Arsenal of Elegant Destruction highlights Nier: Automata’s combat

Nier: Automata’s combat system is highlighted in a new gameplay trailer. With the game nearing its release date, Square Enix is showing off the weapon-based combat system in a new video from co-developer PlatinumGames, Arsenal of Elegant Destruction. Included is a demonstration of the game’s combo-extension mechanic that allows players to alternate between four weapon types on the fly, including bracers, spears, and swords.

Combat highlighted in new Nier: Automata trailer

Square Enix has given an expanded look at Nier: Automata. The trailer, titled Glory to Mankind 119450310, finds players in the year 11945 during the 14th Machine War. A squad of androids battle machine lifeforms over a post-apocalyptic landscape in order to secure the world for the remaining humans. Players can try their hand at the game with the recently released PS4 demo on PSN.

I Am Setsuna hitting Switch digitally on March 3

Square Enix has revealed that the Nintendo Switch version of I Am Setsuna will launch digitally on March 3. Tokyo RPG Factory’s debut title features elements inspired by past titles from Square’s library, and according to the statement, “merges nostalgic elements with modern current-gen technology.” The Switch port will be expanded with a new mode, the Temporal Battle Arena, which will allow players to fight other players’ parties.

Final Fantasy XV sells over 6 million, carnival event kicking off Jan. 24

Final Fantasy XV has sold over six million units, according to Square Enix. The figure includes copies sold at retail and through digital outlets. Five of the six million were sold on launch day. Post-release downloadable content has also gone live to expand the base game, with two drops on offer: the free Holiday Pack and for-pay Holiday Pack+. Downloading either pack will allow players to access a special upcoming in-game event, the Moogle Chocobo Carnival, beginning Tuesday, January 24.

Nier: Automata demo now available on PSN for PS4

Players can now try a portion of Nier: Automata. Co-developed with Platinum Games, the action role-playing game finds combat android 2B on a mission to destroy a weapon stored inside a large facility. The demo can be downloaded off of PSN. A trailer was also released highlighting Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy XV collaborations with 2B equipping Noctis’ Engine Blade and the Cypress Stick from Dragon Quest.

Dragon Quest Heroes II coming to North America, media released

Dragon Quest’s spin-off train will continue next April with the release of Dragon Quest Heroes II. Scheduled to release on the 25th, the action-heavy role-playing game will once again put players in the middle of hordes of enemies, only now they are on a mission to restore peace to the Seven Realms. This time, players can get some help from others, as multiplayer will be supported for up to four players online. Two new characters are also being introduced, cousins Lazarel and Teresa. Nier: Automata to get playable demo for PS4 on December 22

Players who have been waiting for the long-awaited follow-up to Nier, Nier: Automata, will be able to try it themselves on December 22. Square Enix has announced that a playable demo will be going live that finds the attack android 2B searching an abandoned factory for a weapon that she needs to destroy. There was no word on a possible PC demo.

Final Fantasy XV sells digitally, ships to retail 5-million-plus units

Square Enix has sent the celebratory word that Final Fantasy XV has shipped physically and sold digitally over five million units globally. The release marks the first time that a Final Fantasy has been released simultaneously around the world. The studio also noted that they they “will continue to work on projects to expand and enhance customer enjoyment of Final Fantasy XV, releasing additional content and associated series products.”

Final Fantasy XV launches in store, online for PS4 and Xbox One

Square Enix has released the long-awaited fifteenth entry in the mainline Final Fantasy series today. The delayed release is being described as the “next evolution of the world renowned video game series, featuring visceral action-packed battles, a fantasy world based in reality, and colossal wonders to behold.” Players take on the role of Crown Prince Noctis, as he and his friends go on a quest within the lands of Eos to discover his destiny amidst an ongoing war with the Niflheim empire. World of Final Fantasy now available online, in stores for PS4, PS Vita

Following last week’s demo release, the full version of World of Final Fantasy has hit store shelves and digital outlets. The story follows two siblings, Reynn and Lann, who are on a quest throughout the world of Grymoire to restore their lost memories. Along the way, they will meet old series favorites, and 200-plus creatures, called Mirages, that can be captured and evolved through training. The Day One edition includes an exclusive Sephiroth summon as well as the option to choose the Japanese voice track.
