Developer- and Publisher-specific Articles: StarCraft
Blizzard has sent a reminder that BlizzCon 2013 is right around the corner. Beginning this Friday, fans of all things Craft (and Diablo) will be able to celebrate their fandom during the annual two-day celebration. This year’s festivities, once again held at the Anaheim Convention Center, will feature numerous panels, including one with director Duncan Jones about the upcoming Warcraft movie, a concert by Blink-182, community cosplay, and both the StarCraft II World Championship Series Global Final and World of Warcraft Arena Invitational.
Blizzard’s two-day festival of all things Craft (and Diablo) is set to once again take over the Anaheim Convention Center this November. For those looking to attend, Blizzard has announced that tickets for BlizzCon will be sold in two batches, on April 24 at 7 p.m. and 27 at 10 a.m. (Pacific). There will also be a limited number of tickets to a dinner prior to the show in support of the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, which will go on sale May 1 at 7 p.m.
The Zerg know how to do two things, swarm outposts and party. The latter is a little-known fact, but come March 11, they will be doing plenty of both with the launch of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm. Blizzard will be holding several parties around the globe to celebrate the release, with festivities planned in the US, Australia, France, Russia, South Korea, and elsewhere. Each location will host Blizzard staff who will be on-hand to greet fans. The official US party will be at the GameStop in Irvine, California, located at The Great Wheel Court of the Irvine Spectrum Mall, 71 Fortune Drive.
Blizzard is gearing up for the impending release of Heart of the Swarm, the first expansion for StarCraft II, with a new update for Wings of Liberty. The studio has released three videos detailing what’s been changed and added, as well as summaries, included below. Some highlights include new streamlined menu screens, increased privacy options to hide build order and match history, an increase in player party size to 16, and Unranked Play for matchmaking.
Blizzard is kicking off the StarCraft World Championship Series North American Finals by knocking $20 off the price of the download version of StarCraft II. If you’ve been on the fence about Wings of Liberty, now’s your chance to snag it for 33% off ($39.99).
Blizzard has announced that tickets for the sixth annual BlizzCon convention will go on sale in two batches, starting on Saturday, May 21. For those who don’t get in the first time around, the second batch will go on sale on Wednesday, May 25. Tickets are $175 and will be available at BlizzCon.com.
Blizzard’s decade-in-the-making real-time strategy behemoth StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has sold over 3 million copies in its first month on the market. Day one sales surpassed one million copies while another 500,000+ were sold over the course of the subsequent 24 hours. According to Blizzard, StarCraft II is “the bestselling PC game of 2010 and the fastest-selling real-time strategy game of all time.”
