PlayStation Experience 2014 Highlights – Suikoden II, Street Fighter V

Some big news came out today from Sony’s PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas. The biggest of which is arguably the reveal and announcement of console exclusivity of Street Fighter V. Sony and Capcom have partnered up to release it for PS4, and to make it cross-platform compatible with PC. To keep gamers occupied until then, Capcom is also releasing Ultra Street Fighter IV for PS4. Another surprise came out of Konami, who announced that the highly acclaimed Suikoden I and II will be available on PSN for PS3 and PS Vita next week, on December 9. Sega wasn’t to be outdone, however, with the reveal that Yakuza 5 will be a downloadable release for PS3 in 2015, nor Atlus, who gave Persona fans more to look forward to in 2015 the news that Persona 5 will be available for PS3 and PS4.

PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Edition announced, limited to 12,300

Sony is celebrating the PlayStation’s vicennalia with a special 500 GB limited edition PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 20th Anniversary Edition costs $499 and is limited to 12,300 units worldwide. Sporting a color scheme reminiscent of the original PlayStation, the 20th Anniversary Edition is being released to celebrate the first model’s December 3, 1994, Japanese launch. All of the accessories, including a controller and PlayStation Camera, as well as the box will sport the original gray color. North American gamers can pre-order a unit from sony.store.com on Saturday, December 6. The full details on when the pre-order link will go live will be revealed at 10:00 a.m. (PST)/noon (CST) during the PlayStation Experience keynote presentation, which will be streamed on Sony’s official Twitch channel.

Gran Turismo Awards 2014 to be at SEMA, sign-up forms now up

The Gran Turismo Awards will be returning to this year’s SEMA Show. Five attendees at the automotive trade event will have a chance to have their rides face off for the grand prize of being selected for inclusion as a playable car in an upcoming Gran Turismo by series creator Kazunori Yamauchi. The winners will be announced on November 5 at Drai’s Nightclub inside the Cromwell Hotel in Las Vegas. Details on each category and their respective judges are available below. PlayStation 4 to get new features soon, passes 10-million-sold mark

Sony has revealed that over 10 million PlayStation 4s have been sold as of August 10. The press release also stated that the PS4’s brisk sales, at less than nine months on the market, represent “the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history,” while software sales topped more than 30 million. Also noted were the upcoming releases of several previously announced features, including the ability to upload directly to YouTube and remotely take over a friend’s controller via Share Play.

E3 2014: Sony – White PS4 Destiny bundle, PS TV, PS Now, more

Sony has announced that they will be expanding the PlayStation 4 line with a Destiny bundle that comes with a new Glacier White model. The pack will launch this fall and come with the system, a 30-day membership to PS Plus, and a copy of Destiny for $449. Alongside the model, Sony will also be releasing white peripherals, including a Dual Shock 4 and vertical stand. Several features were also announced, including greater Youtube integration, which will allow users to share, view, and upload videos. Another feature will allow PS3 and PS4 owners to invite PSN friends to join multiplayer sessions in titles they don’t own, with support announced for Far Cry 4.

The latter updates are largely for improving integration with the PS4, which will itself be receiving a host of new features and long-awaited improvements. PlayStation 4 passes 7 million sold, software sales pass 20.5 million

Sony announced earlier today that the PS4 has passed another milestone with news that over 7 million units have been sold as of April 6. On the software side, over 20.5 million copies have been sold in stores and online through the PS Store as of April 13. The system passed the 6-million-sales mark in hardware and 13-million-sales mark in software just this last month. A list of the 120 titles slated for release this year has also been posted online at PlayStation Blog.

Sony debuts Project Morpheus VR headset for PS4 at GDC 2014

The Oculus Rift’s competition is getting stiffer with the announcement that Sony is entering the VR fray with a new headset, Project Morpheus. No release date was announced, but the headset will work alongside the PlayStation Camera to give PS4 gamers the feeling “as though they are physically inside the virtual world of a game.” Inertial sensors within the camera and headset will track head rotation so that the game world moves naturally with the player’s motions, and the set will also support the PS Move Motion Controller, with the headset projecting an object in place of the controller. The Morpheus will also use 3D audio technology to produce sounds on the same plane as well as above and below the player.

PlayStation 4 sales surpass 6 million in hardware, 13 in software

After selling 370,000 units in Japan since its launch on February 22, the PlayStation 4 has passed the 6-million-unit mark, according to a new announcement from Sony. In addition, PS Plus is also increasing in numbers, as according to the release, “in addition to existing members, more than half of PS4 owners are enjoying the benefits of PS Plus.” On the software side, Killzone: Shadow Fall has now sold over 2.1 million copies worldwide, while general software sales have reached over 13.7 million sales in stores and through PS Store for all available games.

Slimmer PS Vita coming to North America in Borderlands 2 bundle

The slimmer, OLED-less model of the PS Vita released last October in Japan will be making its way to North America this spring. The PCH-2000 series has 1 GB of internal memory, an additional hour of battery life, and is also around 20 percent slimmer and 15 percent lighter than the model currently for sale. The unit will be sold alongside Borderlands 2 (with six DLC packs) and an 8 GB memory card as part of the $199.99 Borderlands 2 Limited Edition Bundle.
