Halo 5: Guardians gets GameStop-exclusive pre-order armor set

Microsoft has teamed up with GameStop to bring exclusive armor DLC to Halo 5: Guardians. All pre-orders will receive a download code to receive the Spartan Locke multiplayer armor set. The outfit comes with Hunter-Class Armor and a Hunter-Class Helmet, each of which augments the player’s capabilities by offering additional power and enhanced “situational and threat awareness.” A new trailer gives a glimpse of the kit in action.

A new Halo twin-stick shooter has gone live for mobile devices and PC, Halo: Spartan Strike. The $5.99 download-only release is set in New Mombasa during the events of Halo 2. Players take on the role of a Spartan in an ONI simulation, guiding UNSC troops through 30 missions set throughout cities and jungles. Throughout the missions, soldiers gain access to new abilities, weapons, and vehicles. Windows 8 versions also include support for weekly challenges, leaderboards, and Achievements with accompanying emblems, avatars, and nameplates.

Halo 5: Guardians live-action trailers All Hail and The Cost released

Microsoft has released both of the live-action trailers for Halo 5: Guardians that were aired during last night’s finale of The Walking Dead. Each video shows a situation from a different perspective, with UNSC’s Spartan Locke doubting Master Chief’s legacy as he stands victorious and the Chief giving Locke a lesson in heroism in The Cost. Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta begins, limited editions detailed

343 Industries has announced the beginning of the Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta. The beta pits two four-player teams against one another in arena-based combat across seven maps and three game types. Access to the beta is restricted to owners of The Master Chief Collection, and will end on January 19. For those who do participate, any content unlocked for Nightfall and The Master Chief Collection will be carried over into the retail version of Guardians. Coinciding with the beta’s launch is the reveal of three premium editions that have gone up for pre-order: Standard Edition ($59.99), Limited Edition ($99.99), and Limited Collector’s Edition ($249.99). 343 Industries has rolled out the first in a new behind-the-scenes series detailing their work on the multiplayer beta of Halo 5: Guardians. The beta is scheduled to launch this month for owners of Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and the new six-part series, The Sprint – Making Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta, will follow the developers and development stages as the beta takes shape. The first episode, titled Balance, premiers today at 6 p.m. (CST) on the Halo Channel, Windows 8.1, and Xbox One. A new episode will air each day until the beta launches on December 29. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is now available for Xbox One. The launch initially kicked off with over 4,000 midnight release events and additional livestreamed festivities, but those who decided to stay in can now grab a copy. The set includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition, an updated Halo 2 with cutscenes by Blur Studios, Halo 3, Halo 4, access to the Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer beta, and the live-action series Halo: Nightfall from Ridley Scott. So pretty much everything but ODST and Wars. Pictures from the livestreamed launch event HaloFest were also released, and those who missed it can watch it on demand through the official site.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection launch events announced, HaloFest

Microsoft has detailed HaloFest, a series of events being hosted by 343 Industries in celebration of the impending release of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The studio plans on hosting broadcasts of interviews, new gameplay footage from the campaign, and sneak peeks of both the multiplayer beta as well as the first episode of Halo: Nightfall. The bulk of the festivities will take place on November 10 at the Avalon Theatre in Los Angeles, but a tournament will kick things off on November 8-9 and all events will be viewable via streams on Twitch, Xbox.com, and Xbox Live. The schedule is available below, and event details can be found on the official Facebook page. To get fans ready, 343 has released a new trailer debuting the live-action series Halo: Nightfall.

343 Industries has announced that Halo: The Master Chief Collection has gone gold. The Xbox One set will also be receiving a wider release with most territories now scheduled to get the game on the earlier release date, November 11. The countries not included in the bump are Belgium (November 12), Japan (November 13), and France (November 14). The game will also go live for pre-order and pre-download later today, which will allow gamers to pre-load the game to have it ready to play the second it goes live. Those going the digital route should take advantage of that option, as there will be a lot to download: 45 GB for the game and another 20 GB for a launch content patch, which will include “some features and multiplayer content.” The campaign will be playable as content is installing.
