Sega will be resurrecting Mickey this summer with a new re-release of the classic platformer Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse. Originally released for the Genesis in 1990, Castle of Illusion quickly became a must-play game, with its tight controls, colorful visuals, and solid level design. The upcoming download-only release is a re-imaging by Sega Studios Australia that’s being built from scratch using the original as its foundation.

Project X Zone launching in June, LE announced, new media released

The upcoming crossover strategy role-playing game from Namco Bandai, Project X Zone, will be hitting store shelves on June 25. The coloration features over 50 characters from Capcom, Namco Bandai, and Sega franchises, including Street Fighter, Tekken, and Valkyria Chronicles, trying to seal a rift that’s merging their universes. Namco Bandai also announced that launch copies will be Limited Edition releases with a free mini-art book and soundtrack.

In addition to the campaign, multiplayer is also supported with four versus modes: Escape, Extermination, Survivor, and Team Deathmatch. Gamers interested in Sega and Gearbox’s upcoming xenomorph-y shooter Aliens: Colonial Marines will be able to snag all DLC at a discount, or score the first for free, courtesy of Walmart. With launch just a week away, gamers can purchase all DLC for %40 off, $29.99, with the Season One pass, which will include four packs that include new campaign and multiplayer content. The first pack can be snagged for free, however, by pre-ordering the game at Walmart. The first download, the multiplayer-centric, Horde-style Bug Hunt, will include three new maps and launch in March.

Sega confirms acquisition of Relic, Company of Heroes IP

Sega has confirmed THQ’s recent announcement that they have purchased all shares of THQ Canada Inc., better known as Relic Entertainment Studios, for $26.6 million. In addition to the team, Sega has also purchased some of THQ’s IPs, including, as verified by Eurogamer, Company of Heroes. The press release also noted the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series, but it didn’t specify whether its license was actually part of the sale. This latest purchase by Sega means that Relic will soon be under the same umbrella as another strategy-centric PC developer, Total War creators The Creative Assembly.

THQ announces results of asset sale, Crytek, Sega, Ubisoft buy

THQ has announced the results of their recent asset sale, and the details, which include the new homes of Homefront and Metro: Last Light, can be found below. In regards to what will be done with the acquired studios and properties, the company states that they expect “the new owners to extend employment to most employees and to continue development of the games they purchased that are currently in development.” All of those assets that were not sold, including Darksiders stewards Vigil Games, “will remain part of the Chapter 11 case.“ As of their announcement, the THQ estate will receive around $72 million and employee a small staff to assist during the transition period.
