Reinforce the ramparts! Stronghold Crusader 2 delayed three weeks

Stronghold Crusader 2 is being bumped back from September 2 to September 23. Firefly Studios announced that the real-time strategy title will be given a few more weeks of development time after the closed beta highlighted that some additional time would be needed for “extra polish, optimization and bug fixes,” according to studio creative director Simon Bradbury. Veteran strategy fans will remember Crusader as the spin-off to the original Stronghold, a unique castle-defending strategy title released in 2001, which featured Frank and Saracen forces squaring off in a series of famous encounters, including the Siege of Antioch and the Siege of Jerusalem.

Galactic Civilizations III enters beta, joins Steam Early Access

Galactic Civilizations III has officially entered beta. As it makes the transition to a new phase of development, Stardock has decided to launch the game on Steam as part of its Early Access program while also lowering the price by five bucks to $44.99. The version available now features sandbox mode and online multiplayer, a first for the series, while diplomacy, revamped ship combat, and trade are planned to go live “in the coming months.” A few of the improvements since the alpha include enhancements to the ship designer and the shipyard being moved off-world to allow for colonies to pool resources.

Total War: Rome II gets one free, one for-pay character DLC pack

Creative Assembly has released two new character packs for Rome II. The first, August Warriors Update, is a free add-on that includes three female warrior units (the sword-and-shield infantry Hex-Bearers for the Suebi garrison, the mounted archer Amazonian Riders for Royal Scythia and as mercenaries for Sarmati and Ponto-Caspia , and the mounted archer Scythian Noblewomen for Royal Scythia), four units for the Suebi (the Horse Runners elite skirmishers, the Spear Wall spear-and-shield infantry, the Round Shield Swordsmen, and the Riders of the Hunt spear cavalry). The for-pay pack, Daughters of Mars, includes seven new units for Rome, Lusitani, Sparta, and Suebi, which can slo be recruited as mercenaries in certain provinces. Kalypso to publish Gaming Mind’s new RTS, Grand Ages: Medieval

Kalypso has added a new real-time strategy title to their line-up, Gaming Mind Studios’ Grand Ages: Medieval. The game’s official debut will be behind closed doors at this year’s gamescom, but Kalypso did reveal several details. Players will take on the role of a mayor governing a small European settlement in the year 1050. The village sits in a large world, around 30 million square kilometers, within which players can expand their realm and solidify their hold on power by conquering new territories, founding new cities, building trade networks, and researching new technology. Disasters, including fires, droughts, and plagues, will add an element of randomness to keep would-be kings on their toes. Multiplayer will also be supported for up to eight players.

Ubisoft and Blue Byte have revealed some new screenshots and details about the gameplay and upcoming closed beta for the online-only The Settlers – Kingdoms of Anteria. As in previous Settlers titles, players will act as the guiding force behind a group of villagers who work to turn their hamlet into a powerful kingdom. Champions will be called upon to secure resources, protect the citizens, and expand the realm, adding an element of action to the traditional city-building formula. Players will select the champion’s class and skill, and then have them fight against enemies and bosses to earn resources, gear, and experience, while the town expands with building upgrades, improved production chains, and more territory. Up to four players can team up to fight together as well as explore each other’s towns and trade resources.

Scheduled to launch later this year, the expansion will add a new faction that specializes in diplomacy and intrigue, a native alien species, agent units that engage in covert warfare and information gathering, minefields, Amphibious formers to convert ocean tiles into land, and a variety of tweaks to the core gameplay.

Atlus bringing Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord to North America

The strategy-RPG series Tears to Tiara will make its official North American debut with Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord. Fighting fans might recognize the name from Aquapazza: Aquaplus Dream Match, the Examu-developed crossover brawler also published by Atlus, but Heir of the Overlord marks the first time the series has had a full localized release. Atlus is translating the text to English but noted that they are leaving the Japanese audio as it is. The campaign is said to last over 80 hours, mixing turn-based combat with visual-novel-style storytelling elements. The plot is … unique: Hamilcar Barca, father of the famous Hannibal, throws off the yoke of the Divine Empire and sets out on a path of revenge to retake the kingdom of Hispania, guided by a goddess and harnessing the strength of a malevolent demon that awakens within him.

Virtual traders will be able to tighten their hold on the sea trade with the release of Rise of Venice – Gold Edition. The set, available digitally today and in stores on August 26, includes the base game, the Beyond the Sea expansion, and both DLC packs, Steamship and Sea Monsters. The expansion widens the playable area as far as Gibraltar as well as adds 13 new cities, new residence missions, special Doge tasks, and the NAO ship class.

Natural Doctrine gets new website, first batch of English screenshots
