Reinforce the ramparts! Stronghold Crusader 2 delayed three weeks

Stronghold Crusader 2 is being bumped back from September 2 to September 23. Firefly Studios announced that the real-time strategy title will be given a few more weeks of development time after the closed beta highlighted that some additional time would be needed for “extra polish, optimization and bug fixes,” according to studio creative director Simon Bradbury. Veteran strategy fans will remember Crusader as the spin-off to the original Stronghold, a unique castle-defending strategy title released in 2001, which featured Frank and Saracen forces squaring off in a series of famous encounters, including the Siege of Antioch and the Siege of Jerusalem.

Kalypso to publish Gaming Mind’s new RTS, Grand Ages: Medieval

Kalypso has added a new real-time strategy title to their line-up, Gaming Mind Studios’ Grand Ages: Medieval. The game’s official debut will be behind closed doors at this year’s gamescom, but Kalypso did reveal several details. Players will take on the role of a mayor governing a small European settlement in the year 1050. The village sits in a large world, around 30 million square kilometers, within which players can expand their realm and solidify their hold on power by conquering new territories, founding new cities, building trade networks, and researching new technology. Disasters, including fires, droughts, and plagues, will add an element of randomness to keep would-be kings on their toes. Multiplayer will also be supported for up to eight players.

Company of Heroes 2 DLC and free maps released, original patched

Relic’s Turning Point campaign to provide additional content for Company of Heroes 2 continues today with the release of the Theater of War pack Southern Fronts as well as a general update. The patch includes bug fixes and gameplay tweaks, two free maps (Hill 331 and Don River), and the ability to upload user-created World Builder maps to Steam’s Workshop. The original Company of Heroes is also being updated with new Steam functionality, such as secure leaderboards and servers for battle and arbitration. Eugen pivots to Asia with new Wargame Red Dragon screens

Eugen System has released a handful of new screenshots from the next entry in the Wargame series, Red Dragon. According to the release, the images reveal the models for the Z-9A helicopter as well as the HQ-7, Type-95, and Type-63 air-defense units. In addition to 450-plus new units, some of which being the series’ first naval and amphibian units, Red Dragon will also introduce five new nations, including China and North Korea .

After announcing a free download earlier this week for Company of Heroes 2, Sega has revealed a new for-pay download set to launch next week. The upcoming release, Victory at Stalingrad, will be available on November 12 for $9.99 as part of the Turning Point update. The drop will include one Co-Op Scenario, Kalach Pincer; two Solo Challenges, Tatsinskaya Raid and Bridge Defense; and three AI Battles, Stalingrad Encirclement, Stalingrad Resistance, and Winter Storm. Details for each are posted below. Also available in Turning Point are premium commanders for $2.99 and skins for $1.99.

Company of Heroes 2 getting map editor, maps, more next week

Sega will be releasing a free update for Relic’s Company of Heroes 2 next week. The studio announced that the pack, Turning Point, will go live on November 12 and include the World Builder multiplayer map editor, two new multiplayer maps (Rails and Metal, Lazur Factory), public chat lobbies, and two new multiplayer commanders for each faction. Relic will be demoing the new maps on their Twitch TV channel tomorrow, and the World Builder on the following day.

Eugen Systems is taking their Wargame series into Asia with their next release, Red Dragon. The upcoming real-time strategy title will be set between 1975 and 1991 and feature five new nations, including China and North Korea, as well as an increased emphasis on naval and amphibious units. Over 450 new units are planned, along with a new single-player campaign and multiplayer battles with support for up to 20 players. Three new screens were released to give a glimpse at what virtual generals can look forward to.

Company of Heroes 2 received its first Theater of War single-player and co-op content update, Case Blue. Available today on Steam, the mini-pack features a campaign based on a real German operation undertaken on the Eastern Front in 1942 that includes two new solo challenges, two new AI battles, and a new co-op scenario. Two free maps are also being released in a new patch to support the release of Case Blue: Rostov, a large-scale map for up to six players, and Kharkov, a smaller map with a focus on close-quarters fighting.
