Developer- and Publisher-specific Articles: PAX
A new trailer and handful of screenshots offer a first look at Quake Champions’ upcoming take on The Camping Grounds, Blood Covenant. Fans of the series will remember the original level from Quake III Arena, Q3DM6. The new version is said to retain several sections, namely “the long Jump Pad to the Rocket Launcher, the Quad Damage spawn, the Railgun ledge, and the tightly spaced battles in the Pillars.” Newer bits take into account the active and passive abilities available in Champions. PAX East attendees can drop by Bethesda’s booth (#18007 and 20007) to try it out.
Run the Jewels is teaming up with The Coalition to debut their latest track Panther Like a Panther, from their upcoming album Run the Jewels 3, in a new trailer for Gears of War 4. The video spotlights Horde 3.0. The new version will once again have a team of players facing off against waves of increasingly difficult enemies, but now with the addition of abilities, fortifications via a deployable base, and five classes: Engineer, Heavy, Scout, Sniper, and Soldier. Horde 3.0 will be playable at Pax West this weekend, with special guests battling it out in the First to Fifty, beginning at 6:30 p.m. (PDT) in the Pax Arena. Run the Jewels will be on hand, along with series co-creator Rod Fergusson, at Bait on Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m., and will appear as characters in multiplayer.
Dodge Roll is prepping a new patch for Enter the Gungeon, the Supply Drop Update. The drop will add over a hundred rooms, along with new companions, bosses, enemy types, shrines, and weapons. Of particular note is the Bullet Gun, a bullet that shoots bullet-shooting guns. Another update is planned for later this year, and an expansion in early 2017. In the meantime, Pax West attendees can check out the new content at booth 2343.
Nine Dots has released the Pax West trailer for their upcoming open-world fantasy adventure Outward. The role-playing game is said to utilize elements from survival titles, such as the need for food and water, to impact the narrative. Players take charge of one of four factions and lead them across the lands of Aurai. The group will have to manage their resources and fight those that get in their way. The game will autosave frequently to ensure that players live with the outcomes of their decisions, and enemies will not scale to their level, which will make navigation difficult. Magic will take time to prepare, equipment will reduce mobility, and the environment will have an impact on gear. Players can also have a friend tag along locally or online in two-player co-op. Pax attendees can try the game out at Booth #7303.
A handful of few new shots have been released from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s upcoming expansion Blood and Wine. The screens cover a little of everything, from giant monsters to some of the surreal new environments. CD Projekt also announced a PAX East 2016 panel about the in-game card game Gwent, titled Gwent-Ception: Does a Game Within a Game, Make a Game a Better Game, which will take place on Saturday on 2 p.m. (EST) and stream on Twitch.
The Coalition has released a new trailer ahead of the Gears of War 4’s multiplayer beta opening to all Live Gold members. The beta will open up next Monday, so to get newer players up to speed, a highlight reel was put together showcasing some of the new weapons, abilities, and executions. The Dropshot, Buzzkill, and vault kick all pop up. PAX East attendees will get a chance to try multiplayer with a hands-on demo as well as watch the Gears eSports ESL Pro League Season 2 Grand Finals, catch the reveal of the new competitive mode Escalation, and sit in on a multiplayer-themed panel hosted by The Coalition. Gamers who won’t be in Boston for the show can check out the events, and take part in some giveaways, at 10:00 a.m. (CST) at the official Gears Twitch channel.
Another Street Fighter Alpha character has joined Nash in Street Fighter V, aspiring wrestler R. Mika. A heavy-hitting high-flyer, Rainbow Mika is a famous wrestler who is inspired by another beloved brawler, Zangief. She can also call upon her tag partner, Nadeshiko, to join in when players utilize her V-Trigger ability. PAX attendees can try a new demo at Capcom’s booth (#3103) that has R. Mika unlocked for play.
Devolver Digital is set to debut a new action RPG from Kitty Lambda Games at PAX East, Paradise Never. The game will take place on a French island colony in 2027, during the outset of a revolution. Players must relive the same three days in order to free the island while keeping as many of their friends and fellow rebels alive. Said to utilize a “sophisticated NPC behavioral system,” players will be able to learn more from characters by talking to them at different times of the day and on different days. Characters left alone will continue on their regular routine. The ultimate goal is to stop the days from restarting, but that will only happen when enough people survive the revolution.
Mighty Rabbit Studios and Gun Media’s zombie-infested, top-down strategy-shooter hybrid Breach & Clear: Deadline has launched on Steam Early Access. An early alpha was released last summer, and since then, the developers have expanded the game with daily leaderboards, new enemies, extra sidequests, and new navigable areas within the open world. PAX attendees will be able to try their hand at wiping out the undead this weekend at Gambitious Digital Entertainment and Devolver Digital’s booth (1243).
