Console versions of Minecraft get new items, mobs, fixes, and more

The console edition of Minecraft received a significant update today. In addition to a number of tweaks to enchanting, fishing, crafting, etc., the patch also brings with it dozens of new pieces of content. Over 30 items, 20-plus blocks, five mobs, and nine biomes are included in the patch. A new tutorial has also been created to acclimate players to all of the additions and changes. Graham gets his crown today with the release of King’s Quest – Chapter 2: Rubble Without a Cause for PS3 and PS4. The follow-up to A Knight to Remember finds Graham being booted out of his newly acquired kingdom by a band of goblins. In the process of regaining the throne, he must free the people of Daventry from the horde and save his friends from A Knight to Remember. PC and Xbox gamers can download the game tomorrow.

Yakuza 5 now available on PSN for PS3

Yakuza 5 is out! After announcing its launch date on Saturday, Sega has released the download-only title on PSN. In the crime-themed, open-world action title, players control five characters who are being drawn into the underworld. Some, including series regulars Kazuma Kiryu and Taiga Saejima, have tried to leave that life behind, while others find themselves caught up in recent events. In addition to busting heads, players can also engage in a variety of mini-games, such as drag racing and gambling.

Yakuza 0 coming to North America, Yakuza 5 launching next week

During Sony’s PlayStation Experience livestream, Atlus revealed two bits of Yakuza-related news: the first is that the studio will be bringing Yakuza 0 stateside both physically and digitally for PS4, and secondly, Yakuza 5’s will be released on December 8. Yakuza 0 will take players back to December 1988 as they take a young Kazuma Kiryu through the streets of Tokyo in a bid to regain his honor. He must fight to restore his name after a simple debt collection ends in murder. Another story will see players control Goro Majima, the Mad Dog of Shimano, as he attempts to rejoin his clan. Combat styles will be switchable on the fly, and players will be able to earn cash from Telephone Clubs, Pocket Circuit car races, and Disco Halls.

After introducing players to the game’s five protagonists, Sega is now focusing on some of Yakuza 5’s secondary characters. The first is Masaru Watase, a hotshot lieutenant for the Omi Alliance itching for a gang war. Looking to stop him and his ilk is a mysterious Osaka detective who uses clues to manipulate the main characters. Sosuke Komaki is a flannel-loving trainer who is helping Kiryu. On the other end of the spectrum are Goro Majima, an enforcer for the Shimano Family, and Hiroshi Kugihara, a mutilated, deranged inmate out to terrorize Saejima during his stint. Even more of the extended cast is featured in the dozen new screenshots posted below.

King’s Quest: Rubble Without a Cause release dates announced

Sierra has announced the release dates for Rubble Without a Cause, the second chapter in The Odd Gentlemen’s episodic King’s Quest series. The release will be split up over two days, with the PS3 and PS4 versions launching late afternoon on December 15 and the PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One versions on December 16. The second chapter picks up shortly after the first as the newly crowned King Graham sets out to rescue the kingdom from a band of invading goblins.

Atlus has announced a Storybook Edition for Vanillasoftware’s Odin Sphere Leifthrasir. The $79.99 limited edition will be exclusive to PS4 and come packed with a 64-page hardcover art book with work by George Kamitani and Vanillaware, a soon-to-be-revealed art print, a potion recipe t-shirt, a metal slipcase for the game, and an outer box. Standard version buyers won’t be completely left out, as those will come bundled with a 64-page softcover art book. A release window was also revealed: spring 2016.

Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator- announced for PS3, PS4, coming 2016

Aksys Games has announced that they will be returning to the Guilty Gear series next year with Guilty Gear Xrd -Revelator-. The Arc System Works fighter will be available next spring for PS3 and PS4 with over 20 fighters, new modes, and support for cross-platform multiplayer. One of the new modes is Stylish Type, a feature that will be familiar to Blazblue players, which helps newcomers ease into the game by allowing them to unleash flashy single-button combos.

Life is Strange to get limited physical release on January 19

Square Enix has announced a limited-run physical version of Dontnod’s Life is Strange for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The time-bending episodic adventure will be available in a boxed set on January 19 and contain a 32-page art book, directors’ commentary, and a selection of tracks from the game. The full list of included tunes is available below, with 14 from the soundtrack and 8 from the game’s composer, Jonathan Morali.
