Doom multiplayer beta opening to all on April 15, DLC plans detailed

id Software is opening up the Doom multiplayer beta to everyone beginning April 15. Through April 17, players will be able to jump into the beta without a code and try out two modes—Team Deathmatch and Warpath—on Heatwave and Infernal. Post-launch content was also announced, and will come in the form of updates for SnapMap and multiplayer. For SnapMap, the game’s map-making and sharing suite, there are plans to release new AI enhancements, features, modules, objects, and props. Multiplayer will receive free game modes as well as for-pay packs. The latter will add new maps, hack modules, playable demons, and weapons beginning this summer. Each drop will cost $14.99 each or $39.99 as part of the Season Pass.

Gears of War 4 launching October 11, MP demo hitting April 18

Microsoft has announced that Gears of War 4 will be launching for Xbox One on October 11. The fourth entry will begin a new story arc with a new set of characters setting out to face an unknown enemy. The game is said to harken “back to the dark and intense roots of the original classic” and that “fans can expect a familiar, yet distinct evolution of gameplay.” To get the ball rolling, a multiplayer beta is set to kick off on April 18 for anyone who has played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10. The beta will then expand on April 25 to include all Live Gold members.

Bethesda has released a new live-action trailer for Doom. With apologies to The Rock, the one minute of the lone marine battling demons is better than the entirety of the 2005 film. The video’s release coincides with the launch of the closed multiplayer beta. The beta is ongoing for all systems and runs through April 3. To get beta players up to speed on the mechanics, id has created a playlist of gameplay videos.

Taito-themed DLC now available for Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours

Degica has announced that their Taito-themed DLC for Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours has gone live on Steam and PSN. Additionally, the Sega-themed packs are scheduled to launch on April 7. The Taito pack includes craft, remixed music, and levels from three different titles: Metal Black, Night Striker, and RayForce. The Sega pack will also feature craft, remixed music, and levels from three different games: Fantasy Star, Galaxy Force II, and Space Harrier. Note that downloadable ships are only playable in downloadable levels. The Taito drops are priced at $4.99 each or $11.99 for a bundle of all three.

Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta to open Versus for play in April

Gears of War 4’s multiplayer component will enter beta this April. Players who own Gears of War: Ultimate Edition for Windows 10 or Xbox One will being to receive tokens next month to access Versus, with the first wave of keys going out on April 18. The beta will run until May 1. Microsoft has also extended the qualification period. To qualify to receive a token, players need to log on to Xbox Live and play Ultimate Edition by 1 p.m. (CST) on April 11.

Cave shooter Deathsmiles blasts its way onto Steam

PC shooter fans are getting another heavy hitter from Degica today with the release of Deathsmiles. The popular Cave shooter has been available stateside for Xbox 360 since 2010, and its release on Steam marks its debut for PC. First-week buyers will receive a discount of 10% off as well as a download of the official soundtrack. The PC version supports local two-player co-op and sports five playable characters, six modes, and a nonlinear progression system.

Capcom has given a bit more detail about their upcoming action title Umbrella Corps. The previously announced One Life Match mode will be joined by Multi-Mission. The mode will pit two teams of up to six players total against one another out in a best of five three-minute rounds. Eight rulesets will cycle randomly, ranging from having to collect five briefcases to a variant of dog tags where players must collect data collars of downed allies and enemies. Degica has announced that they will be releasing the PC version of Cave’s Deathsmiles on March 10. Currently available for Xbox 360, Deathsmiles is a horizontal shooter that pits players, as angels, against the invading forces of Hell. The game features six modes, including Mega Black Label, five playable angels, branching paths, and support for local two-player co-op. The original soundtrack will also be included with the game for free during launch week.

Degica has announced a new trio of downloadable content add-ons for Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours. In addition to the three previously announced Taito-themed packs, the studio has revealed that three more will be added for various Sega shooters. The Sega set will include ships, levels, and remixed music based on Fantasy Zone, Galaxy Force II, and Space Harrier. The Taito packs, based on Metal Black, Night Striker, and RayForce, is scheduled to go live on March 17. The packs will be available individually for $4.99 or as three-pack bundles for $11.99.
