Sony reveals PlayStation 4 details at PlayStation Meeting 2013
Sony revealed initial details about the PlayStation 4 today at the two-hour-plus PlayStation Meeting 2013 in New York. While the final hardware build wasn’t shown and price not announced, the technical specifications and upcoming software features were. The upcoming cycle of Sony’s flagship console will focus on server-side, cloud-based streaming, social media integration, and greater connectivity with mobiles, in particular the PS Vita.

Sony reveals 525K PS3s,160K Vitas sold during Black Friday week
Sony has announced that the PS3 sold over 525,000 consoles and the PS Vita over 160,000 during Black Friday week. According to the company’s number-crunching robots, that represents a 15% increase for PS3 bundle sales and a 9% increase over last year for hardware, software, and peripherals sales. Latin America posted the most significant increase, with “year-over-year sales growth increase of 200%.” SCEA President and CEO Jack Tretton noted that the company is “very pleased” with their Black Friday numbers.

Sony announces two new slimmer PlayStation 3 models, bundles
The PlayStation 3 is slimming down for the winter. Sony has announced that a new slimmer PS3 will be available in either charcoal black or classic white in North America starting in September. There will be two models (a third with 12 GB of flash memory is a Europe-only release) released in new bundles: a 250GB model launching September 25 for $269 with a copy of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Game of the Year Edition and Dust 514 pre-installed with a $30 voucher for DLC, and a 500GB model launching October 30 for $299 with a copy of Assassin’s Creed III.

PS Vita to get PSOne Classics support this month, PS Plus soon
The update that PS Vita users have been waiting for is almost here. Sony has announced that ver. 1.80, the update that will add support for PSOne titles, will launch on August 28. The update will also add support for cross-play functionality, cross-save functionality, playback controls in the Video app, and imported music playlists from PS3 and iTunes.

Sony details PSN Play summer promo for PS3, PS Vita
Sony revealed some new details about their upcoming PSN Play summer promotion today. Starting July 24, and running through August 28, gamers will be able to pre-order four upcoming titles via the PS Store and receive a cash voucher based on how many titles are purchased. The four titles, The Expendables 2 Videogame, Sound Shapes, Papo & Yo, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, detailed below, will offer buyers a $10 PSN cash voucher when they pick up all three, a $6 voucher when they buy any three, and a $3 voucher when they buy any two.

Sorcery works its spell on retail, on store shelves for PS3
The PS Move-only Sorcery is now available for the PS3. Developed by The Workshop and Sony Santa Monica, Sorcery is a single-player adventure based around casting spells, brewing elixirs, and solving puzzles using the Move controller, PS Eye, and the navigation, dualshock, or sixaxis controller. As a young sorcerer’s apprentice, players must venture out into the wilds of the Kingdom of The Dead, Endless Stair, and more as they set out to stop the Nightmare queen from covering the land in darkness.

PS Vita hardware sells over 1.2 million, software over 2 million
Sony has announced that, as of February 26, the PlayStation Vita has sold over 1.2 million units worldwide. The system launched on December 17 in Japan, then in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea before hitting store shelves in North and Latin America, Europe, Singapore, and PAL territories earlier this month. Sony has also reported that software sales, via retail and PSN, now surpass 2 million units.
