Ironclad Games’ 2008 hybrid RT4X—real-time, 4X strategy game—Sins of a Solar Empire received a new standalone expansion today, Rebellion. After years of war, the Trader Emergency Coalition, Vasari Empire, and Advent Unity have succumbed to the stress of their galaxy-spanning campaigns and fractured into loyalist and rebel factions. Players will be able to take control of one of these six subfactions as they research new technologies, forge new alliances, and construct new ships, including the monstrous Titan class.
It’s been a long time since I’ve sent my vast armadas to crush the enemies of the Unfortunately Named Website Empire. And it seems there has been an uprising in my absence! Ingrates! Fortunately, Stardock and Ironclad’s Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion will be available on June 12 for me to deliver my glorious retribution.
Ironclad’s 2008 galaxy-spanning real-time strategy title Sins of a Solar Empire has been lighting up the vacuum of space for years now, and it looks to have plenty of life in it. Stardock has sent along some new screenshots from the game’s upcoming download-only expansion Rebellion, which is due out later this year. Following on the previous two expansions, Rebellion is set after Diplomacy has failed and each side finds itself fractured in the face of a seemingly endless war that has strained nerves and resources to the breaking point.
Sins of a Solar Empire received a significant update today which includes not only bug fixes but also some tweaks to diplomacy. A sample of the changes have been included below, but first, a quick note: the update “will break save games and replays.” Be warned! On the upside, there are also interface changes, graphical touch-ups, and you might actually have a hand against those damn pirates now.
