Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment now on PSN for PS Vita

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, the MMORPG-styled adaptation of the manga and anime series of the same name, has launched on PSN for PS Vita. Players can start on Floor 76 of Aincrad and fight to free themselves in Hollow Fragment or from the beginning with an HD version of the game’s predecessor, Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment. Players can also team up with up to three other adventurers via ad-hoc multiplayer. A free downloadable costume pack launched today as well and will be available through November 18. Buyers can also look forward to a downloadable content pack slated to hit PSN next month.

Dimensions collide once more, Tales of Xillia 2 now available for PS3

Role-playing fans are getting the chance to continue last year’s excellent Tales of Xillia storyline today with Tales of Xillia 2. The sequel is set a few years after the events of the original and follows the adventures of cooking enthusiast Ludger Kresnik and his new friend Elle Marta. The element of choice is being expanded this time around, with characters, including party members, reacting differently depending on how Ludger handles various conversations and interactions, which will open new progression paths. Players can also quickly choose which of three weapons they wish to use during combat by initiating a Weapon Swap as well as call in allies using the new Cross Dual Raid Linear Motion Battle System. Also, fans who have save files from Tales of Graces f or the first Xillia will receive bonus items, while owners of costume DLC for Xillia will be able to access the gear in Xillia 2.

In it, players take on the role of a game reviewer who is attending a launch event, where they will get to chat it up with other writers, the developers, and also play through select portions of the game. After finishing the game, the player will then be able to write about their experience and score the game, which will both determine the game’s success and be shared with other players. Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment to get content update, free DLC

Bandai Namco has announced a free DLC Costume Pack for their upcoming MMO-styled role-playing game Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment. The promotion is slated to run from launch until November 18 and will net gamers a dress shirt, nightie, school swimsuit, and wedding dress. These items will not be available in any other pack after the promotion ends. An extensive content update was also detailed, which will go live on September 23 and introduce a host of (free) changes, including a higher level cap, from 200 to 250, new bosses, new weapons and armor, new quests, and 50 new Hollow missions. Lastly, fans of the anime and manga can look forward to meeting Alberich and Heathcliff.

Available for Android devices, iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, DQIV marks the beginning of the Zenithian Trilogy and features a novel progression design that has gamers play as each companion shortly before and up to when they meet up with the Hero, who then takes the lead in the final chapter. The mobile version allows for camera rotation via screen sliding as well as adds Party Talk, which allows players to talk with others during the journey, and an extra chapter.

The strategy-RPG series Tears to Tiara will make its official North American debut with Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord. Fighting fans might recognize the name from Aquapazza: Aquaplus Dream Match, the Examu-developed crossover brawler also published by Atlus, but Heir of the Overlord marks the first time the series has had a full localized release. Atlus is translating the text to English but noted that they are leaving the Japanese audio as it is. The campaign is said to last over 80 hours, mixing turn-based combat with visual-novel-style storytelling elements. The plot is … unique: Hamilcar Barca, father of the famous Hannibal, throws off the yoke of the Divine Empire and sets out on a path of revenge to retake the kingdom of Hispania, guided by a goddess and harnessing the strength of a malevolent demon that awakens within him.

Conspiracies abound in new episodic RPG Majestic Nights

A new conspiracy-theory-themed role-playing game has been announced from Epiphany Games. Majestic Nights is an episodic thriller set in an alternate 1980s where all conspiracy theories are actually true. Players will take on the role of a Cardholder, an intelligence operative who has had a hand in some of the most well-known conspiracies, and as Cal, a downtrodden private investigator who has a mysterious past. The game is described as having “fast, light mechanics” and “an over-the-top 1980s aesthetic,” with the goal being for players to gather details about each conspiracy and connect the dots.
