inXile has sweetened the pot for The Bard’s Tale IV’s Kickstarter campaign by tossing in a free game. Backers who put towards the game within the first 24 hours of the campaign’s launch will receive a free copy of Wasteland 2, The Witcher, or The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The freebie is part of the $20 and up reward tiers, and the game will be available once the campaign ends. Wasteland 2 will be delivered via Steam or GOG.com, while both Witchers will be delivered through GOG.com. The campaign is set to kick off on June 2 at 8 a.m. (CST).
Purveyor of yesteryear GOG.com has begun a new promo that offers gamers a chance to vote on which titles they want to save their cash on, the Battle of the Games. Two trios will be posted, and the set with the most votes will be discounted by 75% for 24 hours and the other by 60%. New games will be posted each day at 5:00 a.m. CST until April 21. To kick things off, The Witcher and The Witcher 2 are 80% off, Heroes of Might and Magic I, II, and III are each 75% off, and Blackguards Special Edition is 50% off.
CD Projekt RED has announced that REDkit, a set of tools designed for gamers to create their own adventures using the editor behind The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, has entered open beta. Available for free at the official site, the kit includes tools to alter terrain, add a dynamic day-and-night cycle, create branching story paths, customize NPCs, and more.
The recently announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be released for PlayStation 4. Developer CD Projekt RED stated that the last of the series will feature a standalone story so that newcomers can dive in, while series veterans will be able to pick up right where Geralt left off. Wild Hunt marks the last of the series, or at least Geralt of Rivia’s story.
Famed monster slayer Geralt of Rivia is returning for one final adventure. CD Projekt RED has not only announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but that it will also be the last in the series. In the release sent out, studio head Adam Badowski stated that Wild Hunt will offer a massive open world that will be 30 times larger than The Witcher 2’s, requiring horses and boats to fully explore, and populated with a wide variety of people that have their own customs and legends. All of this will be experienced as players make their way through a non-linear story and engage in a new combat system free of Quick Time Events.
Mac gamers now have access to an ever-growing library of new and old games today with the announcement that GOG.com now supports OS X. At the moment, 50 games, along with all of their supplemental goodies, are available for download, including Crusader: No Remorse, Syndicate, and Wing Commander 1 & 2. In addition, The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition was also released for Mac. To celebrate all of the OS X-ness, sales are now ongoing for old and new games alike: 50% off of The Witcher Enhanced Edition, Crusader: No Remorse, SimCity 2000, and more, and 25% off The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition.
CD Projekt Red has announced that their role-playing series The Witcher, comprised of The Witcher (Mac, PC) and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (360, PC), has sold over four million copies worldwide. The company can look for additional sales of The Witcher 2 in the near future with the release of the Mac version later this year.
