NIS’ tactical role-playing game Disgaea 2 PC has launched on Steam. The computer version features all of the content from the original PS2 release, Disgaea 2: Cursed Memories, and the later enhanced PSP re-release, Dark Hero Days. In the campaign, players take on the role of Adell, a young man unaffected by a curse that’s turning Veldime into a Netherworld, wiping its citizens’ memories and transforming them into demons. In addition to the story, there is a mode to play as a has-been rockstar, Axel, a Stack Attack for deadlier attacks, an Item World to customize kit, and a Dark Court that punishes the good. The PC version features updated controls and three playable characters new to the West: Dark Eclair, Gig, and Miabel.
Focus Home and Rogue Factor are following up the recently released Mordheim: City of the Damned with a new console and PC release, Necromunda: Underhive Wars. The Games Workshop tabletop game is set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, and will feature a turn-based combat system with role-playing-style leveling mechanics. Players take charge of a faction of soldiers who are engaged in a long-running war for the Underhive, “a gigantic warren of derelict factories, rusted metal husks, and forgotten technologies.” More info will be sent out on February 1 and 2 during Focus Home’s What’s Next event in Paris.
Disgaea 5 Complete was recently revealed for Nintendo’s Switch console. The strategy-heavy role-playing game will be available digitally and physically, and include the base game along with all downloadable content. The drops add an extra eight bonus scenarios, four characters, and three character classes. A limited edition is also on offer, and is up for pre-order on NIS’ online store.
THQ Nordic has released King Art’s latest strategy title The Dwarves for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Based on Markus Heitz’s first novel, aptly titled The Dwarves, players take on the role of Tungdil as he leads a party on a mission to save the realm of Girdlegard from evil. The game is said to offer “massive-scale, tactical battles in real-time and a brand new, physics-based ‘crowd combat system’,” with the latter highlighting the scale of combat when the heroes battle hundreds of smaller enemies. King Art funded the game via Kickstarter last year.
NIS has released a story trailer for their upcoming tactical role-playing game God Wars Future Past. The official site has also been updated with information about the battle system and a handful of the characters. The game follows the origins of Japan as told through folklore, with Fuji, Izumo, and Hyuga battling for control of the country, known as Mizuho. As the recently imprisoned Princess Kaguya, players must learn the truth about their past, along the way gaining access to 14 customizable characters, over 30 classes, and 400-plus skills.
NIS has opened up pre-orders for the standard and limited editions of God Wars Future Past. The limited edition of the PS4, PS Vita strategy role-playing game will be exclusive to NIS’ online store and come bundled with several extras: a collector’s box, art book, soundtrack, 27″ x 38″ cloth poster, and 3.5” pocket mirror. Coinciding with the reveal of the premium version is the release of the debut trailer, which features the game’s intro cinematic.
The console version of Mordheim: City of the Damned has launched for PS4 and Xbox One. The digital adaptation of Game Workshop’s boardgame is a tactical-level strategy game that has players fighting for Wyrdstone gems. As the leader of one of four factional Warbands (the Sisters of Sigmar, the Human Mercenaries, the Cult of the Possessed, and the Skaven of Clan Eshin), the player must constantly risk their soldiers’ future in battles that can leave them permanently disabled or even dead. Dead-dead, too—no coming back. Fortunately, careful commanders can also customize their units to maximize their chances of survival.
Mordheim: City of the Damned’s gameplay is highlighted in a new trailer. The tactical strategy game has players fighting for precious Wyrdstone gems. As noted during the console footage, the player’s Warband is constantly at risk during battle, with permanent death and debilitating injuries possible in every encounter. Squads can be called up from one of four factions—the Sisters of Sigmar, the Human Mercenaries, the Cult of the Possessed, and the Skaven of Clan Eshin—while the combat system is augmented by light role-playing elements and unit customization.
NIS is once again teaming up with Natural Doctrine developer Kadokawa Games. This time, the duo will be bringing a new tactical role-playing game to PS4 and PS Vita, God Wars Future Past. Scheduled to launch early next year, digitally and physically, their latest will follow a skewed version of Japanese history told through traditional origin stories. Fuji, Izumo, and Hyuga vie for control of the country, known then as Mizuho, as the once-imprisoned Princess Kaguya escapes her sacrificial fate to learn the truth about her past. During her quest, players will gain access to 14 customizable characters, over 30 classes, and 400-plus skills.
