PC gamers can now step in the shoes of newly mutated veteran James Heller and help him stop an army of beasts from overrunning New York City in Prototype 2. All launch and pre-ordered digital copies of the PC version include free access to the RadNet Edition content, which includes over 55 challenges, events, and reward items.
Prototype 2 somehow got more violent with the recently launched Excessive Force DLC pack. The 400 MS Point/$4.99 release, available for 360 and PS3, includes three new skins (one for Heller and two for Mercer), four multiplier powers, and one new weapon.
The first round of Prototype 2’s post-launch DLC packs have been detailed. Two drops are scheduled for May, with the first, the Colossal Mayhem pack, available today. The second release, Excessive Force, will hit Live and PSN on May 29. Both packs, detailed below, are priced at 400 MS Points/$4.99 apiece and add new skins, weapons, and force multiplier powers.
Alex Mercer is back on the run today with the release of Prototype 2 for the 360 and PS3. Set 14 months after the original, Prototype 2 shifts the story to follow Sgt. James Heller in his hunt for the man who brought so much mayhem to his friends and family: you. Well, Alex Mercer. In keeping with the recent trend of using single-use passes, launch copies are Radnet Editions that have access to 55 pieces of free content, which will launch online over the next seven weeks. The extras include themes, making-of videos, avatar items, and in-game events and challenges.
It looks like retailers are itching to get in on the Prototype 2 pre-order action. Amazon and Best Buy have both announced that gamers who pre-order a copy for the 360 or PS3 before launch on April 24, or PC before its release on July 24, will receive extra items. Amazon is giving away a code to access the first issue of Dark Horse’s Prototype 2 prequel comic, The Anchor. Best Buy, who already announced a Hardened Steel Vehicle Armor upgrade, will be taking the steel theme even further with an exclusive steelbook case.
Prototype 2 will be receiving the collector’s edition treatment when it ships out on April 24. The recently announced Radnet Edition, which comprises the initial launch copies, will make up a portion of what’s included with the Blackwatch Collector’s Edition. The limited $79.99 set will also come with a hardbound art book; a copy of the Dark Horse digital comic Prototype: The Labyrinth; the official soundtrack; free access to the first DLC Pack, Colossal Mayhem, due out in May; and a 20% discount voucher at the Merchandise Store.
Activision has announced that early adopters of Radical Entertainments upcoming action title Prototype 2 for the 360 and PS3 will receive access to Radnet, a service that will provide owners with 55 bits of DLC. Available through a single-use pass, Radnet will deliver behind-the-scenes videos, in-game events and challenges, avatar items, dynamic themes, and bonus Mutations to players on a weekly basis for seven weeks. Participants in the challenges and events will also unlock a to-be-announced shape-shifting reward. More information on the Radnet Edition is available on the official site.
A new GameStop-exclusive pre-order bonus has been announced for Prototype 2. The extra is an in-game addition this time around, an enhanced move for protagonist Sgt. James Heller. The curiously named Bio-Bomb Butt Kicker ability is a tweaked version of the regular viral-powered Bio-Bomb move that players will be able to unlock during the course of the game. The upgraded attack will allow Heller to drop-kick infected enemies across the map, causing them to crash into or fall down on and damage enemies.
A new, free Prototype-themed iOS game dubbed ProtoSlice has launched on the App Store. Co-created with Slice HD developer TwitchGames, ProtoSlice introduces players to the upcoming sequel’s protagonist, Sgt. James Heller. Described as a “visceral scare puzzler,” Sgt. Heller’s blade arm is used to hack away at players’ fingers as they try to slide away blocking blades in order to reach a panic button.
