Halo 5 – Ghosts of Meridian update to add new weapons, maps

343 Industries has detailed their next free update for Halo 5, Ghosts of Meridian. Slated to go live next week, the new drop will add customization items, maps, vehicles, and weapons. The maps will add one to Warzone (Skirmish at Darkstar) and another to Arena (Tyrant). One of the new weapons is a Legendary gravity hammer dubbed Tartarus’ Gavel, which causes kinetic explosions as well as increases speed, jump height, and shield strength. 343 will be demonstrating the new content on Tuesday, April 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (CST) on their Twitch channel and on Halo Channel.

Halo World Championship 2016 schedule, Spartan’s Armory REQ out

Microsoft has released details on how Halo fans can check out the Halo World Championship 2016. The 16-team event has a prize pool worth $2.5 million and is set to kick off next week in Hollywood, CA, from Friday, March 18 to Sunday, March 20. The playoffs will begin at 11 a.m. (CST) on Friday and Saturday, followed by the Finals at 6 p.m. (CST) on Sunday, and be streamed at Twitch.tv/Halo and through the Twitch App on Xbox One. The finals can also be watched on the Xbox Live Events Interactive app, which is available through the Xbox Store. Everyone who watches the final will receive a free HaloWC Gamerpic and REQ Pack, which will include the rare Challenger armor set. The 14-skin Spartan’s Armory REQ is also live from now until midnight March 20 for 80,000 RP/$9.99. The full schedule, along with REQ info, can be found below.

Halo 5: Guardians – Hammer Storm update detailed, released

The free February Content Update for Halo 5: Guardians, Hammer Storm, has launched on Live. The automatic download adds new game modes, weapons, REQ items, and a map. The new modes include Assault, Fiesta, and Grifball, with Fiesta having a roulette-style weapon system and Grifbal mixing hammers and swords for a sci-fi take on sports. The map, Torque, is described as a large symmetrical map that is designed for Assault and Capture the Flag. Expanding the arsenal is the Gravity Hammer as well as the return of the Halo: CE Pistol. Added REQs include weapon skins, emblems, assassinations, visors, and armors. The new ball mechanic in Grifball has also been added to Forge.

MS announces top 16 teams heading to Halo World Championship

Microsoft has released the names of the final 16 teams in the Halo 5: Guardians’ Halo World Championship (HaloWC). The 16 were able to make their way through the North American Regionals, and now they get the chance to take home the $1 million prize pool. The Grand Finals are set to take place from March 18 through March 20 in Hollywood, CA, with the venue set to be announced on March 4. Additional details will be revealed at Halo.gg. Rocket League launches for Xbox One with Halo, Gears goodies

Psyonix’s popular driving-soccer hybrid Rocket League has launched for Xbox One. The $19.99 action-heavy sports title is being released through ID@Xbox and was co-developed by Panic Button Games. The new version features several extras, including two system-exclusive battle-cars—the Halo ‘HogSticker’ and the Gears of War ‘Armadillo’—and Garage items based on Halo, Gears of War, and Sunset Overdrive. Infinity’s Armory adds new maps (Riptide for Arena, Urban for Warzone Assault), assassinations, skins, weapons, including carbine variations and the Halo 2 Battle Rifle, and the Achilles armor set. 343 Industries is prepping to release their third content update for Halo 5: Guardians, Infinity’s Armory. The download will include a new Arena map, the debris-filled Riptide; a new Warzone Assault Map, Urban; and the Halo 2 Battle Rifle as a Mythic REQ in Warzone and in Forge. Those are in addition to several other REQs, including rare variants of the carbine, new assassinations, and the Achilles armor set. Infinity’s Armory will be free, as with Cartographer’s Gift and Battle of Shadow and Light, and download automatically next week.

Activision Blizzard acquires Major League Gaming

Activision Blizzard is expanding their eSport footprint with the acquisition of Major League Gaming. MLG is over 12 years old with over nine million registered users, and hosts more than 180 players throughout its operated events. The league’s live-streaming capabilities will be used to augment Activision Blizzard’s Media Networks division. According to the announcement, MLG will still run MLG.tv, MLG Pro Circuit, and GameBattles, as well as continue working with its current partners and other publishers.

343 Industries is rolling out the second free update for Halo 5: Guardians this week, Cartographer’s Gift. Following up Battle of Shadow and Light, the upcoming add-on will feature Forge Mode, new weapon (M41 “SPNKr” Rocket Launcher) and armor set (Mark IV [Gen 1]) REQs, and four new maps. The maps are spread across several modes: The Battle of Noctus for Warzone, Overgrowth for Arena, and the other two, Antifreeze and Entombed, for Big Team Battle. Cartographer’s Gift will download automatically when it goes live in a few days.

Halo 5: Guardians’ first free content update, Battle of Shadow and Light, is now available for download. The update adds 48 new REQs that feature a new assassin animation, skins, weapons, vehicles, and armor sets (Shinobi and Tracer). The 8v8 mode Big Team Battle has also been added along with four new Big Team Battle maps: Basin, Deadlock, Guillotine, and Recurve. 343 Industries has noted that, while the Big Team Battle playlist is good to go, the new REQs could take up to 24 hours to work their way into the system. The studio also released additional notes about the update on Halo Waypoint.
