Lost Planet 3 ships to retail for consoles, PC

Capcom has announced that Lost Planet 3 has shipped to retail for 360, PC, and PS3. The latest entry in the seven-year-old series finds players in the shoes of Utility Rig pilot and NEVEC employee Jim Peyton on the frozen planet of E.D.N. III. Tasked with mining the planet’s powerful Thermal Energy in order to stave off an energy crisis on Earth, players soon run into problems as the dangerous indigenous Akrids, tumultuous weather, and the planet’s colonial history force Peyton to fight for his life. Multiplayer is also supported for up to 10 players.

The Chaos Engine returning to PC on August 29

An updated version of The Bitmap Brothers’ hit 1990’s top-down shooter The Chaos Engine will be coming to Linux, Mac, and Windows PC on August 29. Mastertronic and Abstraction Games, the studio behind the Hotline Miami PS3 and PS Vita ports, worked in consultation with one of the founding members of The Bitmap Brothers, Mike Montgomery, to rebuild the game from the ground up. The new version will feature four worlds, a single-player campaign, online and local multiplayer modes, Enhanced and Classic modes, and Steam Achievements.

Contra: Evolution now available on App Store for iOS

Contra: Evolution, a reimagined take on the 1988 NES original, is now available on the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. As before, players must battle their way through the jungles of South America against suspiciously familiar aliens and their henchman in a bid to save the planet. Now, however, there are two more characters to choose from, bringing the roster up to four, and each has their own skill set. The announcement also noted that the North American version of Evolution was optimized and polished by original developer CocoaChina along with assistance from Konami.
