Sony has released the updated next-gen-ified version of Last of Us for PS4, The Last of Us Remastered. This enhanced version includes Left Behind, the prequel DLC that follows Ellie up to her meeting with Joel, two multiplayer map packs, and new difficulty modes. Performance has also been improved, with support for 1080p, 60 frames per second, longer draw distances, better lighting and shadows, and higher-resolution character models. Remastered is available for $49.99.
Fans of The Last of Us can see what happened to Ellie before she met Joel today in a new single-player downloadable prologue, Left Behind. The Naughty Dog-developed add-on explores Ellie’s relationship with her friend Riley as the two attend school in the Boston quarantine zone and later decide whether to stay in the zone or join the Fireflys. Despite being set before The Last of Us, you’re going to want to finish it before playing Left Behind. And if you haven’t played The Last of Us yet, go ahead and free up a weekend and get to it.
Naughty Dog has scored another hit with The Last of Us. Sony is reporting that the latest from the Uncharted developer has sold 3.4 million units, counting both physical units and PSN download copies, as of July 3. The announcement also stated that it is the fastest-selling PS3 game of 2013, having reached its numbers after less than three weeks on the market.
Gamers looking to cap off an excitement week of E3 reveals (see: $399 PS4) can try their hand at surviving a new post-apocalyptic adventure, The Last of Us. Naughty Dog’s third-person action title takes place 20 years after a virus has ravaged humanity and left the US as an overgrown wasteland, filled with violent survivors and infected monstrosities. It’s through this new urban jungle that players must lead Joel and Ellie. Ellie is bound for a group known as the Fireflies, and Joel is the man responsible for seeing her to safety. With limited resources, players must scrounge for whatever they can find, using stealth to snatch materials and a crafting system to create new weapons.
Sony’s focus on E3 has been the integration of the PS Vita experience with the PS3, as well as the continuation of some of their more popular lines and the expansion of their multimedia offerings. The entire Sony hardware and software lineup—Move, PS3, PS Vita, PSN—was touched on.
Uncharted (and Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter) creator Naughty Dog is set to bring a new IP to the PlayStation 3 with the recently announced The Last of Us. Looking like a cross between The Road and I Am Legend, the studio has described the upcoming survival title as “a genre-defining experience” that tells the story of a world ravaged by a plague and those survivors left to eke out an existence. A pair of travelers, Joel and Ellie, will work together to scrounge for food and face off against others for the few remaining resources as they make their way across what’s left of the United States.
Naughty Dog enters trilogy territory today with the release of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception for the PS3. The latest installment of treasure-hunting everyman Nathan Drake’s ongoing journey sees him uncovering a historical conspiracy that links Sir Francis Drake, T.E. Lawrence, and the Atlantis of the Sands.
