343 Industries has announced that Halo: The Master Chief Collection has gone gold. The Xbox One set will also be receiving a wider release with most territories now scheduled to get the game on the earlier release date, November 11. The countries not included in the bump are Belgium (November 12), Japan (November 13), and France (November 14). The game will also go live for pre-order and pre-download later today, which will allow gamers to pre-load the game to have it ready to play the second it goes live. Those going the digital route should take advantage of that option, as there will be a lot to download: 45 GB for the game and another 20 GB for a launch content patch, which will include “some features and multiplayer content.” The campaign will be playable as content is installing.

The last of the six classic multiplayer maps being added to Halo: The Master Chief Collection has been announced, Warlord. The map will included as part of Halo 2: Anniversary, but it originated in Halo as Wizard, which was followed by two further revisions, the first as Warlock in Halo 2 and the second as Magus in Halo: Reach. This updated version will feature additional skill jumps, more cover, and a new weapon located in the center. Warlord joins Ascension, Coagulation, Lockout, Sanctuary, and Zanzibar.

Lockout being reimagined for Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Microsoft has announced that Lockout will join Halo 2 multiplayer maps Ascension, Coagulation, Sanctuary, and Zanzibar in being reimagined for the upcoming compilation Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Max Hoberman, president of Certain Affinity and one of Halo 2’s lead designers, described some of the changes to the three-level map: “most prominent among these are a bit of cover added to the ‘Elbow,’ the long walkway connecting the grav lift to the sniper tower, and a dynamic element that should help counter an entrenched group of enemies.” Lockout will also be one of the levels playable at the Xbox Booth (#412, #422, #432) at PAX Prime. 343 Industries will be hosting a number of events at PAX, including a signing, a panel, and a weekend-long tournament, details of which can be found below. Halo 5: Guardians slated to hit Xbox One in 2015

343 Industries has announced that they are currently developing the fifth entry in the main Halo line, Guardians. Currently scheduled to ship in fall 2015, 343 explained that the extended development cycle is because a “game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial.” The studio also noted that Guardians will be larger than Halo 4, in terms of “content and scope” and tech, namely “a brand new and more powerful engine.”

Halo: Spartan Assault on sale for Windows 8, headed to Steam

The top-down shooter Halo: Spartan Assault will be available on Steam starting on April 4. Set between Halo 3 and 4, Spartan Assault puts players in the role of two soldiers as they battle a besieging Covenant force. The $4.99 shooter will be on sale from April 3-9 for $1.99 for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. According to the Steam listing, the new version will also be compatible with Windows 7 and Vista.

Halo: Spartan Assault deploying tomorrow on Live for 360

Microsoft announced that they will be releasing Halo: Spartan Assault for 360 tomorrow. Gamers who purchased the Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8 version before December 15 will be able to download the game for $4.99, while new players will be able to purchase the title for $14.99. The 360 version will feature over 30 missions, including the Operation Hydra expansion, and online co-op play (not supported with Xbox One multiplayer). Spartan Assault, set between Halo 3 and 4, is a top-down shooter that tasks players with battling the Covenant as part of the newly formed Spartan Ops program.

Forge Island launches for Halo 4, Great Anvils added to Forge mode

The download features three modifiable islands, known collectively as the Great Anvils, as well as new building materials for the map-creation mode. Halo 4 – Majestic Map Pack detailed, to be released next week

New details have been announced about the second of three upcoming map packs for Halo 4, the Majestic Map Pack. The Certain Affinity- and 343 Industries-developed entry in the War Games Map Pack series will launch next Monday, February 25, with three small- to medium-sized maps, detailed below, as well as two Majestic DLC playlists and a new free-for-all mode, Infinity Rumble.

Halo 4 to begin last half of Spartan Ops: Season One this month

Halo 4’s Spartan Ops: Season One will continue shortly with a recently announced five-week run of content. The new drops will launch between January 21 through February 24, adding more episodic adventures for players to see the crew of the UNSC Infinity through. Episodes 6-10 will feature Fireteam Crimson searching for Spartan Thorne on planet Requiem, squaring off against Jul ‘Mdama and his Covenant cult, and beyond. According to the press release, players can look forward to vehicular and on-foot combat as well as gunbattles with Promethean and Covenant forces.
