Gears of War 4’s Xbox One X 4K update detailed, highlighted in trailer

Coalition is following up last week’s reveal of Gears of War 4’s October update with details about the upcoming 4K patch. A trailer has also been released to show the spruced-up version in action. Players who grab an Xbox One X can try out the game’s Visuals Rendering Mode to play the game at 3840×2160; however, players with 1080p screens should also notice a difference, with a 4K super sampled image providing “a crisper, richer looking” picture. HDR will also be supported at 4K, along with enhanced light shafts for more realistic sunlight, dynamic shadows, improved reflections, increased draw distances, and higher resolution textures. There will also be an option to choose between Visuals or Performance, for those that prefer a zippy 60 frames per second at 1080p or greater detail with Ultra Quality Textures in 4K at 30 frames per second. Versus will run at 60 frames per second in 4K regardless of chosen mode. Audiophiles will find support for Dolby Atmos and the Dolby Access app.

Gears of War 4 gets two maps with October update, 4K support soon

The Coalition has released details about their upcoming plans for Gears of War 4. The game’s latest patch adds two maps as well preps for an upcoming seasonal event and support for 4K. The first map is an update of Fuel Depot, now sporting a larger playing area for greater maneuverability. The other map is Lift Apex, another throwback, though slightly more tweaked, as it’s a re-imagining that retains the ocean-bound elevator design but removes the moving lift and expansion element. Both will be available on October 23 for Season Pass holders, along with double experience and 20% bonus credits, while everyone else will be able to access them on October 30. A new credit boost is also coming soon, the Map Owned bonus. This will give a permanent percentage experience and credit increase for any maps owned when played in Public Versus or Horde. Going forward, a Halloween event is set to go live soon, adding new characters, weapon skins, and themed events. November will also see a month-long celebration of the 11th anniversary of the original, and near its launch, support for 4K for the Xbox One X.
