Atlus shows the goods with Shin Megami Tensei IV unboxing video

One brief bit of news today before we make with the fireworks and barbecue. Atlus has posted an unboxing video of their upcoming role-playing game, Shin Megami Tensei IV. The video, just over three minutes, features all the goodies that come with first-run launch copies: a strategy and design book, an eight-track best-of soundtrack with music from the entire series, and the special packaging.

Lightning Returns gets Cloud Strife outfit pack pre-order bonus

Square Enix has announced that players who pre-order Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will receive a day-one downloadable outfit pack that features Cloud Strife’s Soldier 1st Class uniform. The drop will also include Cloud’s Buster Sword, Soldier’s Band, and Final Fantasy VII’s Victory Fanfare theme and finishing animation. The outfit will bestow special abilities as well, but just what those abilities are weren’t revealed. A few preliminary screens were released to show how Lightning might look in the final uniform, and a few extra shots were added for good measure.

Activision has announced a new pre-order bonus for Call of Duty: Ghosts, the Free Fall downloadable map. The level features the new dynamic map event mechanic, and will be available at launch. Free Fall will put players into a skyscraper that’s on the verge of collapse, and will slowly fall as the round plays out, causing debris to clutter the battlefield and new pathways to emerge while others are cut off.

Rise of the Triad dated, Apogee Throwback Pack bonus announced

The upcoming Unreal Engine 3-powered remake of Rise of the Triad from Interceptor Entertainment has been officially dated for July 31. Publisher Apogee Software also announced a new pre-order bonus for the $14.99 release, with early buyers receiving a four-game compilation dubbed the Apogee Throwback Pack for free. The set, normally $9.99, includes Rise of the Triad: Dark War, Extreme Rise of the Triad, Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, and Blake Stone: Planet Strike. The deal is available on Apogee’s official site, GOG.com, Green Man Gaming, and Steam.

Summon the vanguard! CastleStorm to launch July 29 on Steam

CastleStorm, a physics-based tower defense and brawler hybrid, will launch next month on Steam, according to developer Zen Studios. The game, set to go live for PC on July 29, will allow players to build their own castle using an in-game editor and then manage its garrison to stave off invading hordes. A video has been released to offer additional details about what players can expect from the castle editor.

D-Link is prepping their latest gaming router, the DGL-5500, for launch and has announced that pre-orders are now live. Newegg and the D-Link Shop are currently taking orders for the $199.99 unit, which is set to ship on August 1. The DGL-5500, detailed below, follows previous entries in the line by allowing users to allocate bandwidth towards preferred applications, from specific games to streaming apps such as Netflix. The company also touts its StreamBoost interface as an easy way for users to view all connected devices on a home network as well as monitor the bandwidth usage of each device.

Diablo III announced for 360, console versions to launch September

Console gamers looking to give Diablo III a go will get their chance later this summer as Blizzard has revealed September 3 as the final release date. It was also announced that the PS3 version will launch alongside an Xbox 360 version. Both releases will include all of the updates and tweaks made to the PC version since launch, as well as redesigned control schemes that include a dynamic camera and a new interface for easier gamepad play. Up to four players will be able to group up locally or online, which includes the ability to have mixed parties of both local and online players.

Rockstar has announced two limited releases for Grand Theft Auto V, the Special Edition and the Collector’s Edition. Both versions, detailed below, are currently available for pre-order for 360 and PS3. The Special Edition runs $79.99 and includes a blueprint map, special ability boost, extra weapons, new outfits, and more. The Collector’s Edition is $149.99 and includes such goodies as a snapback cap, classic GTA characters for multiplayer, and new vehicles. A pre-order bonus for all version was also announced, the Atomic Blimp in-game vehicle. Nothing says luxury like a blimp.
