Halo 5: Guardians will be receiving free additional content next Wednesday in a new update, Warzone Firefight. The eighth expansion will add the new game mode, and update namesake, Warzone Firefight. After some time in beta, the final version of the mode will have a gradually increasing difficulty level, along with new bosses and REQs. The REQs will offer new vehicles, armors, and weapons (UNSC VTOL, AV-49 Wasp, etc.). These will be accessible in Forge as well, which is also getting a new canvas, the ocean-themed Tidal. Multiplayer will be expanded with three new maps: Attack on Sanctum, Prospect, and Molten. The campaign isn’t being left out, either, as it will get Score Attack. As in previous titles, Score Attack allows players to compete with one another for the highest score, solo or in co-op, with points determined by how stylishly enemies are defeated. 343 is planning on showing everyone the ropes with a Firefight pre-release livestream at the official Twitch channel on June 28, 4 p.m. (CST).
Microsoft had plenty to show at their conference, including gameplay reveals of Rare’s Pirate-themed multiplayer-entric Sea of Thieves and the co-op-friendly Forza Horizon 3. Other trailers posted below include announcement videos for Dead Rising 4, State of Decay 2, and We Happy Few, plus more from Scalebound, ReCore, and others. Phantom Dust is still a go, too (woo!). Play Anywhere was prominent, which further integrates Xbox One and Windows 10 by offering cross-buy support and same-day release for MS-published titles. The biggest reveals were the Xbox One S and Project Scorpio. The Xbox One S will be 40 percent smaller, come in white, have an internal power supply, support 4K Ultra HD for Blu-rays and streaming content, support High Dynamic Range (HDR) for games, and come with an updated controller. Kinect adapters will be required, but they will be free from Microsoft. The systems will roll out August 2016 for $299 (500 GB), $349 (1 TB), and $399 (limited launch edition 2 TB). Project Scorpio will be arriving holiday 2017, and is being described as “the most powerful console ever created” with support for 4K gaming and VR thanks to its “6 teraflops of GPU.” All Xbox One games will work on all Xbox One systems.
343 Industries will be releasing Halo’s Forge map-making, game-modifying tool suite for Windows 10. The interface is also being optimized for mouse support to allow for quicker navigation. Upcoming updates are set to add new environments, props, palettes, and enhanced file-sharing capabilities.
343 Industries has released the final free content update for Halo 5: Guardians, Memories of Reach. The update adds the Arena map Stasis, Noble Team-inspired armor sets, new weapons (Brute Plasma Rifle, Jorge’s Chaingun), and the Infection game mode. As with the previous updates, there are also a number of extra assassinations, emblems, and weapon skins. Several fixes and tweaks are also included, such as the ability to modify matchmaking search preferences and an updated Post Game Carnage Report with medals and more stats. As a bonus, anyone who launches the game after Memories of Reach goes live will receive Memories of Reach Update Pack, a set that comes bundled with single-use REQs.
