Shin Megami Tensei fans will finally—finally!—get the chance to play the original release with an official translation today. Correction: some fans. Shin Megami Tensei, the one that started it all, is now available on App Stores worldwide for iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod Touch (4th gen or later), and iPad; iOS 4.3 is required. The 40-plus-hour dungeon crawler features many of the elements that have made the series so popular, including the ability to negotiate and recruit demons, character choices that impact the ending, and contrasting alignment scales. As an added bonus, from today through March 31, the game will be reduced from its original price of $7.99 to $5.99.

iPad gamers to get Avadon 2: The Corruption on February 28

Avadon 2: The Corruption, the second release in Spiderweb Software’s latest role-playing series, will be available for iPad on February 28. The Corrution marks the fourth title ported to iOS by Spiderweb, and it’s a direct sequel to The Black Fortress, first released in 2011 for Windows. This follow-up adds a new character type, the Tinkermage class, and as with the first, there are multiple endings that vary depending on whether players choose to save Avadon or let it fall to ruin.

Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has launched for Android, Amazon Kindle HDX, and iOS. The mobile version sports re-mastered visuals with enhanced lighting, an expanded color palette, and touched-up character models. The Android version also supports USB and Bluetooth controllers, including the MOGA series, while iOS 7 users can take advantage of ‘Made for’ iOS controllers. All versions support Rockstar Games Social Club, which allows for stat tracking and multi-device, cross-platform saving via the cloud.

Mobile gamers will be able to hit the streets of San Andreas soon. Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be launching next month for select Android, Amazon Kindle, iOS, and Windows Mobile devices. The new version will feature dynamic shadows, an expanded color palette, a longer draw distance, and improved character and car models. In addition to the graphical upgrades, San Andreas will feature a reworked checkpoint system, controller support for iOS7, and new touch controls, including contextual control options to only display buttons when needed and three different control schemes.

PlayStation 4 day-one 300 MB patch, PlayStation App detailed

Sony has announced a day-one patch for PS4. The 300 MB update, detailed below, will allow access for a variety of features, including Remote Play for playing games on PS Vita, Second Screen for using smartphones and tablets as additional screens, a screen- and video-capturing utility, eight-user party chat, and the play-as-you-download feature. Surprisingly, the ability to play DVDs and Blu-ray video discs requires users to go online beforehand. Sony also announced that suspend/resume mode, among other features, will be unavailable at launch, either out the box or post patch.

Panzer Corps in development for iPad, sign-up begins for closed beta

Slitherine has announced that they will be publishing an iOS version of Lordz Games Studio’s turn-based wargame Panzer Corps Wehrmacht. The portable release, in development with Flashback Games Studio, will include the same content as the Windows PC original, including all 26 scenarios and 400-plus units, as well as all 10 downloadable Grand Campaigns for the Afrika Korps and Allied Corps expansions as in-app purchases. The studios are also seeking beta testers to assist with bug hunting and fine-tuning.

iOS received its Call of Duty debut today with the release of Call of Duty: Strike Team. The latest from developer The Blast Furnace is the first mobile entry for the series, and it’s also the first to prominently feature a focus on shifting perspectives. Players are tasked with commanding a squad of up to four Strike Team members, customizing their skills and gear, in hot spots around the globe. A third-person perspective allows commanders to get a better view of the battlefield, while a first-person view offers a ground-level view of the action. Strike Team includes a story-driven, single-player campaign, Survival Mode, and leaderboard support.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn goes live for PC and PS3

The Final Fantasy series is taking another stab at the MMO genre today with the release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Available for PC and PS3, A Realm Reborn allows players of both versions to venture together in a new storyline that takes place five years after the realm of Eorzea was laid waste by the Primal known as Bahamut. Players can now change their abilities, role, and skills using the Armory System, which allows for them to excel in multiple roles using only one character. Characters will switch to one of the 19 different classes by changing their equipped gear, and nine different jobs will unlock as they progress. Players can form Free Companies to go on story-driven quests, ride alongside their comrades into battle on a personal companion chocobo, and fight in open-world battles with other players.
