Geralt is getting a reprieve before tackling his next challenge in The Witcher 3. Unfortunately, what’s good news for the monster hunter is bad news for fans of the series as that means that the third installment has been delayed. CD Projekt RED has released an open letter announcing that the release of Wild Hunt has been pushed back until next February. The letter, which also details the reasoning behind the delay, can be found below.

Warner Bros. to distribute The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in North America

CD Projekt RED is teaming up with Warner Bros. Interactive for the North American release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. CD Projekt plans to launch Wild Hunt in 2014 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and WB will be handling distribution and promotion. Both companies also worked together for the console version of 2012’s The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.

CD Projekt RED has released over a dozen new screenshots from their upcoming open-world, story-driven RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The first round of images are from an early build and feature the new sailing mechanic as well as one of the navigable islands, Skellige. Exactly where players can trek will depend on the decisions they make throughout Geralt’s storyline as well as in local plotlines and other side quests.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt announced for PlayStation 4

The recently announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released for PlayStation 4. Developer CD Projekt RED stated that the last of the series will feature a standalone story so that newcomers can dive in, while series veterans will be able to pick up right where Geralt left off. Wild Hunt marks the last of the series, or at least Geralt of Rivia’s story.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt announced, to be final Witcher title

Famed monster slayer Geralt of Rivia is returning for one final adventure. CD Projekt RED has not only announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but that it will also be the last in the series. In the release sent out, studio head Adam Badowski stated that Wild Hunt will offer a massive open world that will be 30 times larger than The Witcher 2′s, requiring horses and boats to fully explore, and populated with a wide variety of people that have their own customs and legends. All of this will be experienced as players make their way through a non-linear story and engage in a new combat system free of Quick Time Events.
