Purveyor of yesteryear GOG.com has begun a new promo that offers gamers a chance to vote on which titles they want to save their cash on, the Battle of the Games. Two trios will be posted, and the set with the most votes will be discounted by 75% for 24 hours and the other by 60%. New games will be posted each day at 5:00 a.m. CST until April 21. To kick things off, The Witcher and The Witcher 2 are 80% off, Heroes of Might and Magic I, II, and III are each 75% off, and Blackguards Special Edition is 50% off.

Age of Wonders III sets out on campaign, now on GOG and Steam

The Age of Wonders series has been dormant for over a decade, but it returns today with the release of Age of Wonders 3 on GOG and Steam. The Triumph Studios-developed turn-based strategy title features online play with versus modes and scenarios, two playable factions, new leader classes (e.g., warlord, rogue, theocrat), a new tactical combat system, and an increased focus on unit specialization. Leaders will have to undertake quests, set up economies, negotiate with neighboring factions, and of course, crush enemy armies.

Blackguards, adventure-gaming maven Daedalic’s foray into the role-playing world, is now available on GOG and Steam for Mac and Windows PC. A new entry in The Dark Eye universe, Blackguards has players take on the role of a convicted murderer and lead a group of criminals and outcasts against a new sinister power that threatens the land. Players must not only fight against these forces of evil but also wild beasts and monsters as well as the law—they are criminals, after all. The action-heavy title features over 180 battle maps and a turn-based combat system.

Wasteland 1 – The Original Classic now available on GOG, Steam

inXile has brought back Wasteland. Not the successful Kickstarter-funded sequel but the 1988 original, courtesy of digital distribution. Released last Friday as a backer reward for its Kickstarter campaign, Wasteland 1 – The Original Classic is now available for all via GOG.com and Steam. The $5.99 download takes players back to 2087, 89 years after a nuclear war has left Earth irradiated and nearly uninhabitable. As the leader of a band of Rangers, players will take to the wilds in order to battle bandits and mutated animals as they track down a new, even more dangerous threat. This latest version has been updated to run on modern systems and includes an expanded save function, new voice-over work, support for higher resolutions (with a choice of classic or smooth visuals), tracks from Wasteland 2, and text from the original pack-in book and manual.

The Bitmap Brothers’ classic top-down shooter The Chaos Engine returns today with a new version for Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. The latest incarnation is an updated version of the 1993 Amiga original and features four worlds, a roster of six mercenaries, a single-player campaign, online and local co-op modes, Enhanced and Classic modes, and Steam Achievements. This release was developed by Mastertronic and Abstraction Games, the studio behind the PS3 and PS Vita ports of Hotline Miami, along with one of the founding members of The Bitmap Brothers, Mike Montgomery.

Mastertronic and Abstraction Games, the studio behind the Hotline Miami PS3 and PS Vita ports, worked in consultation with one of the founding members of The Bitmap Brothers, Mike Montgomery, to rebuild the game from the ground up. The upcoming Unreal Engine 3-powered remake of Rise of the Triad from Interceptor Entertainment has been officially dated for July 31. Publisher Apogee Software also announced a new pre-order bonus for the $14.99 release, with early buyers receiving a four-game compilation dubbed the Apogee Throwback Pack for free. The set, normally $9.99, includes Rise of the Triad: Dark War, Extreme Rise of the Triad, Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, and Blake Stone: Planet Strike. To see that the 17-day sale gets off to a proper start, the service is offering a DRM-free version of Torchlight for free for 48 hours. All told, over 500 games are on sale, with 150-plus up to 85% off during the daily deals. The inaugural daily deal is a D&D bundle that includes such classics as Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 and Planescape: Torment, as well as 90% off Alan Wake and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare.
