Layers of Fear gets Inheritance launch trailer, Masterpiece Edition

Layers of Fear: Inheritance’s launch trailer has gone live. The upcoming expansion will return players to the haunted mansion, but this time they will be exploring as the painter’s daughter. Her storyline will offer a new narrative experience, while retaining the original’s “psychedelic and symbolic atmosphere.” Her journey through the past will culminate in one of two endings, based on the player’s actions throughout the game. Launching at the same time is a bundle pack that combines the base game and add-on, Layers of Fear: Masterpiece Edition.

First screenshots released from revamped Pathologic

Ice-Pick Lodge has released the first batch of screens from their upcoming survival-themed horror-ish title Pathologic. A reimagining of a 2005 story-driven adventure, Pathologic tasks players with solving the mystery behind the raging Sand Plague within 12 days. Players take on the role of one of three specialists, and each day they will face new quests and uncover new story elements. Each character is said to offer a different experience, with a rational scientist, local shaman’s son, and a half-crazy amnesiac making up the trio. The game will feature elements from horror and survival titles, such as having to scavenge for resources, fight bandits, uncover strange rites, and stave off hunger and thirst.

Dead Rising 4 gameplay footage released from Comic-Con

More out of Comic-Con, and this time it’s some new gameplay from Dead Rising 4. After a brief series recap, members of the development team offer a quick overview with footage featuring plenty of selfies, weird weapons, and combo attacks. The footage was revealed alongside a hands-on demo for PC and Xbox One and a panel featuring several members of the team. No word if the panel will be posted.

Resident Evil 7 biohazard demo, Beginning Hour, is a hit on PSN

Resident Evil 7 is off to a strong start. According to Capcom, the teaser demo, Beginning Hour, has hit a milestone as “the most downloaded single-player demo on PS4” after seven days online. Even more impressive is that access is limited due to being restricted to PS Plus subscribers, but even then, it’s had over 2 million downloads globally.

Supernatural adventure title Kholat announced for PS4

Imgn.pro’s horror-themed adventure title Kholat will be launching on PSN for PS4 on March 8. The game is inspired by the Dyatlov Pass Incident, in which nine hikers disappeared on a trip through the Ural Mountains in 1959. Players go back to the trail in order to retrace the group’s route in order to learn what happened to them, which happens to involve a lot of spooky stuff. To give console gamers a better idea of just what they have in store, a trailer was released, and has been posted below. Kholat was released for PC last June.

Layers of Fear launching in full next month, announced for PS4

Bloober Team’s horror-tinged adventure title Layers of Fear will be exiting Early Access and launching in full for PC next month. A new trailer was also released to coincide with the reveal that the game will also be available for PS4. To ensure they properly reach this expanded audience Bloober has teamed up with Aspyr Media for marketing and distribution.

Layers of Fear now available for Xbox One via Game Preview

Layers of Fear has joined Xbox One’s Game Preview program. Currently available for PC through Steam Early Access, the $12.99 download is said to be around 80% complete with two to three hours of finalized gameplay. The remaining 20% of development consists of fixing bugs and adding content. Described as a “psychedelic adventure horror game,” Layers of Fear puts players in the shoes of a painter who is going insane as he attempts to create a masterpiece inside of his constantly changing home.

Sci-fi horror adventure Soma now available for PC, PS4

Amnesia developer Frictional Games’ latest sci-fi, horror-tinged adventure, Soma, is now available for PC and PS4. As a newcomer to the isolated underwater facility Pathos-II, players must investigate what’s caused the carnage they find as they explore bloody hallways and encounter sentient machines. The launch trailer offers a glimpse at what seems like a System Shock-esque nightmare, and what creative director Thomas Grip hopes proves to be a “creepy and provocative experience” for players.

Frictional Games’ horror, sci-fi title Soma gets new trailer, release date

Frictional Games, creators of Amnesia and Penumbra, have revealed the release date and a new trailer for their next title, Soma. Horror and sci-fi fans will be able to investigate why personnel have gone missing and what’s causing the service bots to act weird on Pathos-2 this summer, on September 22.

Resident Evil HD Remaster sells over a million units worldwide

Capcom has announced that the latest Resident Evil re-release, a download-only title in North America, has sold over a million units worldwide. The HD Remaster had previously set a day-one record for the fastest-selling digital release on PSN across Europe and North America. This latest version features updated graphics, sound, and controls, along with a new Very Easy Mode.
