Nordic Games to assist in physical distribution of Shadowrun Online

Nordic Games will be working with Cliffhanger Productions to distribute Shadowrun Online, including a physical boxed version. The tactical team-based role-playing game is currently available through Steam Early Access. In the game, players live in a cyberpunk-infused 2076, after the destruction of Boston by a dragon whose escape led to the poisoning of its inhabitants, turning them into killers. Elves, Dwarves, and other mythical races live in this new world, where corporations rule the land. The final version of the game will feature 50-plus enemies, hacking, over 60 combat and noncombat skills, and five races.

Shooter roguelike Sublevel Zero announced for PC

Mastertronic has sent word that they will be publishing Sigtrap’s shooter Sublevel Zero this summer for Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. The first-person, six-degrees-of-freedom shooter will feature procedurally generated levels, crafting, and permadeath. There are also plans to support the Oculus Rift. Ammo will be scarce, necessitating item crafting, and players will have to navigate levels filled with enemies and puzzles. The description of a roguelike Descent seems pretty apt. Square Enix Collective offering Anachronox, Fear Effect, and Gex IPs

Square Enix is offering three Eidos IPs for independent developers to try their hand at through the studio’s Collective platform. Anachronox, Fear Effect, and Gex are all on offer for developers to submit game ideas, and new project pitch submissions have also been reopened. A previous submission, Goetia, a point-and-click adventure from French developer Sushee, recently passed its Kickstarter goal with 48 hours to go. According to the release, it was the latest campaign’s success that inspired them to open up the Eidos IPs.

The Huns have arrived, Total War: Attila now available for PC

The Huns have begun their sweep across Europe today with the release of Total War: Attila. As with the original Rome and its expansion Barbarian Invasion, Attila follows Rome II and brings the timeline forward to the early medieval period. The empire is now split between Western and Eastern halves, and new factions have appeared, such as the Vikings and Goths. New features have also been introduced, such as expanded morale mechanics, including the ability to decimate a mutinous army, along with a branching skill tree, a more involved family tree, and city-management options.

Broforce adds otherworldly terrors with Alien Infestation update

Free Lives has added some evil extraterrestrial bros to Broforce in a new update, Alien Infestation. Aliens have invaded the action platformer, and now players must face a new enemy that can attack from above, scale walls, and munch on terrorists. Up to four players will be able to tackle the new campaign, which also features new traps and bosses. Amped bros can currently grab the game for 25% off.

El Presidente has decided to embrace green tech in the recently released Gone Green DLC for Tropico 5. The download adds a new building, avatar accessories, music, and sandbox map. All of the content is based around renewable power, which will allow the president’s helpers to use the new windfarm buildings to turn the latest island addition, Isabella, into an energy-efficient tropical paradise.

GOG.com adds bizarre FMV-infused adventure Toonstruck

GOG.com has added the surreal point-and-click adventure title Toonstruck to their library. The 1996 adventure title from Interplay follows cartoonist Drew Blanc as he attempts to escape a strange cartoon world populated by a wide variety of weird creatures—ah, the ‘90s. The game also features digitized actors, and a handful of notables are involved, including The Simpson’s Dan Castellaneta, Christopher Lloyd, and Tim Curry, also star of Interplay’s Frankenstein: Through the Eyes of the Monster.

New The Long Dark update adds new region, wildlife, and more

Hinterland Studio has updated the Early Access version of their exploration- and survival-themed sandbox sim The Long Dark. The latest patch adds the rural mountain region Pleasant Valley, new wildlife (unspecified until discovered by players), harvestable plants, a new inventory interface, the ability to use torches to scare off wolves, and improved wildlife AI. Some of the general improvements include predators being attracted to the smell of blood, wind speed and direction affecting scent, and smoke wafting in the direction of the wind. Elder Scrolls Online dropping for-pay model, console release dated

A lot of news out of Bethesda today in regards to the upcoming revamp of their Elder Scrolls MMO, The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. First up, console gamers were given a set launch date of June 9 for both PS4 and Xbox One. The biggest announcement, impacting all players, is that the game is dropping its for-pay model on March 17. Instead of a monthly subscription fee, players will only have to pay the one-time purchase price whenever they first buy the game. The Tamriel Unlimited release includes all of the content from the original game as well as new Justice and Champion systems, plus support for optional for-pay content and an in-game Crown Store for item customization. Former and current accounts will all be upgraded to the new version for free. To entice more players to Tamriel, a new 23-plus-minute ‘supercut’ cinematic video was also released, featuring all of the game’s factions battling it out.

When GOG.com added X-Wing and Tie Fighter to their library, the service noted that there were plans to add more of LucasArts’ popular but neglected catalog to the service in the near future. It seems that those plans are now coming to fruition with the announcement that six Star Wars titles have been added today, several of which are making their long-awaited digital debuts: X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, X-Wing Alliance, Galactic Battlegrounds, Battlefront II, Dark Forces, and Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. If one of your old favorites wasn’t mentioned, fear not, 12 more titles are scheduled to go live over the next ten days.
