Bandai Namco has released a little eye candy for Tekken fans with the opening cinematic from Tekken 7. The video begins with an investigation into the feud between Heihachi and Kazuya, then slowly expands to reveal new characters, including Akuma, and their place in the ongoing battle between the two. Relive Tekken 1-3 with the 8-bit debut of video series Retro Recap

Namco is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Tekken franchise with a new history-of video series. This latest series is to get everyone up to speed for Tekken 7, given the numerous plot twists, but to keep things manageable, the videos are covering a few entries at a time. The debut covers Tekken 1-3. Given those are a bit older now, it’s done in a gussied-up 8-bit style.

Tekken 7 launching June 2, Digital Deluxe, Collector’s Edition detailed

Bandai Namco has announced that Tekken 7 will launch for console and PC on June 2. The home port will expand on the arcade version with additional characters, online tournament modes, and a story mode. A new trailer has been released to highlight the story mode, along some new screens showing off some of the cinematics as well as the bundled extras. In regards to extras, the game will be released in several versions, with a Collector’s Edition and a Deluxe Edition, and are detailed below along with the various pre-order bonuses. Lastly, PS4 players will receive some freebies, including a Jukebox Mode and legacy costumes from Tekken 2 and 4 for King, Jin, and Xiaoyu.

Tekken 7 gets Kuma and Panda, tournament mode for online versus

Tekken 7 has officially added two more to its roster, Kuma and Panda. The former is Heihachi’s pet and bodyguard, trained in Kuma Shinken, while the latter is Xiaoyu’s pet and protector. As it happens, she also practices Kuma Shinken. Check them out in action below. Additionally, Bandai Namco also announced that tournaments will be added to online multiplayer, with up to eight participants able to compete in single or double elimination bouts. Winners can also receive in-game items or fight money. Password support will be implemented for joining and spectating, too.

Lee Chaolan, along with Violet, join cast of Tekken 7

Tekken 7’s roster expanded today with news that Lee Chaolan is being added to the cast. Not just Lee, either, but also his alter ego Violet. Adopted by Heihachi and raised to be the rival of Kazuya, Lee went on to form a robotics company. As Heihachi and Kazuya continue their war, Lee waits for his moment to strike. Lee’s is just one of several plotlines that are set to play out during Tekken 7’s Story Mode.

Bob and Master Raven join the cast of Tekken 7 with screens, trailers

Tekken series director Katsuhiro Harada was on-hand at this year’s Evo to reveal two more characters from Tekken 7’s roster: Bob and Master Raven. Bob, a practitioner of Freestyle Karate, debuted in Tekken 6, while the original Raven was introduced in Tekken 5. The two feature in new trailers along with a handful of new screenshots.

Tekken 7 launching early ’17 for console, PC, TTT2 free for Live Gold

Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for Tekken 7. The video coincides with the news that the game will be released in early 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Currently in development under franchise director Katsuhiro Harada, the home port will feature several additions over the arcade version, including Story Mode, which will host seven new characters alongside Street Fighter’s Akuma. The storyline will follow the struggle between members of the Mishima clan. To celebrate the announcement, and so players can take advantage of its recent addition to the list of Backward Compatible titles, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be free for a limited time for Xbox Live Gold members, starting today at 1 p.m. (CST) until June 21 at 5:00 a.m. (CST).

Tekken 7: The King of the Iron Fist Tournament 2016 – NA detailed

Bandai Namco has revealed details about the first North American Tekken 7 tournament. The King of the Iron Fist Tournament 2016 – North America will take place throughout the year in 18 cities across the US and Canada. The tournament began on February 19 at Wizard World in Portland, OR and will run through November 6, ending at the Wizard World Comic Con and Gaming Tour in Pittsburg, PA. As an aside, the release also noted that event locations will be the only way North American players will be able to try the arcade version. The full schedule has been posted below.

New extended version of Tekken 7 trailer revealed at Comic-Con

Bandai Namco has released an extended version of the Tekken 7 teaser that was debuted during this year’s Evo. The new cut was shown at the studio’s Fighting Game panel during Comic-Con and runs a little over a minute and a half longer than the original.

Bandai Namco reveals Tekken 7 at Evo 2014

Bandai Namco decided to add even more energy (some might say “hype”) to Evo 2014 by announcing Tekken 7. Details were scarce, save for that Unreal Engine 4 is being used to power the brawler. According to series executive producer and game director Katsuhiro Harada, the team went with UE4 to “focus our efforts on making Tekken 7 the best possible game without worrying about spending time creating a stand-alone graphic engine.” A teaser was released, however, offering a few hints at what’s in store.
