The Elder Scrolls Online to launch in April for PC, June for consoles

The Mac and Windows PC version of The Elder Scrolls Online will go live on April 4, according to Bethesda, with the console versions following in June. To celebrate the final launch date, a new gameplay trailer has been released, titled War in Cyrodiil. The footage showcases the player-versus-player system that will pit hundreds of gamers against one another in a battle for the Ruby Throne, and features close- and long-range combat, magic, and siege warfare. Game director Matt Frior also talks a bit more about the game over at the ElderScrollsOnline.com.

The third-person shooter puts players on the frontline of an alien invasion as an agent for XCOM. Unlike its strategy counterparts, The Bureau is set in the past, at the beginning of the organization’s war against the aliens. As special agent William Carter, players will command a squad of agents in skirmishes around the country against the invaders.

Double Fine reacquires rights to Costume Quest and Stacking

In a move that’s sure to please fans of Double Fine, the studio has announced that they have reacquired the publishing and distribution rights to Costume Quest and Stacking. The distribution rights were acquired from Nordic Games, who picked them up in 2013 during THQ’s bankruptcy. As part of the new deal, the two companies have partnered for a retail release of Costume Quest, Psychonauts, and Stacking for Windows and Mac next year in both North America and Europe.

LEGO and TT Games will be returning to Tolkien’s universe next year with LEGO The Hobbit. Based on Peter Jackson’s ongoing Hobbit trilogy, LEGO will feature Bilbo, the Dwarves, and Gandalf as they go through the storyline of the first two films, using their special abilities to make their way around roaming orcs and trolls. The gang will also venture through some of the films’ prominent locations, picking up treasure and solving puzzles along the way.

Drox Operative’s first expansion, Invasion of the Ancients, is now available for download, as its demo. The Ancients were the races that dominated the galaxy before the Drox rose to power, but who later fell to the Drox and their Operatives. Now that the Drox are no more, the Ancients have returned for revenge, and the remaining Operatives are their prime target. Their return brings with it 19 playable subraces, new quests, new components, military and production space stations, the new Scavenger race, and new Legion, Overlord, and Talon monsters.

Wasteland 1 – The Original Classic now available on GOG, Steam

inXile has brought back Wasteland. Not the successful Kickstarter-funded sequel but the 1988 original, courtesy of digital distribution. Released last Friday as a backer reward for its Kickstarter campaign, Wasteland 1 – The Original Classic is now available for all via GOG.com and Steam. The $5.99 download takes players back to 2087, 89 years after a nuclear war has left Earth irradiated and nearly uninhabitable. As the leader of a band of Rangers, players will take to the wilds in order to battle bandits and mutated animals as they track down a new, even more dangerous threat. This latest version has been updated to run on modern systems and includes an expanded save function, new voice-over work, support for higher resolutions (with a choice of classic or smooth visuals), tracks from Wasteland 2, and text from the original pack-in book and manual.

Beamdog’s latest Baldur’s Gate re-release, Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition, is launching later this week, and to get gamers prepared, new media has been released. Alongside the new screenshots posted below, there are music samples, more comparison shots, and more screens available at the official site. Beamdog also announced that patch 1.2 for Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition has gone live and is now available for download. The patch is said to include “a new interface and the launch of multiplayer matching, along with improved stability for customers with Intel and AMD graphics chipsets.”

The Banner Saga to set out into the wilds next January

The Banner Saga, one of the more notable Kickstarter successes of last year, now has an official release date: January 14. A launch trailer was also released to celebrate the announcement, giving gamers a peak at the lovely visuals and turn-based combat that await them as one of the leaders of a Viking caravan making their way through harsh lands.

Clockwork Empires calls players to manage a colony, battle Cthulhu

Dungeons of Dredmor developer Gaslamp Games has announced their next title, Clockwork Empires. Set for a spring 2014 release, the Linux, Mac, and Windows PC colony builder/management sim follows a Colonial Grade civil servant of the Empire sent to spread its reach and fortune in a new world. Players will have access to steam-powered machines, settlers with their own skills and ambitions, and the ability to go online and share powerful tech with other Imperial pioneers.
