Culture Pack, adds three new factions for play in the Grand Campaign, custom battles, and multiplayer: Cimmeria, Colchis, and Pergamom. Each was founded by Greek colonists, so their units and buildings are a combination of Hellenistic and regional influences. A full breakdown is available below.

Sega releases ‘The White Horse’ trailer for Total War: Attila

A new trailer has launch for Total War: Attila. The follow-up to Rome II, scheduled to launch next year, is reminiscent of Barbarian Invasion for Rome, which caught up with Rome after the split of the empire and allowed players to take control of the slowly deteriorating West, robust East, and variety of barbarian factions. The latest video features some unit shots, a quick overview of the empire’s situation at the start of the game, and the emergence of Attila.

Creative Assembly brings Rome to the brink with Total War: Attila

Creative Assembly has revealed that they are flowing up the release of Total War: Rome II with Total War: Attila in 2015. As with the original Rome’s expansion Barbarian Invasion, Attila will move the timeline along to the beginning of the Dark Ages. Players will get the chance to lead a struggling empire against migrating barbarians fighting to settle on imperial lands while battling usurpers, staving off diseases, and attempting to maintain a treasury heavily depleted after the empire split between east and west. Attila will see the return of family trees and skill trees as well as new mechanics, such as settlement destruction, civilians present during town battles, and dynamic fire that can spread during city assaults. Unfortunately, a full list of playable factions was not released.

Total War: Rome II – Emperor Edition launching September 16

Sega has announced that the upcoming Emperor Edition of Total War: Rome II will launch on September 16 for both Mac and Windows PC. Marked as the definitive version of the game, Emperor Edition will include all updates, all free DLC, and the upcoming free Imperator Augustus Campaign Pack. The Augustus pack will overhaul the building chains, politics system, and add a new campaign centered on the Second Triumvirate War. Steam users can currently opt-in to the latest beta patch to experience most of the changes now, though the campaign won’t be available until final release.

Rome II – Emperor Edition, free Imperator Augustus pack announced

Sega will be releasing an all-in-one version of Total War: Rome II, the Emperor Edition. This version will include all of the patches and free DLC released to date, which have added several factions and units since launch, and a new Campaign Pack expansion titled Imperator Augustus. Current owners should be happy to hear that Imperator Augustus will be a free download for them, which will add a new campaign map based on the Second Triumvirate War. Players will be able to select between Lepidus, Marc Antony, and Octavian in the three-way struggle for the Republic. The pack will also offer “an improved politics system, overhauled building chains, rebalanced battles, and improved visuals in both campaign and battle.” Some of the changes include the ability to avoid civil wars, the rebellion of the player’s own general and units if civil war does break out, and a greater emphasis on managing gravitas.

Total War: Rome II gets one free, one for-pay character DLC pack

Creative Assembly has released two new character packs for Rome II. The first, August Warriors Update, is a free add-on that includes three female warrior units (the sword-and-shield infantry Hex-Bearers for the Suebi garrison, the mounted archer Amazonian Riders for Royal Scythia and as mercenaries for Sarmati and Ponto-Caspia , and the mounted archer Scythian Noblewomen for Royal Scythia), four units for the Suebi (the Horse Runners elite skirmishers, the Spear Wall spear-and-shield infantry, the Round Shield Swordsmen, and the Riders of the Hunt spear cavalry). The for-pay pack, Daughters of Mars, includes seven new units for Rome, Lusitani, Sparta, and Suebi, which can slo be recruited as mercenaries in certain provinces.
