Balrog, Ibuki, and Story Mode launching tomorrow for Street Fighter V

Capcom has detailed tomorrow’s big update for Street Fighter V. The patch will add the new five-act cinematic story mode, A Shadow Falls, and two new characters, returning brawlers Balrog and Ibuki. The former will be free for everyone, while the latter will require purchase with earned Fight Money or cash. A Shadow Falls takes place between Street Fighter IV and III, with the 16 core characters battling it out as a World Warrior or a member of Shadaloo. Six released and unreleased post-launch downloadable characters are also going to take part. In addition to Balrog and Ibuki, both detailed below, the update will feature their stages, Las Vegas and Karin’s Kanzuki Family Private Beach. General tweaks include “faster and smarter matching” for multiplayer and Currency Shop options to use real money through PS Store and Steam.

Another World Warrior returns today, Guile joins Street Fighter V

Street Fighter II veteran and World Warrior Guile has been added to Street Fighter V. He brings with him a new stage, Character Story, and set of Trials. Guile’s Air Force Base marks the first new stage to be added after launch, and features a few throwbacks to the original level. The stage can be purchased from the in-game shop for 70,000 Fight Money, while Season Pass holders will receive it for free. Guile is currently free as well and will remain so until real currency becomes an option in the shop. The update also implements a new system to punish rage quitters along with improvements to speed up matchmaking.

Nash will be joined by his comrade in arms, and fellow Street Fighter veteran, Guile in an upcoming update to Street Fighter V. As with previous roster reveals, a new trailer and handful of screenshots were released showing the new addition in action. Guile is bringing along his traditional move list along with a special hurricane sonic boom. Time to start saving that fight money.

Street Fighter V update adds first DLC character, Alex

Street Fighter V’s first post-launch roster addition, Alex, is now downloadable. Returning from Street Fighter III, Alex is a hulking grappler that will set players back 100,000 in Fight Money. In addition, new story costumes have been added to the recently launched In-Game Shop that run 40,000 FM each. The in-game currency is earned as players go through the game. The real-world cash equivalent, Zenny, has yet to be implemented, so Alex will be available for a free trial period that will end once Zenny is implemented; at that point, players will need to purchase him (and any other DLC characters released by then) with Zenny or FM. An update earlier this week added several modes and features, including Demonstrations, Trials, Online Rematch for a 2/3 set, eight-person lobbies, and match spectating.

Street Fighter V launches in stores, online for PC and PS4

Seven years and four iterations later, Capcom has officially moved on from Street Fighter IV today with the release of Street Fighter V. (A moment of silence, please.) The cross-platform PC, PS4 fighter returns with “exciting and accessible battle mechanics,” new fighters, and the reappearance of a few Street Fighter Alpha veterans. The entry also introduces two forms of in-game currency to unlock new content, Fight Money and Zenny. The former is earned during play while the latter is purchased with real cash, but everything, including costumes and characters, will be unlockable through gameplay. The first content update is slated to launch next month, which will open the in-game story and add Street Fighter III’s Alex to the roster. A free story expansion is also in the works and set to go live this June.

Street Fighter V to get free cinematic story expansion this June

Capcom revealed new story details for Street Fighter V. Set between Street Fighters III and IV, the fifth entry will feature character stories that set the stage for a free cinematic story expansion that is scheduled to be released in June. Their stories will feature art by Bengus, who has a lengthy history with Capcom, having worked on such titles as Street Fighter Alpha, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and the original Street Fighter. A new trailer and screenshots were released for the upcoming expansion, check them out below. Also for those who have been playing online, a bonus, final beta test has been scheduled for January 30-31.

Street Fighter V adds F.A.N.G. to roster, 2016 DLC characters revealed

Capcom revealed the final character in Street Fighter V’s launch roster during PlayStation Experience. The sixteenth character is F.A.N.G., a strange fighter who doubles as a mad scientist of sorts and also fancies himself the second in command of Shadaloo. Check him out in action below. The studio also announced the six fighters that will be added throughout 2016: Alex, Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri and Urien. They can be purchased with cash for immediate play or unlocked for free through gameplay. Details on how real money transfers to digital money is also broken down below, but for those who want to go fast route, a Season Pass will be available for $29.99. The pass will offer release access to all characters plus a premium costume for each and an exclusive PS4 theme.

Dhalsim joins Street Fighter V, release date, DLC plans revealed

Capcom announced at Paris Games Week that Street Fighter veteran Dhalsim is the latest addition to Street Fighter V’s roster. A now-bearded Dhalsim is returning with Yoga Float as his V-Skill and Yoga Burner as his V-Trigger. Check out his trailer and screenshots below. It was also revealed that the game will be available on February 16. Additionally, the studio plans on releasing six new characters throughout 2016, along with balance updates, challenges, costumes, and gameplay content. All updates and balance changes will be free, while all gameplay-related material will be obtainable with real money, represented by an in-game currency called Zenny, or free via an earnable in-game currency called Fight Money. Fight Money will be acquired during play through the completion of daily goals and leveling up of characters.

Zangief returns! The Red Cyclone to be in Street Fighter V

Another Street Fighter II veteran has made their way onto the roster of Street Fighter V. Capcom announced at IgroMir in Russia that Zangief is the latest addition to the cast. A new trailer and set of screenshots were also released, some of which show off his V-Skill, Iron Muscle, and his V-Trigger, Cyclone Lariat. Looks like all that bear wrestling has paid off.

Street Fighter V gets a bit fancier with addition of Karin Kanzuki

Street Fighter Alpha continues to make its way back to the scene with the reveal that Karin Kanzuki has joined Street Fighter V. The aristocratic brawler, last seen in Street Fighter Alpha 3, returns with a new dash move along with a new stage, Kanzuki Estate. She is already playable in a build currently on the show floor at Tokyo Game Show. Check below for a new trailer and screenshots. Capcom also announced that they will be using Capcom Fighters Network to link players together, where they can view profiles, statistics, replays, and send battle invitations.
