Launch trailer kicks off upcoming release of The Surge

A week out from release, and Deck13 has a new launch trailer prepped and ready to go for The Surge. Players get another look at Warren, an unfortunate new hire at the megacorporation CREO who finds himself fighting for survival against killer robots. The upside is that those same robots can be repurposed to his benefit, as their severed limbs serve as upgrades to his exosuit.

Morrowind’s politics highlighted in ‘Assassins and Great Houses’

Bethesda has released a trailer highlighting the down-and-dirty politics that dominate Morrowind in The Elder Scrolls Online. In Assassins and Great Houses, players get a look at the intrigue that takes place throughout Vvardenfell, which will require them to work with several factions. In particular, they will have to balance their relationships with the three houses that dominate the realm: House Hlaalu, House Redoran, and House Telvanni.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies Chronicles overview video up

A new trailer has gone live for the recently announced Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies Chronicles. The latest video features an overview of the gameplay from the upcoming compilation. Chronicles is set to bring together eight maps from a variety of Treyarch-developed titles, complete with updated graphics and the ability to use weapons from throughout the series.

Behold! Birthdays the Beginning released for PC, PS4

NIS has released their god-game-like evolution sim Birthdays the Beginning. As a benevolent guide, players terraform a cube-shaped world to manipulate its weather and geography in order to create an ecosystem that shifts the evolution of its flora and fauna. Macro and micro modes allow for planet-wide and specific changes, while the ability to save the genetic makeup of creatures allows players to choose when and where to introduce specific animals. To celebrate the game’s release, two free decorative downloadable items will go live tomorrow, Boxasaurus Rex and Crashed UFO. Upcoming for-pay drops include eight bundles and two individual pieces, though their contents were unspecified.

Retro-styled first-person shooter Strafe out now on Steam, PSN

Pixel Titans’ procedurally generated first-person shooter Strafe has been released for Mac, PC, and PS4. Published by Devolver Digital, the shooter, billed as “the much anticipated megahit video game from 1996,” features an arsenal of over 30 weapons, 20-plus enemy types, four zones, and compatibility with Oculus Rift. And pixelated gore. A lot of pixelated gore.

Treyarch reveals Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies Chronicles

Fans of the Zombies mode in Call of Duty will soon find a different kind of offering on Live, PSN, and Steam. Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies Chronicles will include eight maps across the Treyarch-developed entries (World at War, Black Ops, and Black Ops II). The maps are being “completely remastered from the ground-up, delivering many of the classic, thrilling Zombies origins storylines with stunning visuals, enhanced audio and new gameplay, all updated for today’s generation of consoles.” AI is also said to be undergoing an update. Additionally, players will be able to use custom weapons, including guns found in Black Ops III, across all of the maps: Nacht der Untoten (Abandoned Bunker), Verruckt (Wittenau Sanitorium), and Shi No Numa (Jungle Swamp) from World at War; Kino Der Toten (Theater of the Dead), Ascension (Soviet Cosmodrome), Shangri-la (Exotic Jungle Shrine), and Moon (Lunar Base) from Black Ops; and Origins (WWI France) from Black Ops II.

Talos I calls! Prey now available for console, PC

Prey returns today, courtesy of Arkane Studios. Bethesda Softworks picked up the dormant series after its sequel found itself stuck in development, and they found a new home for it with the creators of the Dishonored series. The result is a new take on the story, with players taking on the role of Morgan Yu, who awakens from cryosleep to find themselves on board the space station Talos 1. Yu realizes that they were the subject of strange experiments, which will come in handy, as a hostile alien force has overrun the station. With a mixture of shooter and light role-playing mechanics, players decide which of the alien powers to use, and how they will engage with other characters, as they attempt to find answers as well as stop the invaders.

Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma headed to PS4 this fall

PS4 owners recently got the backstory of the Zero Escape series with The Nonary Games bundle, and now, Aksys is looking to round out the trilogy for them. A graphically updated re-release of Spike Chunsoft’s visual novel Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma is scheduled to make its way digitally and physically to PS4 this fall. The follow-up to Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Virtue’s Last Reward continues the formula of narrative-driven puzzle solving, as players attempt to work out brain teasers and plot twists alike.

Piranha Bytes introduces Elex’s The Berserkers in new trailer

The Berserkers are getting a proper introduction in a new faction trailer for Elex. The group shuns technology in favor of Medieval-era technology and magic, making them one of the stranger groups in Magalan. They can transmute Elex into Mana, which allows them to transform the world’s wastes into thriving woodlands. From their capital city, they plant their seeds to bring life back to the planet. Space Hulk: Deathwing gets free content, console bound this fall

Space Hulk: Deathwing is heading towards consoles later this year, and to get things started, Streum On Studio has released the Special Missions Update for PC. Scheduled to launch this fall, the Enhanced Edition for PS4 and Xbox One will feature all of the new content and features that PC players will receive through free downloads. The first of those updates goes live today, adding Special Missions to multiplayer. These are available in Chapter 1 and are slated to be added to every chapter, offering randomly generated mission sequences and Genestealer spawns. Future updates will add new enemies, weapons, skills, multiplayer classes, and multiplayer progression system along with loot and class customization.
