Persona 5 to be released February 14, special editions detailed

Persona fans can finally rest easy, Atlus has announced the release date for Persona 5. The game will launch on February 14 as two special version: a first-run SteelBook Launch Edition and as the “Take Your Heart” Premium Edition. The $89.99 premium version will come packed with goodies: a 4-inch plushie of Phantom Thieves member and unofficial mascot Morgana, Japanese-style school bag modeled after those worn by students at Shujin Academy, soundtrack CD, 64-page hardcover art book with work from character designer Shigenori Soejima (who will also be at their E3 booth), the launch edition’s SteelBook case, and a massive collector’s box. Stranger of Sword City now available on Steam for Windows PC

Experience Inc.’s dungeon-crawling role-playing game Stranger of Sword City has launched for Windows PC. After waking up in a strange realm, players must harvest powerful crystals and decide which of the ruling factions deserves them as they try to find their way home. The Steam version also features a new mode, Picture Gate, which allows players to upload images to be used as in-game characters.

World of Final Fantasy dated for October 25, trailer, screens released

Square Enix has announced that World of Final Fantasy will be available on October 25 for PS4 and PS Vita. Coinciding with the news is the release of a new localized trailer, which shows more of the escapades of twins Reynn and Lann. In the game, the duo will explore Grymoire in search of a cure to their amnesia. Along the way, they will fight monsters so that they can capture and raise them. The game is said to combine “classic RPG gameplay mechanics with fresh and imaginative toy-like visuals to welcome both fans and newcomers to the series.”

North America will be getting an updated version of the previously import-only Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System. The PS4 exclusive will be available next year, and feature improved visuals, with remastered characters and cutscenes, 7.1 surround sound, shortened load times, a new soundtrack with an option to switch back to the original, and a new trial mode of 100 back-to-back battles. The Zodiac Job System is a 12-job progression system that was exclusive to the international version.

GOG launches GOG Connect to link supported Steam titles

GOG has introduced GOG Connect, a new feature to link Steam versions of certain titles to their service. The feature adds DRM-free versions of the games to the user’s library, along with digital extras, and the option to use GOG Galaxy or a standalone installer. The release notes that “these are limited-time opportunities from participating developers and publishers, with more to come.” Some of those studios include Deep Silver, TaleWorlds, and Harebrained Schemes. To kick things off, select supported titles, including System Shock 2 and The Witness, are available for up to 85% off until June 6. Check out a list of some of the supported titles below.

The Dark Brotherhood has moved into Tamriel. The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited’s new expansion adds the pugnacious assassins, along with a passive skill line, repeatable bounty quests, contract kills, sacrament quests, and two cities, Anvil and Kvatch. A new storyline finds the guild on the defensive as they seek to find a black-armored warrior that is tracking down and killing their members.

Blood and Wine, the second downloadable pack for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has gone live. Geralt of Rivia’s final adventure takes him to Toussaint, a new, remote area that has been saved from the recent turmoils but is currently being stalked by a murderous beast. Geralt’s assignment is to take down the monster in a quest that’s estimated to last over 30 hours and feature new monsters, weapons, gear, and plot lines.

Piranha Bytes debuts pre-alpha footage of upcoming RPG ELEX

Gothic creator Piranha Bytes is working on a new open-world role-playing game, ELEX. Coinciding with the announcement is the launch of the official website and reveal trailer, linked and posted below, which offer an early look at what the studio will be bringing to this year’s E3. The action-heavy role-playing game will be set in a post-apocalyptic world that mixes science fiction and fantasy. The design will revolve around player agency and consequence with “interesting characters, mutant creatures, deep moral choices and thrilling action.”

The character design to Logic Artists’ Expeditions: Viking is being highlighted in a new video by art director August Hansen. In the upcoming historical role-playing game, players take up the banner of their dead parent, a village elder, as their son or daughter. The short two-minute-long feature delves into some of the research and motivations behind the look of the characters, and it shows a bit of the character-creation system. There’s also a peek at a few of the authentic outfits.

Atlus has released a new story trailer for Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, and revealed that the game will have retailer-exclusive downloadable content. The video brings players up to speed on the protagonist’s death, resurrection, and subsequent allegiance to his newfound benefactor, Dagda, a god whose role in the ongoing war between Merkabah and Lucifer remains unclear. A few pictures also offer a look at the GameStop/EB Games red-and-black Power Suit, the Amazon packaging-themed Prime Suit, the Best Buy uniform-inspired Retail Hero jumpsuit.
