After some recent speculation, Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be available on September 1 for console and September 15 for PC. It was also announced that the game will be available as a $59.99 Day 1 Edition or, for PS4 and Xbox One, a $99.99 Collector’s Edition. The Day 1 Edition will come with downloadable items, including a special cardboard box and a silver personal ballistic shield, while the Collector’s Edition will come packed with access to more DLC as well as a collectible steelbook, a behind-the-scenes Blu-ray, and half-scale replica of Snake’s bionic arm. Grand Theft Auto Online to get new modes with Heists update

Rockstar has revealed the new content additions that are set to go live with Heists next week for GTA Online. The online component will receive additional Daily Objectives, Free Mode Activities, and new Adversary Modes. The latter will unlock as players clear Heists, and include Come Out To Play, with three runners trying to make it home before hunters track them down; Siege Mentality, which pits four defenders against six attackers; and Hasta La Vista, a race between cyclists and homicidal truckers. A new universal email notification system will also be implemented, allowing players to reach friends in other sessions, in addition to new Awards and rewards.

Epic Games drops subscription model, Unreal Engine 4 now free

Epic Games has made Unreal Engine 4, the current build as well as subsequent updates, free to download. The studio is dropping their previous subscription model of $19 a month in favor of a small royalty to be paid once a sales threshold has been reached. Once a game or application has been shipped, “developers pay a 5% royalty on gross revenue after the first $3,000 per product, per quarter.” According to Epic founder and CEO Tim Sweeney, “whatever your development aspirations, Epic stands with you, both as a technology provider, and as a fellow game developer counting on UE4 to power our own games.” Sweeney’s full blog post about the company’s decision to move away from the subscription model can be found here. EA announces, details Battlefield Hardline Premium Edition

EA released details about a Premium Edition of Visceral Games’ upcoming shooter Battlefield Hardline. The membership program offers monthly rewards, access to exclusive events, special items, two weeks early access to the game’s four story-themed digital expansion packs, and new content. The new content is a mixture of features and stat-boosting items and includes Competitive Play, Gun Bench, Masks, and Legendary Status. The full list of all the extras is available below.

New Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin video debuts Forlorn NPC

A new gameplay trailer has gone live for Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. The latest footage showcases the new NPC invader, the Forlorn. The video runs a little over three minutes and shows what players have come to expect from Dark Souls II: pain. Beset by regular enemies, a player desperately tries to get the upper hand as the Forlorn closes in and proceeds to harass them throughout the encounter.

Spring Fever PlayStation Store Event offers discounts, new games

Sony has announced their plans for this year’s Spring Fever PlayStation Store event. The eight-week-long promo will feature additional discounts for PS Plus members and general discounts for everyone. While some of the bigger franchises will be included in the sale, such as Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty, and God of War, the new titles, set to launch one per week, are especially interesting. Some of the highlights are the PS4 version of Jamestown+, with four-player support, and several cross-buy titles, including Helldivers, Metal Slug 3, and Shovel Knight. The Evil Within DLC The Assignment announced, launching March 10

The Evil Within will be receiving its first downloadable add-on next month with The Assignment. Scheduled to launch on March 10, The Assignment is the first of a two-party side story that follows Sebastian’s partner Juli Kidman during the main campaign. The expansion will feature new enemies and locations, as well as more behind the group Mobius. Players can see The Assignment in action on Bethesda’s Twitch channel on March 6 at 3 p.m. (CST). Part two, The Consequence, is scheduled to launch this spring.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 – Episode 1 now on PSN, Feb. 25 on Live

Capcom has released the first episode of Resident Evil Revelations 2 on PSN for PS3 and PS4. Episode 1 will launch tomorrow on Xbox Live for Xbox 360 and Xbox One and on Steam for PC. The sequel begins with Claire Redfield, now an agent for the anti-bioterrorism group Terra Save, working alongside Moira Burton, Barry Burton’s daughter, to escape the clutches of kidnappers. In search of the two, Barry encounters Natalia Korda, a young girl with the power to sense enemies, whom he recruits to find Moira. Players must switch between the pairs in order to avoid enemies and find their way off a deadly island.

Final Fantasy Type-0 HD combat trailer, Episode Duscae clip released

Square Enix has released a translated video of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD from their recent Active Time Report presentation. The three-minute-long trailer starts with a bloody man begging for help and subsequently follows Class Zero as they argue about duty and battle a variety of monsters. The last minute is a clip from Final Fantasy XV – Episode Duscae – of Noctis and crew also battling enemies, as well as doing a bit of giggling. Episode Duscae will be available with the Day One Edition of Type-0 HD.
