Everspace enters GOG’s Games in Development, Steam Early Access

Rockfish’s roguelike spaceship shooter Everspace has been released on GOG’s Games in Development and Steam Early Access. The Kickstarter-backed title will be available through Game Preview on Xbox One and Windows 10 by the end of the month. Several items were added for today’s release, including a new boss fight, planet type, and voiced dialog, along with extra Outlaw stations and gameplay tweaks. Regular updates are planned to add two extra player ships, the Colonial Scout, equipped with a cloak and long-range weapons, and the Colonial Gunship, a slow but strong vessel with an upgradeable top turret. The PC version has already gone through alpha and beta phases, with the help of over 10,000 backers, on Linux, Mac, and Windows 7/10.

Everspace to enter early access for PC, Xbox One on September 14

Rockfish Games is planning on releasing their roguelike space-based shooter Everspace on Steam Early Access, GOG’s Games in Development, and Preview Program for Xbox One and PC on September 14. The Kickstarter-backed titled raised over $750,000, and will be the first title on Xbox Preview Program on Windows 10, supporting both cross-save and cross-buy. The early version will feature six sectors, with a final sector, two additional unique player ships, and different starting gear slated to be added later this year. We Happy Few’s world of forced euphoria made waves at this year’s E3, and today, players are getting a chance to try the game for themselves. The city of Wellington Wells is now accessible through Steam Early Access, GOG.com’s Games in Development, and Xbox Game Preview. Note that this is an early build and that the game is still in development. Players can currently explore the city while trying out some of the mechanics, including combat, crafting, and Joy intake. Areas will be added and storylines introduced in the coming months. A new gameplay trailer was also released, building on the teaser shown at E3.

GOG kicks off its 2016 Summer Sale with events, free games, more

GOG.com has officially begun its 2016 Summer Sale. Slated to run for two weeks, the promo will feature over 1,000 deals along with activities and an XP system that awards points for use towards free games. New deals will be added every 24 hours. To kick things off, the service is giving away a free copy of System Shock 2 through their GOG Galaxy client for the first 48 hours. The recently updated Homeworld Remastered Collection is also on sale for 50% off. For those wanting to see some of the games in action, GOG staff will be streaming Stardew Valley and Grim Fandango Remastered tomorrow on their Twitch channel. As a bonus, anyone who tunes in will receive an XP boost.

Homeworld: Remastered Collection updated, added to GOG

Homeworld: Remastered Collection has been given an overhaul in a new update, and has been added to GOG.com. Gearbox Software has released a new patch for the space-based real-time strategy series that includes bug fixes for single and multiplayer, more reactive and flexible formations, adjusted ballistic flight behavior so ships can overshoot and hit friendly units, targeting tweaks to make stationary units more vulnerable, and performance improvements. Modding has also been made easier with new controls and features. For those who use GOG Galaxy, the client supports achievements and multiplayer.

GOG launches GOG Connect to link supported Steam titles

GOG has introduced GOG Connect, a new feature to link Steam versions of certain titles to their service. The feature adds DRM-free versions of the games to the user’s library, along with digital extras, and the option to use GOG Galaxy or a standalone installer. The release notes that “these are limited-time opportunities from participating developers and publishers, with more to come.” Some of those studios include Deep Silver, TaleWorlds, and Harebrained Schemes. To kick things off, select supported titles, including System Shock 2 and The Witness, are available for up to 85% off until June 6. Check out a list of some of the supported titles below.

Victor Vran leaves Early Access, now officially available for PC

Demon hunter Victor Vran has set off from Early Access to track down even fiercer monsters in the full release of, er, Victor Vran. The action-heavy role-playing game from Haemimont Games features a gear-based progression system, over 400 challenges, dynamic difficulty, a campaigned estimated to last 20 hours, and four-player online co-op. Players can also expect two-player local co-op and three DLC packs in the coming months. The free packs are currently in development and will add a new weapon type that expands spellcaster abilities (The Tome of Souls), a new character-build-expanding outfit (The Highlander Outfit), and a map with a random layout and daily challenges (The Cauldron of Chaos).

The Old Gods have returned! GOG.com has added two Lovecraftian adventure titles from Infogrames to their library, Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet and Call of Cthulhu: Prisoner of Ice. Shadow of the Comet, available for Linux and Windows, follows a young British photographer during their attempt to snap a photo of a strange comet passing over Illsmouth, New England. The same comet that sent a previous photographer to an asylum. The spiritual successor, Prisoner of Ice, available for Linux, Mac, and Windows, is set aboard a military submarine that’s recently become the home for an ancient horror.

GOG.com kicks off 2015 DRM-Free Summer Sale

GOG.com is jumping the gun on summer by launching their 2015 DRM-Free Summer Sale today. The event will include free games, daily bundles, giveaways, and themed discounts. This year, the service will be offering rewards for games purchased, and buyers have the chance to score three free games. Everyone who spends at least $1 will receive a free copy of SimCity 2000, while $20 nets a free copy of Stalker: Clear Sky and $50 a free copy of Xenonauts. The offer runs for the duration of the sale, which is set to end on June 21. New deals will appear every 12 hours, which will add up to over 700 games. Today’s highlighted deals are bundle discounts for LucasArts adventure titles, D&D enhanced editions, Heroes of Might and Magic series, and the first two Stalker releases.

Telltale titles being added to GOG, Game of Thrones now available

GOG.com has inked a deal with Telltale to bring several of their titles to the service, starting with Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series. To celebrate, Game of Thrones is currently on sale for 40% off, which will soon be followed by Tales from the Borderlands, The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series, and The Wolf Among Us. As with other titles on GOG.com, all of the games will be DRM-free, and all of Telltale’s will support the new (and optional) Galaxy platform, which adds achievements, adding one-click installation, auto-updating, and game time tracking.
