Lightning Returns hits Steam, Final Fantasy VI launching next week

Square Enix is adding two more Final Fantasy titles to Steam, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy VI. Lightning Returns is available today for $15.99, and includes graphic options for high-end systems plus all downloadable content from the console version, save for ‘Final Fantasy VII Aerith Costume’. Final Fantasy VI is scheduled to go live on December 16 for $15.99, but early buyers can currently purchase it for 10% off. The story follows the mysterious Terra Branford as she uncovers her past. The PC version will feature support for Steam achievements and trading cards.

Time to head to Medici, Just Cause 3 out now for console, PC

Avalanche Studios’ latest open-world explosionfest Just Cause 3 is now available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Square Enix-published title continues the series’ tradition of pitting players against a ruthless dictator, in this case General Di Ravell of Medici. As Rico Rodriguez, players are tasked with causing as much mayhem as possible in the republic’s 400 square miles in order to topple the regime. A gameplay trailer below offers a sample of the over-the-top action, while the launch trailer and some new screens have also been posted.

Life is Strange to get limited physical release on January 19

Square Enix has announced a limited-run physical version of Dontnod’s Life is Strange for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The time-bending episodic adventure will be available in a boxed set on January 19 and contain a 32-page art book, directors’ commentary, and a selection of tracks from the game. The full list of included tunes is available below, with 14 from the soundtrack and 8 from the game’s composer, Jonathan Morali.

Final Fantasy XI final big update launched, Seekers of Adoulin

Square Enix is capping off 14 years of Final Fantasy XI with one final update. Seekers of Adoulin adds a new area, Reisenjima, where players will battle to secure Vana’diel. To celebrate, all accounts inactive as of October 23 will be able to play the ending chapter for free from November 13 through 24, and all previous releases are also being discounted. The Seekers of Adoulin expansion pack will be $4.99 (from $9.99) and the all-in-one Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition will be $9.99 (from $39.99) from tomorrow until November 30. Nier: Automata officially named, trailer and screenshots released

Square Enix has announced that the untitled Nier project revealed during E3 has been officially titled Nier: Automata. A new trailer and batch of screenshots were released from the title’s recent presentation at Paris Games Week. The collaboration with PlatinumGames will put players in the role of 2B, a battle android with the YoRHa automated infantry squad. Her assignment is to defeat an army of machines that have forced humanity to flee Earth and seek shelter on the moon. To accomplish her mission, she has access to a sword for close-range combat and a Pod support system to battle ranged enemies. As she progresses, the truth about the origins of the struggle will be revealed.

Square Enix authorizes Deus Ex – Revision mod, on Steam for free

Square Enix is celebrating Deus Ex’s 15th anniversary with a fan-created mod for the original Deus Ex. Released in 2000 by Caustic Creative, Revision updates the environments and the soundtrack. As the original is required, Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition (and Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut) is available on Steam for 80% off as part of a promo that begins today and runs through October 16. Revision is also available to download for free through Steam.

The Dragon Quest adventurers are hitting the battlefield today in Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below. A sharp departure for the series, Dragon Quest Heroes is an action RPG that lets players bash hordes of familiar enemies with heroes from throughout the series. Two new characters, Aurora and Luceus, join 13 characters from IV, V, and VIII to rid the land of a curse by hacking, slashing, leveling, and summoning friendly monsters.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided pre-order program revamped, tiers dropped

Square Enix has revamped the pre-order program for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. After receiving negative feedback from the community about the former tier-based model, which added items as pre-order milestones were met, the studio has decided to go with an all-in-one plan: “all of the associated content with the program will now be made available for free to anyone who pre-orders or purchases a Day 1 edition.” One particularly contentious bonus was the ability to play the game early. This has also been changed, and now, everyone will be able to access the game on February 23.

Square Enix has released a new trailer, along with a batch of screenshots, for their upcoming action role-playing title Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below. The latest video, King Doric’s Royal Overview Trailer, features the king detailing various aspects of the game, including the heroes, party creation, monster metals, alchemy, and shopping, to prepare the player for their upcoming battle against the land’s crazed monsters. Stateside players will have even more to handle, as the North American version will include all of the downloadable content released in Japan.

Final Fantasy V now available for Windows PC, Amazon Fire TV

Square Enix has released Final Fantasy V for PC via Steam. The latest version features improved graphics, with new material provided by character designer Kazuko Shibuya, optimized controls, and extra content from the 2006 Game Boy Advance re-release. Carried over from the handheld version are a new dungeon, The Sealed Temple, and an optional boss, Enuo. Steam achievements and trading cards are also supported. Additionally, Final Fantasy V and VI are now compatible with Amazon Fire TV. Everyone who purchased the games through Amazon’s Appstore can download the compatibility update for free.
