Kalypso opens beta registration for Tropico 5

El Presidente is calling upon his loving people to assist him by taking part in a beta for Tropico 5. Through his minions at Kalypso, he has proclaimed that registration is now open for fellow would-be despots to sign up for the program, which is set to kick off next month. Chosen applicants will get to try their hand at several of the new features being introduced in 5, including dynasties as well as co-op and versus online play.

Hegemony Rome: The Rise of Caesar dated for Steam Early Access

The next entry in Longbow’s Hegemony series, The Rise of Caesar, will be joining Steam Early Access on February 12. As part of the program, players will be able to purchase the title at a discounted price and try the campaign’s first two chapters and most of the features, offering an estimated 12 hours of gameplay. Longbow will also be hosting a walkthrough of the game on their Twitch.tv channel on February 12 at 3 PM (CST) and on 13 at 7 PM (CST). Questions can be submitted to Longbow and publisher Kasedo beforehand on Kasedo’s Facebook page and during the demonstrations via the hashtag #Hegemony_Live at @KasedoGames on Twitter, both sets will be answered after the stream.

Kalypso announces Tropico 5 for PlayStation 4

El Presidente has surveyed the next-gen landscape, and he likes what he sees. To further the glory of his reign and of his island, the benevolent one has decided to share his city-management title Tropico 5 with PS4 players. Kalypso Media has announced that Haemimont Studios is currently working on the series’ PS debut, in addition to versions for 360 and PC, which will introduce a new dynasty feature to the long-running series. Tropico 5 will also add new research trees, new technology, improved trading mechanics, exploration, and both co-op and competitive multiplayer for up to four players.

Kasedo Games to publish Hegemony Rome: The Rise of Caesar

Kalypso has announced the first title to be distributed under their digital-first label Kasedo Games (formerly Kobalt Games), Hegemony Rome: The Rise of Caesar. The upcoming strategy game from Longbow Digital Arts is a follow-up to Hegemony: Philip of Macedon, and will feature four campaigns modeled after Caesar’s famous campaign using his own commentary, Commentarii de Bello Gallico. There will be over 100 objectives for players to tackle throughout Gaul, Germania, and Britannia. A sandbox mode will be included as well, with over 20 playable factions. In addition to Philip of Macedon’s emphasis on maintaining efficient supply lines, Rome will add the ability to construct bridges and forts as well as appoint experienced officers as governors.

Renaissance-era Venice sits ripe for the ambitious merchant’s taking in the latest release from Kalypso, Rise of Venice. The economic and political sim allows players to take a fledgling trading company to towering, gilded heights as they expand their fleet, strike deals, and battle political rivals at home and pirates at sea. Wares will be traded across the Mediterranean, with ports allowing economic expansion to Alexandria, Constantinople, and Rome, against the AI or with up to three friends online.

Kalypso forms digital publisher Kobalt Games, reveals Blood Knights

Developer and publisher Kalypso Media has created a new digital-centric label, Kobalt Games. According to the announcement, “Kobalt Games will publish high-quality titles for PC, XBLA, PSN, Mac and Linux at a mid-price level, with a maximum price of £24.99, €29.99, $29.99, primarily via digital distribution channels.” Kobalt announced that its first game will be Blood Knights, a hack-n-slash action-RPG from Venetica and Jack Keane developer Deck 13 Interactive. Set in the Middle Ages, players will control two adventurers, a Templar vampire hunter and the vampire he is bound to, who must battle against armies of creatures to find the spell that will break their bond.

As a participant in the International Communist Propaganda competition, players will assist the president in completing the new Propaganda Competition mission by utilizing the new Propaganda Tower to suppress protests and convert citizens as well as by calling upon the PR Specialist trait to brainwash the masses. And of course, a new outfit is included, the Party Leader, to dazzle the competition.
