Watch four minutes of The Surge’s gory, methodical combat

Deck 13 has released four minutes of gameplay from their upcoming action role-playing game The Surge. The unedited footage features a bloody combat system that results in dismemberment and disembowelment while also emphasizing a slow pace. The player explores a facility overrun by cybernetic enemies, both those built for combat and others that are failed experiments with nano-technology. The system forces players to make a choice to either aim for an enemy’s vulnerable spot to secure victory or try to preserve them, prolonging the battle but also making it possible to attain their equipment after the battle.

Persona 5 gets fancy with Haru Okumura, actor actor interviewed

Persona 5’s latest reveal, Haru Okumura, is said to be the rebellious daughter of a rich businessman. After a strict upbringing, she has shed a life of wealth and rigid routines to hang out with her friends. As Noir, she seeks justice and a better world with the Phantom Thieves. As before, a video interview with the character’s voice actor, Xanthe Huynh, has been posted below the character trailer.

Velvet goes on the hunt in new trailer for Tales of Berseria

Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for Tales of Berseria. The video features protagonist Velvet Crowe as she pursues her quest of vengeance against her enemies. PC and PS4 players wanting to follow up on what they see will get a chance to play the game ahead of its release with a demo scheduled to go live on January 10.

Nier: Automata to get playable demo for PS4 on December 22

Players who have been waiting for the long-awaited follow-up to Nier, Nier: Automata, will be able to try it themselves on December 22. Square Enix has announced that a playable demo will be going live that finds the attack android 2B searching an abandoned factory for a weapon that she needs to destroy. There was no word on a possible PC demo.

Heroes rise in South Park: The Fractured But Whole trailer

Ubisoft has released a new video for the upcoming South Park role-playing game The Fractured But Whole. Superhero personas are born as the cast don their costumes, unleash their powers, and form a super group in order to save the universe. The sequel is set to offer more freedom than in The Stick of Truth, along with additional customization options, a new combat system, and revamped systems for looting and crafting.

Persona 5’s party-boosting hacker Futaba Sakura introduced

The Phantom Thieves’ hacker, Futaba Sakura, is getting her time to shine in a new character trailer. The socially awkward dropout is a recluse who now serves as the group’s navigator. Futaba, under the codename Oracle, guides the crew to their destination or, if things go south, an escape route. She also provides moral support that buffs her teammates during combat. As with the previous reveals, the character’s voice actor, Erica Lindbeck, is also interviewed in a separate video.

Persona 5 digital pre-orders up, Story and Confidant trailers released

Atlus has sent word that digital pre-orders are now live for Persona 5. As a bonus, early digital buyers receive the dynamic Protagonist Special Theme & Avatar Set. Pre-orders also come with in-game DLC, the Izanagi & Izanagi Picaro Set Persona, who makes a return from Persona 4 in the flesh and as a themed dress for Picaro. Details were also revealed about several Confidants, characters who form a bond with the party and will lend them a hand. Three of them are detailed below, and star in their own trailers.

PSX 2016 – Bandai Namco: Ace Combat 7, Ni No Kuni II

Final Fantasy XV sells digitally, ships to retail 5-million-plus units

Square Enix has sent the celebratory word that Final Fantasy XV has shipped physically and sold digitally over five million units globally. The release marks the first time that a Final Fantasy has been released simultaneously around the world. The studio also noted that they they “will continue to work on projects to expand and enhance customer enjoyment of Final Fantasy XV, releasing additional content and associated series products.”

Final Fantasy XV launches in store, online for PS4 and Xbox One

Square Enix has released the long-awaited fifteenth entry in the mainline Final Fantasy series today. The delayed release is being described as the “next evolution of the world renowned video game series, featuring visceral action-packed battles, a fantasy world based in reality, and colossal wonders to behold.” Players take on the role of Crown Prince Noctis, as he and his friends go on a quest within the lands of Eos to discover his destiny amidst an ongoing war with the Niflheim empire.
