Konami has released the prequel to Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Ground Zeroes. Available in stores and online for 360, PS3, PS4, and Xbox One, Ground Zeroes follows Big Boss as he tackles a rescue mission inside of a Cuban prison camp. The 1975 op sees him sneaking into Camp Omega, which will allow players to attempt the rescue through pure stealth, action, or a combination of the two. The assignment also allows players to exerpience many of the new features, including a day-and-night cycle, dynamic weather, and second-screen functionality with the iDroid App for Android, iOS, and Xbox SmartGlass devices. Additional side missions also extend the gameplay beyond the core mission.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes getting early-run DLC, mobile app

Konami has revealed more info about Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain prequel Ground Zeroes. An early-bird bonus will be available for both games, with buyers of the first-run physical or launch-period online copies of Ground Zeroes receiving DLC for Phantom Pain. The pack will add more personnel for Mother Base. The two games will be further linked by the ability to bring over character skins as well as freed prisoners of war and rescued VIPs from Ground Zeroes to Phantom Pain, the latter also serving as staff in Mother Base. It was also announced that the PS4 and Xbox One will also be receiving physical and digital copies of Ground Zeroes for $29.99.

This version includes all three of the DLC missions that were released for 360 and PS3 (Blade Wolf, Jetstream, and VR Missions) as well as several body upgrades for Raiden, including Commando Armor, Cyborg Ninja, White Armor, and his outfit from MGS4.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance now on Steam for pre-order

The PC version of Konami and PlatinumGames’ Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is now available for pre-order on Steam. Beginning at noon (central), players who put down their cash will receive 33 percent off; players who pre-order after the first 24 hours will still get a discount, but at a slightly lower 20 percent. The PC version includes all three DLC missions released for consoles—Blade Wolf, Jetstream, and VR Missions—as well as several body upgrades for Raiden, including the White Armor, Commando Armor, and his MGS4 outfit.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes mission, bonus videos a go

Konami has released two new videos from Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. The first showcases night mission gameplay, which allows for greater stealth than its ‘day mission’ counterpart. Now, Big Boss avoids the gun battle of the previous video and sneaks into Camp Omega under the cover of darkness. The other video features Xbox-exclusive content, the Jamais Vu mission. In a(n awesome) callback to Snatcher, the bioroid Snatchers storm Camp Omega to steal identities but are instead met by Raiden. Aside: what in the world? Snatcher? Looks like someone got my letter.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes gets new trailer, 12-minute video

Konami has followed up their first round of images of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes with two new videos: a trailer for the Déjà Vu throwback mission, as well as a new 12-minute extended gameplay video. The video above is the trailer for Déjà Vu, which is an exclusive mission for PS3 and PS4 that features a low-polygon Solid Snake operating in a high-definition environment. The extended gameplay footage, posted below, was captured from the PS4 version and features a Side Ops day mission in which Big Boss must retrieve intelligence from a double agent.

Konami has revealed more about their Voltron-esque plans for Metal Gear Solid V. The full release will actually be comprised of two separate titles, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes, announced for a spring 2014 release, will function as a prologue to The Phantom Pain. In addition to setting the narrative tone and pace, Ground Zeroes is also being used as an introductory tool to prepare gamers for the new mechanics introduced in the V line, with missions “designed to ease players into the new control and gameplay advances that will be an integral part” of The Phantom Pain.

Konami has gone for a double whammy to entice gamers into grabbing Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Not only have they lowered the price to $29.99, but they have also tossed in the Jetstream and Blade Wolf character download packs. The Jetstream DLC features Samuel Rodriguez, Raiden’s dashing sword-wielding rival, in his own side story that details his origins. The Blade Wolf DLC is a similar origin-themed release that reveals the backstory of Blade Wolf, previously known as LQ-84i. In addition to seeing how he came to serve under Desperado Enforcement’s Sundowner, players will also get to experience a new boss battle.

Konami unleashes Solid Snake & Co. on California with new studio

Konami has announced that it has opened a new development studio in Los Angeles. The studio will assist with several titles going forward, but most notably, it will focus on working with Kojima Productions on future entries in the Metal Gear Solid franchise. According to Tomoyuki Tsuboi, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc., “the new studio will put Kojima Productions in the heart of the west which will benefit future releases as it will introduce new talent and creativity to the development teams.”

Konami’s massive Metal Gear Solid set, Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection, is now available for PS3. The pack coincides with the franchise’s 25th anniversary, and it contains all of the series’ major releases: Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3: HD Edition (with MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition, Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition, and Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions. Several bonuses are also included: two graphic novels by Ashley Wood, both making their North American debut, as well as a new 100-page art book.
