Developer- and Publisher-specific Articles: Skylanders Giants
Skylander fans will be able to snag the upcoming character Ninjini before its official launch, and a few discounted figures as well, on February 5 at an event at Toys “R” Us Times Square. The festivities are in honor of the annual International Toy Fair, and in celebration, the first to line up will receive a free Ninjini figure. Those who show up later will still be able to participate in giveaways and a day-long sale, which includes $25 off a Giants Starter Pack and a ‘buy 2, get 1 free’ for figures. Characters will be on hand to greet attendees, and playable demos will be setup at kiosks.
It appears that the Skylanders craze continues unabated as Activision has revealed that the franchise has surpassed $500 million in retail sales. The figure includes all games, accessory packs, and figures sold in the U.S., and according to Activision, this milestone has been reached “faster than any other kids’ gaming property.” The latest title in the series, Skylanders Giants, has earned more than $195 million in the U.S. and was the best selling kids’ game of last year.
Gamers of all ages have made Toys for Bob’s Skylanders a hit, and for those who’ve been waiting for a new adventure, the wait is almost over. Activision has announced that the savior of many a parent’s sanity will return this Sunday with Skylanders Giants. The sequel will once again pit portal masters against the nefarious and stubbornly resilient Portal Master Kaos. Joining the original crew, who carry over all stats and customizations, are 16 new characters, including eight double-sized Giant Skylanders. The new Wow Pow system adds a new upgrade path for new and old Skylander alike—looks like it’s time to break out Trigger Happy.
