Souls fans are getting a chance to see more of Dark Souls III’s upcoming downloadable pack, Ashes of Ariandel. As the add-on closes in on its release date, October 25, FromSoftware offers a closer look at the multiplayer covenants and Undead Matches. The new player-versus-player mode allows players to battle their friends in duels or against up to five others in free-for-all and team-based matches.
Tales of Berseria is set to be released next January in North America, according to Namco Bandai. The PS4 version will debut first, on January 24, with the PC version following a few days later, January 27, on Steam. The upcoming entry follows Velvet, a “tortured soul who acts purely on instinct as she sets out on a quest for revenge.” A $149.99 Collector’s Edition was also announced for PS4. It will be limited to 10,000 and come bundled with several extras: a Velvet and Laphicet Chibi Kyun Chara figures, 8-bit retro keychain set, music CD with selected tracks, hardcover prequel novel (A Witch’s Tale: A World Full of Daemons), set of trading cards, starter strategy guide artbook, and themed SteelBook case.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III’s final download pack, Salvation, has launched for PC and Xbox One. Salvation wraps up Origins Zombies, with the squad squaring off against Doctor Monty in The House, as well as adds four new maps: Citadel, Micro, Outlaw, and Rupture. Ace Team has updated the PC version of their quirky action title The Deadly Tower of Monsters. The latest patch adds Survival Mode, which will have players alternating between staging and combat platforms. The former allows them to pick and outfit one of the three playable characters before they proceed to the latter, which hosts progressively tougher waves of enemies. Defeated enemies drop coins that can be used to purchase abilities, health, and weapons. The game is also a part of Steam’s Midweek Madness promo, and can be purchased for 66% off until October 7.
NIS has begun the countdown to the release of their upcoming survival-horror title Yomawari: Night Alone. And they are kicking it off with a new trailer appropriately titled Countdown to Nightmare. The video offers a short look at what players are in for as a young girl searching for her sister and dog in a strange, dangerous dimension filled with monsters.
Degica is continuing their shooter run on PCs with Cave’s DoDonPachi Resurrection. Scheduled to launch on October 14, the 1995 bullet-hell-style horizontal shooter will launch on Steam with eight modes. Prepare yourself, it gets a bit word soup-y: Novice, Normal 1.5 (original game), Normal 1.51 (different scoring system and controls), Arrange A (ver L) (mechanics and a ship from DDP Blissful Death), Arrange B (ver B) (customizable single-stage sessions), Black Label (new attack and final boss), Black Label Arrange (international release with Tigerschwert from Ketsui), and Black Label Novice. Local two-player co-op play is also supported. As a pilot trying to stop time-traveling Elemental Dolls from altering history, players will have access to three ships and the Counter Laser system.
Messhof has revealed that they are working on Nidhogg 2. The acrobatic fencing title is set to return next year for PC. The game will feature 10-plus levels, overhauled environments and animations, local and online play, a single-player campaign with challenge rounds, and a soundtrack with music by Mux Mool, Daedelus, and others. TwitchCon attendees will be able to try a hands-on demo at Booth 104 in the Indie District from September 30 to October 2. Those unable to make it can catch a livestream of a demonstration on Saturday, October 1 at 5:15 p.m. at TwitchCon’s Indie channel.
A new trailer has been released for the space-exploration title Osiris: New Dawn. The game, which launched today on Steam Early Access, features a heavy emphasis on survival elements, as players attempt to establish a colony on a far-flung planet. Settling will require battling alien creatures, researching new technologies, growing food, prospecting for materials, and establishing outposts in space. Multiplayer also allows for players to work together to build a base or to attack other colonies.
Zen Studios has released two packs of tables featuring heroes and villains for Marvel Pinball. The tables are available across their console and PC lines, with the mobile versions getting them on Thursday. Ms. Marvel, Black Widow, Squirrel Girl, and others make appearances. On one table, Black Widow and Madame Masque must keep the Cosmic Cube balls from breaking to avoid an alternate reality dominated by the Soviet Union. On another, Bombshell and Ms. Marvel duke it while Squirrel Girl and Spider-Gwen assist from the sidelines.
