Four-player brawler Paperbound now available for PC, PS4

Dissident Logic’s chaotic brawler Paperbound has been released for PC and PS4. Described as a “smash-up brawler that combines platforming, twitchy combat, and gravity redirection in a competitive couch multiplayer setting,” up to four players compete in enclosed arenas with 360 degrees of freedom as one of 11 characters. While the main characters are from books, others are from a variety of other titles, with fighters from Guacamelee!, VVVVVV, and Monaco. AI bots fill in any slots not assigned to other players, each with their own personality and playstyle; the studio also states that the AI will adapt to the player’s skill level.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles Trilogy to go to China, India, and Russia

Ubisoft has announced the next three titles in the Assassin’s Creed line, and all will be released as part of the Chronicles trilogy. Each release will follow a different assassin in a 2.5D adventure, with the first entry set to take players to China on April 21. The characters are from other properties within the franchise, from the animated short Assassin’s Creed Embers (Shao Jun) and graphic novels (Arbaaz Mir, Nikolaï Orelov). The trilogy will be tied together, but each game will not only adopt its own art style but also be set in different periods, including the Ming dynasty, Sikh Empire, and shortly after the Red October revolution.

The Shaolin Monks return in new Mortal Kombat X trailer

NetherRealm has released new footage from Mortal Kombat X. The latest trailer, Shaolin, features three characters, returning combatants Kung Lao and Liu Kang along with newcomer Kung Jin. Series fans might remember that things didn’t end well for some of the older characters in MK9, and the new video shows that the deceased have returned to the arena under the control of their old enemy Shinnok.

PlayStation 4 Yukimura update to add features, accessibility options

Sony has announced that they are prepping the next update for PS4. Update version 2.50, codenamed Yukimura, is scheduled to go live on March 26 and is set to add a number of features. Some of the additions include Suspend/Resume, allowing players to pause their game by putting the system into Rest Mode and resuming by pressing the PlayStation button on the controller; the ability to back-up data onto an external USB drive, such as game saves, settings, screenshots, patches, and video clips; and improved accessibility options, with functions to zoom, and invert colors along with enlarged text and text-to-speech for the interface, apps, and browser. The new visibility options will not apply to games or third-party apps, though they will be added to PS Vita and mobile devices via PS App in their own respective updates whenever Yukimura is released.

FromSoftware’s latest action-RPG Bloodborne out now for PS4

FromSoftware’s follow-up to Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne, is now available for PS4. The system exclusive sports a similar tone and atmosphere to the Souls series, once again pitting players against hordes of monsters in a foreboding land filled with danger. This time, players must venture through the city of Yharnam in the midst of a deadly outbreak that has led to the streets being filled with crazed citizens and strange monsters, as well as into a constantly changing labyrinth known as the Chalice Dungeon. Combat is a bit different this time around, though, as guns can now be used, which fits nicely with the new Victorian Era theme.

The Crew demo up for PS4, tomorrow for Xbox One, update, DLC out

Ubisoft has released a demo of their MMO-styled racer The Crew today for PS4 and another scheduled to go live tomorrow for Xbox One. The demo is playable for two hours and allows players to transfer their progress to the full version. Launching alongside the demo is the $6.99 Vintage Car Pack, which includes the Chevrolet Corvette C2, Chevrolet Corvette C3 and Spyker C8 Aileron, as well as the Vintage Live Update. The update adds new missions, customization options. and player-versus-player mode. Details are available below.

Dragon Age: Inquisition – Jaws of Hakkon debuts for PC, Xbox One

New single-player downloadable content is now available for Dragon Age: Inquisition, the Jaws of Hakkon. The $14.99 add-on, available first for PC and Xbox One as a timed exclusive, supplements the original game with a new story arc surrounding the last Inquisitor’s quest to hunt down a dragon. Players will be able to explore a new area, Thedas, as well as acquire new legendary armor and weapons.

Batman: Arkham Knight now launching June 23, plus gameplay trailer

Rocksteady has rescheduled the worldwide launch for Batman: Arkham Knight from June 2 to June 23. To tide series fans over, a new, nearly eight-minute-long gameplay trailer was released. Titled Officer Down, the video follows Batman as he glides and zips around Gotham, engaging thugs in melee combat (for a 30-hit combo), saving injured officers, and destroying rides in the Batmobile. The footage was captured directly from the PS4 version.

Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition extras detailed, new screens, trailer

Capcom has released some new details from their upcoming Devil May Cry 4 re-release, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition. Scheduled to launch this summer for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, Special Edition will include the original game, three new playable characters (Lady, Trish, and Vergil), the original PC version’s wave-based Legendary Dark Knight Mode, support for 1080p at 60fps, as well as new costumes and skins. During the campaign, players will be able to complete Dante’s missions as Trish and Nero’s as Lady, while Vergil will have new moves and an updated look from his appearance in Devil May Cry 3. A new trailer and set of screenshots were also released; the screens are available below.

Black Forest goes speedrunning in Giana Sisters: Dream Runners

The Giana Sisters will be returning this summer in a new game designed around speedrunning. Black Forest Games is looking to have PC, PS4, and Xbox One players zipping around with friends and strangers this summer in Giana Sisters: Dream Runners, a new competitive multiplayer side-scroller. Up to four players will be able to select from five different characters, each with special abilities, to go head to head local or online, collecting gems and other power-ups as they dodge obstacles and other hazards in order to finish the stage first.
