MLB The Show makes its PS4 debut today with MLB 14 The Show, and it has also launched for PS3 and PS Vita. The latest in the premier baseball series includes Quick Counts to reduce the amount of time necessary to play a nine-inning game, Player Lock to focus on one player and their position, and the ability to import saves from previous entries. In addition, Sony notes that there are over 50 other new features and improvements.

Sony will be releasing new updates tomorrow for PS4, PS App, and PS Vita. The latter updates are largely for improving integration with the PS4, which will itself be receiving a host of new features and long-awaited improvements. A breakdown of each is available below, but PS4 gamers can now look forward to being able to capture gameplay on external devices, edit gameplay footage on the system itself, download pre-ordered games in advance, use voice commands with PS Camera, and easier, improved sorting options for Friends and Trophies.

PlayStation 4 passes 7 million sold, software sales pass 20.5 million

Sony announced earlier today that the PS4 has passed another milestone with news that over 7 million units have been sold as of April 6. On the software side, over 20.5 million copies have been sold in stores and online through the PS Store as of April 13. The system passed the 6-million-sales mark in hardware and 13-million-sales mark in software just this last month. A list of the 120 titles slated for release this year has also been posted online at PlayStation Blog.

Infamous returns today with the release of the PS4-exclusive entry Second Son. Sucker Punch’s latest action title follows Delsin Rowe, a 24-year-old who has recently discovered that he can harness powerful abilities. Players must battle an increasingly despotic government around the city of Seattle, which features actual businesses and popular landmarks. The engine will also render rain, dynamic lighting, and progress through a day-and-night cycle. As in the previous titles, players will be able to choose between being good and evil, with each path offering unique missions, story sequences, and upgrades.

Sony debuts Project Morpheus VR headset for PS4 at GDC 2014

The Oculus Rift’s competition is getting stiffer with the announcement that Sony is entering the VR fray with a new headset, Project Morpheus. No release date was announced, but the headset will work alongside the PlayStation Camera to give PS4 gamers the feeling “as though they are physically inside the virtual world of a game.” Inertial sensors within the camera and headset will track head rotation so that the game world moves naturally with the player’s motions, and the set will also support the PS Move Motion Controller, with the headset projecting an object in place of the controller. The Morpheus will also use 3D audio technology to produce sounds on the same plane as well as above and below the player.

PlayStation 4 sales surpass 6 million in hardware, 13 in software

After selling 370,000 units in Japan since its launch on February 22, the PlayStation 4 has passed the 6-million-unit mark, according to a new announcement from Sony. In addition, PS Plus is also increasing in numbers, as according to the release, “in addition to existing members, more than half of PS4 owners are enjoying the benefits of PS Plus.” On the software side, Killzone: Shadow Fall has now sold over 2.1 million copies worldwide, while general software sales have reached over 13.7 million sales in stores and through PS Store for all available games.

Ellie returns to the beginning today in The Last of Us: Left Behind

Fans of The Last of Us can see what happened to Ellie before she met Joel today in a new single-player downloadable prologue, Left Behind. The Naughty Dog-developed add-on explores Ellie’s relationship with her friend Riley as the two attend school in the Boston quarantine zone and later decide whether to stay in the zone or join the Fireflys. Despite being set before The Last of Us, you’re going to want to finish it before playing Left Behind. And if you haven’t played The Last of Us yet, go ahead and free up a weekend and get to it.

Slimmer PS Vita coming to North America in Borderlands 2 bundle

The slimmer, OLED-less model of the PS Vita released last October in Japan will be making its way to North America this spring. The PCH-2000 series has 1 GB of internal memory, an additional hour of battery life, and is also around 20 percent slimmer and 15 percent lighter than the model currently for sale. The unit will be sold alongside Borderlands 2 (with six DLC packs) and an 8 GB memory card as part of the $199.99 Borderlands 2 Limited Edition Bundle.

Sony reveals cloud-based streaming, rental service PS Now

Sony has announced PlayStation Now, the Gaiki-powered streaming service that will use cloud technology to allow players access to PS3 games on their PS3, PS4, PS Vita, and Bravia TVs. The service is scheduled to go live first for PS4 this summer and later for the rest of the Sony family, including eight models of the 2014 Bravia TV line (KDL-R400B is the exception). Sony plans to eventually expand the service further to include non-Sony products, allowing gamers to “enjoy instant access to a game wherever there’s Wi-Fi connectivity” along with seamless transition between devices. The service will feature the ability to rent specific titles or subscribe for access to the library. There will be online multiplayer and trophy support. For those curious about the system’s integration with the current setup, the PS Blog responded to a community question that the PS Store will continue to offer downloadable titles in addition to PS Now’s streaming services.

Gran Turismo 6 earns its final license, now in stores, online for PS3

Sony has launched Gran Turismo 6 for PS3. Polyphony Digital continues to drive—rimshot, please—the franchise, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The latest release includes 37 tracks and over 1,200 cars, 120 of which are new additions. Seven venues make their debut, including Silverstone Circuit, Ascari Race Resort, Goodwood Hillclimb, and Willow Springs International Raceway, as well as Acura’s NSX concept car. The camo version of BMW’s M4 Coupe will also be be introduced to the series, but at a later date as part of a free update.
