The worlds of Eve Online and free-to-play shooter Dust 514 will be getting closer to full integration next week when Dust moves into open beta on January 22. The first step was accomplished on January 10 when developer CCP Games merged the two on the Eve server Tranquility, and as Dust nears its launch, the game’s full suite of features will come online. Current players will also be happy to hear that they can start building up their character stats today as CCP has no subsequent character resets planned. CCP’s massively multiplayer action title Dust 514 gets one step closer to final launch with the release of the latest update, Codex. The newest additions include Corporations, the guild-styled squad system also found in Eve Online, female avatars, new weapons, the Skill system, and more environments. Current players can get the most out of the newly implemented Skills by earning double points from now until November 8.
CCP has sent along some new shotsshots from Gamescom showing off the latest beta build of Dust 514, their upcoming MMOFPS for PS3. Today is also the beginning of the planned extensive integration with CCP’s other MMO, Eve Online for PC. In addition, the update also includes “Orbital Strike framework, instant battle matchmaking, new environments, keyboard and mouse support, and tons of other enhancements.”
PlayStation Plus subscribers eager to try out CCP Games’ upcoming MMOFPS Dust 514 will be able to jump into the fray next week. A special closed beta event for subscribers will run from August 21 to September 4, but they won’t be alone, as they will be joined by gamers who bought the game’s Mercenary Pack or the All-Access Pass. August 21 also marks the day of the Precursor release, which begins the process of integrating Dust 514 and Eve Online, adding the ability for players to call in orbital strikes, access new environments, and utilize instant battle matchmaking.
The first episode of the PlanetSide 2 Command Center Developer video series has been released, with Creative Director Matt Higby and Senior Art Director Tramell Isaac covering a wide range of topics for the upcoming MMOFPS. Items discussed include faction uniforms, SOE Live and other upcoming events, fan art, and the approaching beta.

Eve Online developer CCP released some new images from their upcoming free-to-play PS3 first-person shooter MMO, Dust 514. The pictures come from last month’s Eve FanFast, showing off some of the unit and vehicle types. Dust 514 will be set in and share the Eve universe, allowing players of the PC MMORPG to interact with those taking part in the PS3 MMOFPS.
Eve Online developer CCP Games has announced that their upcoming online first-person shooter Dust 514 will be a free-to-play PlayStation 3 exclusive. Dust is set in and shares the Eve universe, allowing players to wage war in team-based combat on thousands of different planets. Combat will also be coordinate with Eve pilots as factions defend and expand their empires. The first hands-on demonstration will take place at CCP’s Eve Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland (March 22-24). All attendees will receive invitations to the closed private trial, which will kick off in December and “be organically expanding throughout the beta period,” with the final launch scheduled for later this year.
