Bloober Team’s horror-tinged adventure title Layers of Fear will be exiting Early Access and launching in full for PC next month. A new trailer was also released to coincide with the reveal that the game will also be available for PS4. To ensure they properly reach this expanded audience Bloober has teamed up with Aspyr Media for marketing and distribution.

Life is Strange gets physical, now on store shelves for console, PC

Dontnod’s episodic adventure title Life is Strange is now available in physical form for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. As high school senior (and resident time manipulator) Max Caulfield, players team up with friend Chloe Price to investigate the disappearance of another student in Arcadia Bay. Two versions are on offer, with the standard edition featuring all five episodes, and a Limited Edition, which also includes a 32-page art book, a music CD with 14 licensed tracks and 8 tracks from the game’s composer, and a directors’ commentary.

MS acquires MinecraftEdu, announces Minecraft: Education Edition

Microsoft is expanding Minecraft’s presence in education with the acquisition of MinecraftEdu. The version, specifically built for classrooms, is being enhanced, renamed, and re-released as Minecraft: Education Edition. The announcement notes that an advisory board of educators is going to assist in the evolution of the product, and that a free trial will be available worldwide this summer. A new site is launching as well, which will feature lesson plans and other resources, including Minecraft Mentors, a program that will allow those who are about to introduce the title to their classroom the chance to reach out to experienced educators.

Rocksteady has released Crime Fighter Challenge Pack #6 for the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight. Console owners will be able to grab the pack next week, on January 26. The pack adds focused training in Freeflow Combat and Invisible Predator stealth in locations from Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight during online play. Rocksteady is also throwing in a bonus for everyone with the January update, the Batman Incorporated skin.

Resident Evil 0 now available online, in stores for PS4, Xbox One

Capcom continues the Resident Evil remaster trend today with the release of Resident Evil 0. Available digitally and in stores, the prequel takes place back in 1998, before Chris and Jill set foot in Raccoon City. As STARS medic Rebecca Chambers and fugitive ex-Marine Billy Coen, players will have to uncover the truth behind a nearby outbreak by swapping between the two to solve puzzles, look for clues, and of course, defeat mutants aplenty. This version features updated graphics and audio, a new optional control scheme, and the post-game Wesker Mode, which features a beefed-up Wesker and Rebecca in an alternate uniform.

Cat’s lasers are primed for combat, sir! Shooting Stars out for PC

Bloodirony and Daedalic’s latest shooter, Shooting Stars, is now available for PC. As Tscherno, players don their skinny jeans, hoodies, and thick-framed glasses to save the day with their laser-eyed cat. Saddling up on their hoverboard, they must save mankind from an invasion of aliens who have taken on the form of knockoff Hollywood actors, musicians, and Youtubers (“Like, rate, comment and subscribe!”). In addition to the main mode, there are cards to collect and Daily Runs for players to compete for leaderboard position on individual stages.

Techland has released a new video detailing a new set of in-game challenges for Dying Light: The Following – Enhanced Edition. Bounties are comprised of three different categories of objectives that change every day. The video shows a few that will be on offer, including escaping a set number of chases, climbing the highest point in an area, and tackling community challenges set over several days. Players who already own Dying Light will be able to access Bounties as part of a free update that is set to launch alongside the upcoming add-on The Following.

Capcom’s open-world action role-playing game Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen has launched for PC. The expanded re-release of Dragon’s Dogma, released in 2013 for PS3 and Xbox 360, has been updated with Steam support, including Achievements and additional controller options, updated visuals, and support for 4K. Dark Arisen includes all of the content from the original game as well as a new area, Bitterblack Isle, that adds new enemies, quests, weapons, and armor.
