La-Mulana EX has gone live on PSN for PS Vita. The side-scrolling action platformer from Pygmy Studio once again calls the intrepid adventurer Professor Lemeza Kosugiembark to the dangerous ruins of La-Mulana. Players must help the whip-wielding explorer as he searches for lost treasure, battles monsters, and explores uncharted territory. The PS Vita version features a new bestiary and the option to undo the Hard Mode curse.

Spring Fever PlayStation Store Event offers discounts, new games

Sony has announced their plans for this year’s Spring Fever PlayStation Store event. The eight-week-long promo will feature additional discounts for PS Plus members and general discounts for everyone. While some of the bigger franchises will be included in the sale, such as Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty, and God of War, the new titles, set to launch one per week, are especially interesting. Some of the highlights are the PS4 version of Jamestown+, with four-player support, and several cross-buy titles, including Helldivers, Metal Slug 3, and Shovel Knight. NIS has released a new puzzle-action hybrid for PS Vita, htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary. The uniquely named title is also an original property from NIS, which tasks players with controlling two fairies via the touchscreen and rear touch pad through monster-filled labyrinths. The two fairies, one representing light and the other dark, find a slumbering girl named Mion and use their powers to help her through the dungeon as she slowly regains her memories.

NIS America has announced that their upcoming dungeon crawler Operation Abyss: New Tokyo Legacy has a new release date. Originally scheduled for release on April 14, the Experience Inc.-developed role-playing game will now be launching for PS Vita on June 9. Aksys Games celebrates 10 years with new site, letter from founder

Aksys Games is nearing its 10-year anniversary, and to celebrate, the company has relaunched their official website. The site now includes a section for staff blogs, where staff can talk about their various interests in and out of gaming and interact with commenters, an events calendar for tracking upcoming tournaments and conventions, and more detailed product pages. The studio’s founder and CEO Akibo Shieh also released an open letter, thanking fans and discussing the company’s more popular titles. The full letter has been posted below.

NIS has released a new dating-sim-style role-playing game for PS Vita, Criminal Girls: Invite Only. Originally released for PSP in 2010, the new version includes new scenarios, two new playable characters, updated art, and support for PS TV. As the guardian of seven delinquents, players must guide the girls through four trials of the Redemption Program in one-on-one encounters in order to save their souls from being damned to Hell and give them a second chance on Earth.

Sega bringing 2D fighter Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax stateside

Sega has announced that they are partnering with developers Ecole and French Bread (the studio behind Aksys’ upcoming fighter Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late) for a Western release of Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax. The 2D crossover fighter will feature characters from several Dengeki Bunko titles, some of Sega’s own characters, and Sega-themed environments. The title will be released for the PS3 and PS Vita later this year.

PSN adding PS Music, PS Video, and support for Spotify

Sony has announced that they will consolidate several of their multimedia services into PSN. Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited will both be added to PSN and renamed PS Music and PS Video, respectively. Music Unlimited will shut down in all countries on March 29, while Spotify will be added to PS Music this spring. As a result of today’s news, PlayStation Network will soon consist of PS Music, PS Now, PS Plus, PS Store, PS Video, and PS Vue.
