Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster screens, audio drama clip released

Final Fantasy fans looking forward to Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster can now hear a portion of the audio drama being added to the set as well as see more of what’s in store in a host of new screenshots. Square Enix has released a 30-minute preview of the audio drama, created by scenario writer Kazushige Nojima, that is being added as part of the credit sequence. Ten new screens were also released, showing some of the updated visuals.

Square Enix celebrating Final Fantasy XI’s 11 years with free gifts

Final Fantasy XI turned 11 earlier this summer, and Square Enix is celebrating with six gifts, including three free expansions. The three add-ons are being offered for free for a limited time, from August 8 to October 11: Vision of Abyssea, Scars of Abyssea, and Heroes of Abyssea. The Abyssea trilogy requires that players have the Rise of the Zilart and Wings of the Goddess expansions installed and registered, as well as one level-30 job. The other five gifts, detailed below, include free cruor, 11 of the most popular atma, and an increase in initial Traverser stone stocks.

Guardian Cross launches on Google Play Store for Android

Square Enix’s free-to-play card battle title Guardian Cross is now available for Android. In Guardian Cross, players face off against fellow Guardians in a Coliseum with a team of some of the over 120 different beasts that can be captured and trained. Originally released for iOS, the Android version features all of the updates and tweaks made to the original since its launch, as well as new card artwork. New guardians, hunting grounds, and quests are also planned in future updates.

Chaos Rings moves from App Store to PSN, now available for PS Vita

Chaos Rings, Square Enix’s action-RPG that debuted for iOS in 2010, is now available for PS Vita. The download-only release features four pairs of men and women who are made to fight to the death. Each duo’s storyline intersects with one another, and each character is voiced by Japanese voice actors. A sequel, Chaos Rings II, launched last year for iPad.

E3 video walkthrough of Murdered: Soul Suspect released

Square Enix has released a walkthrough of Airtight Games’ upcoming investigative action-adventure title Murdered: Soul Suspect. The developer-guided video, presented at E3, is over 25 minutes long and offers an extended look at what players can expect as recently deceased detective Ronan O’Connor. As a spirit stuck in the limbo world of Dusk, O’Connor must battle evil spirits while reading the minds of his fellow detectives and manipulating their actions in order to solve the mystery of his own murder.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster Limited Edition bonus announced

Square Enix has announced a Limited Edition version of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for everyone who pre-orders a copy. The premium set comes with special packaging and a 24-page art book that is filled with commentary from the original development teams as well as a message from producer Yoshinori Kitase. It was also revealed that a 30-minute audio drama from scenario writer Kazueshige Nojima will be included as part of the end-game credits, and that there will be cross-platform support between the PS3 and PS Vita. A dozen new screens and a new comparison video were also released.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII new Japan Expo trailer released

A new trailer for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII has been released. It originally premiered at the Japan Expo, and now Square Enix has made it available worldwide. The nearly two-minute video reveals Lightning’s task of having to lead lost souls to a new world, as well as a little more of exploration and combat.

Final Fantasy VII now available for PC on Steam, other digital outlets

The downloadable enhanced re-release of Final Fantasy VII has launched on Amazon, Steam, and other digital outlets. The latest version of the fan-favorite release originally went live last August, and features cloud saving, in-game achievements, and a Character Booster, but it was only available on Square Enix’s eStore. Starting today, PC gamers can grab the same release from their preferred service for $11.99.

Lightning Returns gets Cloud Strife outfit pack pre-order bonus

Square Enix has announced that players who pre-order Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will receive a day-one downloadable outfit pack that features Cloud Strife’s Soldier 1st Class uniform. The drop will also include Cloud’s Buster Sword, Soldier’s Band, and Final Fantasy VII’s Victory Fanfare theme and finishing animation. The outfit will bestow special abilities as well, but just what those abilities are weren’t revealed. A few preliminary screens were released to show how Lightning might look in the final uniform, and a few extra shots were added for good measure.

Square Enix had a very Final Fantasy-heavy E3 showing, with news about Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, new media from Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster, and the reveal that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is now Final Fantasy XV. The studio also had surprises in store, including the announcement that Deus Ex: Human Revolution: Director’s Cut is going multiplatform and that the next entry in the Kingdom Hearts series is well underway.
