Halo Wars: Definitive Edition now standalone for PC, Xbox One

Strategy gamers who went with the standard release of Halo Wars 2 can try their hand at battling the Covenant in the game’s predecessor with the launch of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition. The enhanced re-release is now available as a standalone purchase on Steam, Xbox Store, and Windows Store. The latest version features updated graphics, extra Achievements, all downloadable content, and support for Play Anywhere. Play Anywhere allows PC and Xbox One owners to access both versions for a single purchase.

Grab your guns, nades, and eggs, Easter is coming to Gears of War 4

he Coalition is getting festive with the April update for Gears of War 4. On April 14, players will be able to access a new Easter-themed game mode, Bunny Hunt, that adds oversized Bunny Heads into a new variation of Guardian. Five Chocolate Easter Egg-themed weapon skins will also be on offer by registering at GearsofWar.com and completing challenges in a special playlist. April will also see two maps returning from Gears of War 3: Hotel and The Slab. Both are being revamped, with Hotel now located on a misty, overgrown cliffside, while The Slab has a two-lane opening splintered by a courtyard and a windflare roaring in the distance. Season Pass holders can actually play the maps today, while others will need to wait until April 11. Two Legacy Characters are also hitting this month, a surprise COG who can be found early in a Gears Pack and the Locust Kantus. Weapon tuning is also being introduced, including reduced range for the Gnasher and increased body damage with Lancers. Full details can be found on the Community Hub.

Dead Rising 4 to get story DLC on April 4, golf-themed DLC soon

Dead Rising 4 will be received a new single-player add-on next month. Frank Rising, scheduled to launch on April 4, finds Frank amidst a new outbreak in Willamette, only this time he’s one of the infected. All’s not lost, as he can make a full recovery if he can make it to a cure in time. Along the way, as his body begins to change, he will grow stronger and gain new abilities. Of course, the downside is that he can no longer eat food and must munch on survivors. Also announced is Super Ultra Dead Rising 4 Mini Golf. Releasing this spring, players will unlock special golf clubs, balls, and costumes, while Frank comments on his swings. Power-ups will also tweak the rules as players go solo or try for the highest score with four friends online or in local turn-based co-op. Both drops are part of the season pass.

Forza Horizon 3 – Duracell Car Pack, free ride going live tomorrow

Forza Horizon 3 is getting seven additional rides tomorrow in the Duracell Car Pack. The final Car Pass download will add the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, 2015 Jaguar XES, 1992 Ford Falcon GT, 1983 Volvo 242 Turbo Evolution, 1995 Nissan Nismo GT-R LM, 1959 BMW 507, and 1972 Land Rover Series III. There’s also a bonus: the Duracell-themed 2016 GTA Spano. The freebie is available for all players, and can be downloaded from the Xbox Store under “Forza Horizon 3 GTA Spano.” Details for all of the vehicles can be found below.

Halo Wars 2 demo released for Xbox One, PC demo coming soon

Microsoft has released a demo for the recently launched Halo Wars 2. Gamers can currently download it for Xbox One, while the PC version should be along shortly. The trial includes the first mission, The Signal, along with access to Blitz Firefight against an AI opponent. The latter comes with a pre-built deck of cards from Captain Cutter or Atriox. The Xbox One version requires a Live Gold account.

The fight continues, Halo Wars 2 out for PC, Xbox One

Players are returning to the battlefield today twenty-eight years after the original Halo Wars. The real-time strategy game will find a crew awakening from cryosleep to answer a distress call that leads to a new round of warfare. Virtual commanders will find a single-player campaign as well as multiplayer that sports several modes, including Deathmatch and Stronghold. 343 Industries’ head of strategy games, Dan Ayoub, has released a final letter to thank fans and to give several others at the studio a chance to share their thoughts at launch. Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition launches through early access

Gamers who purchased the Ultimate Edition of Halo Wars 2 can now play it via early access. The 343 Industries and Creative Assembly co-developed real-time strategy game follows the events of the original Halo Wars. Set 28 years later, players awake from cryosleep to answer a distress call that kicks off a new battle. As an Xbox Play Anywhere title, gamers can play the game on PC and Xbox One, as well as a swap data between the two, with a single digital purchase. Sea of Thieves alpha getting gravity, islands, more in next update

Microsoft has sent word that Rare will be expanding the alpha of their multiplayer-centric sea-faring action-adventure title Sea of Thieves this weekend with Update 0.1.1. Titled Taming New Seas, the patch will introduce several elements, including gravity, additional regions and islands, voyage system navigation, and among several other unnamed items, skeletons armed with machine guns. The studio is also taking the opportunity to invite more Sea of Thieves Insiders to try out the alpha. Players interested in becoming an inside can sign up on the official site.

Gears of War 4 gets maps, tweaks, Valentine’s event with update

Gears of War 4’s February update kicks off a week-long Valentine’s event today. The promotion adds new packs, maps (Impact Dark and War Machine), themed bounties, a Craftable Character, and additional improvements. The Torque Bow Tag also makes a return, but with a twist. Next month, players can look forward to a pre-game lobby setup for Core and Competitive playlists, weapon and playlist tuning based on feedback from fan surveys, and the first of “a steady flow” of Legacy Characters. This summer will also see some additions, including a new Inconceivable difficulty level for Campaign and Horde, IronMan Mode for Campaign and Horde, level 6 skills for all classes, more skills for all classes, and new achievements.
