Mortal Kombat XL headed to PC, patch to console version on Oct. 4

Warner Bros. is bringing Mortal Kombat back to PC with Mortal Kombat XL. Scheduled to launch on October 4, the Qloc-ported fighter will feature the original game along with all skin and Kombat fighter packs. The skin drops include the Apocalypse Skin Pack, Brazil Skin Pack, Kold War Skin Pack, Kold War Scorpion Skin, and Samurai Skin Pack. The Kombat packs add several fighters to the roster: Goro, Predator, the Xenomorph from Alien, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Tremor, Tanya, Triborg, and Bo’Rai Cho. Current owners having connectivity problems will be able to download a patch at release that provides balance changes and an “enhanced online experience.”

Enter the Gungeon getting Supply Drop update, to be at Pax West

Dodge Roll is prepping a new patch for Enter the Gungeon, the Supply Drop Update. The drop will add over a hundred rooms, along with new companions, bosses, enemy types, shrines, and weapons. Of particular note is the Bullet Gun, a bullet that shoots bullet-shooting guns. Another update is planned for later this year, and an expansion in early 2017. In the meantime, Pax West attendees can check out the new content at booth 2343.

God Eater 2: Rage Burst released for console, PC, Resurrection for PC

Monster-munching action-crafter God Eater 2: Rage Burst has been released for PC, PS4, and PS Vita. The game takes place three years after the events of Resurrection, as a red rain spreads a deadly disease known as the Black Plague. To stop the pandemic, players join a special unit, Blood. The group’s affiliation with the Fenrir Organization grants them access to God Arc weapons, which are capable of destroying and consuming the monstrous Aragami. With up to three friends, players use the weapons to clear the land, gaining access to more than 100 Blood Arts in their quest to save mankind. Resurrection is also available on Steam today, and as with the console version, is included with every copy of Rage Burst.

Gamescom trailer released for Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration

The Gamescom theater demo of Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration has been released by Crystal Dynamics. The video covers a section from the campaign, Thin Ice; a preview of Blood Ties, the upcoming narrative add-on that pits Lara against her uncle; and a look at the zombie-infested survival mode, Lara’s Nightmare. The 20 Year Celebration release also includes PSVR support, a co-op mode (Endurance), Extreme Survivor difficulty, 5 classic Lara skins, a weapon and outfit from Tomb Raider III, and all released downloadable content.

Assault Suit Leynos out digitally for PC, physically for PS4

Following its digital launch for PS4, Assault Suit Leynos is now available on store shelves for PS4 and through digital outlets for PC. There are also some extras. The boxed copy includes a poster* (incorrect, see update), while the PC version is available as a standalone version for $19.99 and as a Special Edition for $24.99. The special content, purchasable separately for $4.99, bundles the game’s soundtrack along with a 39-page excerpt from John Szcepaniak’s The Untold History of Japanese Game Developers that focuses on series creator Masaya/NCS.

PC puzzle-platformer Seasons After Fall to launch Friday

The puzzle-heavy platformer Seasons After Fall has been dated and will hit Steam on September 2. As a magical wild fox, players are able to change the seasons as well as the world around them to solve puzzles. Environmental obstacles will require the manipulation of the elements, often multiple times over, such as creating a makeshift pass by summoning water to then freeze to use as a bridge. A better look can be found below with the newly released trailer from Gamescom. Steam users itching to navigate the wilds can currently preorder the game for 15% off.

Supernatural-tinged noir Virginia launching Sept. 22, demo out

Variable State has sent word that their upcoming first-person thriller, Virginia, is set to launch on September 22. The noir is said to be infused with elements of horror and science fiction, and being set in 1992, inspired by several shows of that era, including X-Files, Twin Peaks, and the revamped The Outer Limits. As a newly minted FBI agent, players are assigned to look into the disappearance of a young boy from Kingdom, Virginia, Lucas Fairfax. A veteran of the force has also been assigned the case, and will keep an eye on the player throughout the investigation. A demo for Mac and Windows PC is currently available through Steam.

Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel announced, launching early 2017

Bandai Namco has detailed the first downloadable add-on for Dark Souls III, Ashes of Ariandel. The first of two expansions, Ashes of Ariandel will send players to the frozen realm of Ariandel to uncover the evil behind the land’s woes. The journey will feature new armor sets, enemies, magic, weapons, and (undetailed) multiplayer features. Events will also expand on the overarching storyline. A batch of screenshots, along with a trailer, were released to offer an early look at the new quest.

Endless Space 2 set to hit Steam Early Access next month

Amplitude will be bringing their latest 4X strategy titles, Endless Space 2, to Steam Early Access next month. The studio also revealed a new faction trailer with the Lumeris being the latest to join the galactic roster. The Lumeris are an amphibious people that have, as with some lovable big-earned aliens from another franchise, developed a society that focuses on trade and acquisition. A handful of families manage the various elements of their economy, with a balance kept to ensure that no single family gains too much power. The Lumeris are one of eight planned factions, four of which will be available in the Early Access version.

Steins;Gate headed to Steam next month for Windows PC

The sci-fi-themed visual novel Steins;Gate will be available for PC on September 8. The series, available for PlayStation 3 and Vita, will be making its PC debut on Steam, courtesy of Mages. The story, set in the summer of 2010, takes place in Akihabara as a scientist learns that he can email the past. The nonlinear plot consists of an estimated 30 to 50 hours of material to read, as storylines intertwine and endings change depending on the player’s decisions. The PC version will support Steam achievements and trading cards.
