Microsoft and release Minecraft-themed coding tutorials

Microsoft has announced a new partnership with to release Minecraft-inspired coding tutorials. The tutorials, designed by Minecraft game designers, have players interact with characters Alex and Steve in 14 self-guided challenges. Players are also able to further explore the tutorials’ core concepts in free-play time. The tutorials were created for Hour of Code, a global annual campaign held during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 7-13) that features one-hour introductory experiences aimed at educators and students.

The $2.99 download includes more than 50 character skins from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Minecraft players can add a touch of ancient Hellas to their worlds today. The Greek Mythology Mashup Pack for Minecraft Console Editions bestows the blessings of Ares, Artemis, Athena, Hades, Poseidon, Zeus and more, as well as adds custom textures, a new interface, 39 unique skills, and an orchestral score by Gareth Coker. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has turned three years old, and to celebrate, Mojang is giving away three free skin packs. The downloads will be available from today until May 17 for all 20 million players on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Two of the packs were already available for the Xbox 360 but are making their Xbox One debut, the 1st Skin Pack and 2nd Birthday Skin Pack, while the Mojangstas pack is new to both versions.

Mojang releases new skins, music for Minecraft

Minecraft has received a handful of new additions, from skins to music. One of the new skins, free for all versions, is Alex, who sports red hair and a ponytail. Xbox 360 owners received some extras today, including 30 new Achievements and new music tracks. PlayStation gamers aren’t being left out and will be getting The Simpsons later this week, a set which will come with Homer and company, along with Principal Seymour Skinner, Groundskeeper Willie, and others.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition now available for Windows Phone 8.1

Microsoft has released Minecraft for Windows Phone 8.1. Minecraft: Pocket Edition includes creative mode, survival mode, and multiplayer over local wi-fi. This version also sports new biodomes, caves, mobs, and villages.



Minecraft – Live Arcade trailer, screens revealed at MineCon

The Xbox 360 Live Arcade version of Minecraft was debuted today at MineCon, the only Mojang-sanctioned convention for the popular world-builder. Over 5,000 players have gathered to enjoy a weekend of creepers and crafting, and the first round of media from the show has been released. While not quite as nice as the attendees’ hands-on time, I think a batch of screenshots and a trailer isn’t too bad of a way to kick off the weekend.

Minecraft to make Xbox 360 debut, launch for PC at MineCon

MineCon, the convention for all things Minecraft, is almost upon the prime blocks of Las Vegas. Not only will MineCon mark the official launch of the PC version, but it was also announced that the Xbox 360 version will be on hand and playable. The console version isn’t set to launch on Live Arcade until next spring.
